This chapter specifically focuses on three main parts of fractions. The first part consists of recognizing that there are multiple ways to divide objects into fractional pieces. The Second fragment is the importance of equality in the subdivision, and third the role of the third when describing fractional parts. The book states that students should get to know the difference between shapes that are equally parted into halves and thirds, and shapes that are clearly not parted right. I struggled with this at this age because I failed to comprehend how the smaller piece of the shape could possibly be part of the bigger shape. A lot of this is the consept that the shape is more than just what it appears right at that time. The last main topic the chapter touches on is noticing how fractions come in pairs. This means that the child must see that even though they may be looking at a shape that is showing one fourth, other parts of the fraction are represented as well such as, one third and one half. An easy way for teachers to show this is by shading parts of the shape with different colored pencils to show which fractions are represented. This makes it easier for the student to visually see the partitioning. Chapter 2 focused on what students should know by the end of second grade using fractions. Students should know many ways to divide objects into different fractions, the importance of equality of partitioning, and lastly the role of the whole in describing fractional
