...Undergraduate business majors are a dime a dozen on many college campuses. But according to some, they may be worth even less. Now faculty members, school administrators and corporate recruiters are questioning the value of a business degree at the undergraduate level. The biggest complaint: The undergraduate degrees focus too much on the nuts and bolts of finance and accounting and do not develop enough critical thinking and problem-solving skills through long essays, in-class debates and other hallmarks of liberal-arts courses. Companies say they need flexible thinkers with innovative ideas and a broad knowledge base derived from exposure to multiple disciplines. And while most recruiters do not outright avoid business majors, companies in consulting, technology and even finance say they are looking for candidates with a broader academic background. Firms are looking for talent. They're not looking for content knowledge. Students are motivated only by grades and instructors by evaluations. But Dr. Mason believes it offers a fair approximation of reality. In a 2003 paper in the Economics of Education Review, he buttressed that model with a national survey of 259 business professors who had been teaching for at least 10 years. On average, respondents said they had reduced the math and analytic-thinking requirements in their courses. In exchange, they had increased the number of requirements related to computer skills and group presentations. It has become difficult to give...

...1. I think my graduate experience will differ from my undergraduate experience in that as a graduate student I will apply everything that I learned in undergraduate school focusing more on detailed analytical research, more reading, and writing which will help me to develop more social and people skills on the career path I have chosen. Most graduate programs are at least eighteen months and require you to take only one class per session. It also requires you to do either a thesis or non-thesis exit exam. However, as an undergraduate student the main focus was on the basic fundamentals of general knowledge. It required you to be in college for at least four years to obtain a degree and most semesters as a full-time student you took at least twelve hours. I know as a graduate student I will have to be more dedicated, committed, devoted, and have better time management skills, and have a schedule planned. As a graduate student I am more mature and have gain more wisdom than when I was in undergraduate school. 2. I would describe a graduate learning community where you will be able to sustain until the completion of the program because you will have your instructors, other students, your academic and financial advisors going with you to make sure that you stay on the right track to completing the task and goal that is set before you. Because you will be held at a higher level of integrity, accountability, responsibility of life and work you must have a scheduled planned...

...| Undergraduate Program determines whether we pursue Post-Graduate Degree | Prepared for Dr. A. F. M. Ataur Rahman (ECO455.1) | Gazi Musayab Raffan ( 0910486520)&Mohsin Ul Amin Khan (0910894520) | Abstract The purpose of this research was to find out whether undergraduate performance and program of students reflect the motivation for continuing further education into Post-Graduate level. The research is based on questionnaire survey of fifty Undergraduate students from five different Universities in Dhaka. The questionnaire had 13 questions that were used to find out about the programs and CGPA of the participants as well as their plans for opting for Master’s level education. Since the survey was based on students currently pursuing their Bachelor’s we tried to know as much as possible about their plans for further education. In this regard we have assumed that the students who have planned out their further education in details have greater possibility of actually enrolling for Master’s level education. So we set the questions in such a way so as to reflect well the mental preparation as well other factors for planning ahead. Upon analyzing the data a correlation between the hypothesized constructs have been found in general. Though some questions had given us mixed results, taken as a whole the research does find a relationship between undergraduate performance and program and the continuation of further education. Acknowledgements Firstly we would like...

...Abstract: A repository is a place where data are stored, eprints are located, multiple databases and files are located for distribution over a network. Final year project is one of the requirements for graduation for all undergraduate students. The existing method of keeping students’ final year project reports is manual. The hardcopy bound reports are stored on physically on shelves. This has some limitations which include sifting through the hardcopies to get relevant information and manually reading through the copies. The processes involved in completing these projects prove to be a tough mission. This paper attempts to develop a web-based repository for the use of undergraduate students embarking on final year projects. It also involves the design of a web forum to enhance collaborative students’ interaction. This is achieved by designing the system using Unified Modeling Language. The databases for both the repository and the web forum were created using MySql as the backend and Dreamweaver as the front-end. The system is a very good resource for getting information about the past undergraduate projects carried out by graduate students. Keywords: Repository, web forum, undergraduate students, final year projects, higher educational institutions 1. Introduction A repository can be defined as a central place where data is stored and maintained. It is a storage area that allows multi-user access to stored resources, when shared. Data in a repository...

...gvjriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Aristotle observed over two millennia ago the differences he saw in cultures of people residing in warm climates, who he described as intelligent but not very heroic, as opposed to inhabitants of cold climates, who he in turn called brave but not so intelligent. Since then much more detailed analysis by various researchers has led to the formation of many different theories and models regarding the differences in culture. These differences can be noticed (or not) in national cultures, family cultures, company cultures, and functional cultures (i.e. sales versus marketing). In an ever-increasing global environment these differences are more and more becoming daily issues that need to be addressed in order for multinational organizations to carry on with their operations. IKEA is a typical example of a growing multinational which has expanded their operations into different national markets. They sell furniture along with part of their culture; their blue and yellow image is becoming recognizable throughout the world. IKEA pays close attention to the cultures of the countries that they have expanded into, especially when considering their employees in that foreign market. It is their intention to bring their values with them wherever they open up stores and this calls for a fundamental understanding of the different cross-cultural theories that have been developed by kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk...

...Undergraduate studies lead to associate's and bachelor's degrees and that graduate programs lead to master's and doctoral degrees. I believe that the undergraduate learning experience is a period where there is the introduction to new information. This information is enclosed in subject area of concentration that is delivered by your instructor. My year of undergraduate program is more general in nature. They include general education courses in a wide variety of subjects that are not part of graduate education. Graduate programs are highly specialized and much more advanced than undergraduate programs. Graduate educational experience teaches you the information and skills that you need to be a professional. However, being a professional requires more than coursework and experiences. In other words, you will learn the norms and values of your field. You will learn to think like a professional in your field, whether a scientist, historian, educator, philosopher or practitioner. I would describe a graduate learning community as a group of students and staff that share the same interests in objectives based on an area of study; that allow these people to learn, grow and develop together. Learning Communities bring people together for shared learning, discovery, and the generation of knowledge. Within a learning community , all participants take responsibility for achieving the learning goals. Importantly, learning communities are the process by which individuals come together...

...future growth of our small country, is a remarkable one. I am writing to you to let you know that I am one of those Marshallese out there who still has a burning desire after graduating four-year college to continue on and earn a Master degree in Business Administration. I have been accepted to Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry University. I am confident that I will make it, but I will need the full financial support of your board of directors if I am going to get an MBA. Like Benjamin Franklin once said ‘An Investment in knowledge pays the best interest’. I can guarantee the Marshall Islands board of directors that once I get my MBA I will be back and be an asset to our country. I have done it before with my undergraduate degree and you can bid I will do it again. Getting an MBA is not going to be easy, but I will give it all I have to push through the end. I am convinced the bright future of our young nation is in the hand of our educated young leaders and scholars. When I first wrote to the Marshall Islands Scholarship board of directors...

...rational plan and execute the plan. Obtaining an MBA will present new opportunities for me to figure out where I want to work and study. My success in life will be enhanced when I complete an MBA and pursue a new professional career path. As an undergraduate student, I majored in biochemistry. I believed having a scientific background would give me the skill set to lead me wherever I wanted to go in life. However, by the time I entered my junior year I was in serious doubt regarding my degree decision and my passion for biochemistry. After discussing my options with my parents, we came to an agreement that I would finish my degree because it would give me a solid foundation with a technical education. The biochemistry curriculum exposes participants to high levels of proficiency in math, logic, and problem solving. Additionally, the curriculum promotes the development to work independently and think creatively about potential solutions. I finished my degree but continued to feel very sceptical about pursuing higher education because I wanted to make sure I chose a field of study where I would enjoy and be self-motivated to want even more for myself. I also realized I wanted to continue using my technical background I received with my undergraduate degree but did not want to purse a higher education solely in biochemistry. The following two years after graduation I had a unique mix of work experience which exposed me to a broad range of businesses. I...

...I never truly grasp the concept of “benignancy” until I met my host family on the edge of Sioux Falls, a place where I would call “home” since then. From them I have learned that benignancy is the high erect of humanity; it is compassion, selflessness, and hope. My host parents, Peter and Susan, are both pure and pious Catholics. Together with their three sons, three international boarding students including me made up this family of benignancy. From them, I learned the highest level of benignancy is compassion. One of my daily routine is to embrace the vivacious welcome from some of the thirty plus homeless dogs that Susan took under her wings. Susan demonstrated for me that benignancy is unconditional, regardless how dirty looking, disabled, or sick the homeless dogs are, and Susan displayed the same level of affection. Whenever any of them get sick or injured, Susan takes them to the veterinary immediately no matter how late it is. When I first arrived, I asked Susan to why not let the community to take in some of the stray dogs. She refused and claimed “They need family”. It is true, we all need family. Now as I cleaned the yard and washed the dogs habitually with my host brothers and roommates, I find joy in offering my helping hands to this compassionate lady. Benignancy is about selflessly helping others without asking for any payback. I’m a lucky recipient of this lesson through volunteering work. I had been a volunteer in my community center in China before I went...

...I started off my undergraduate career studying Biology, focusing on microbiology and physiology. I later changed my focus of study to Africana Studies only because the university that I attended was heavily impacted in my department. Had I stayed in that course of study, I would have probably taken longer to complete my degree as opposed to the 4.5 years it took me to receive my BA. School can often be a challenge because of any and everything that we have going on in our lives, but I do love learning. I enjoy being in a classroom setting and bouncing off ideas from my peers. I find that it can be difficult to find the energy to attend classes, be it in the evening or on the weekend only because I do work full time and work schedules can often be demanding. Furthermore, although I enjoy a class setting, I do like completing projects on my own, as you are not dependent on another person and will never be in a position to pull another persons weight. During undergrad, I worked in retail as it allowed me to work when I was available. Currently, I work for a start up, SoFi Lending, where we specialize in refinancing student loans and also offer personal loans and mortgages. The jobs that I’ve held have helped me to develop my skills in customer service and communication. Recently, I’ve learned quit a bit about mortgages, deciding factors for offered APRs as well as loan operations. These skill are ones that I am certain I’ll use in future. In my spare time, I love to relax. My...
