Undiscriminating Betrayal
The theme of Pudd'nhead Wilson by Mark Twain is that betrayal can come from anyone regardless of their blood, race, or how you were raised. In the story,Tom “forged a bill of sale and sold his mother to an Arkansas cotton-planter for a trifle over six hundred dollars”(Twain 98). Tom,who was Roxy’s own son and blood, still in the end betrayed her by telling her that he would sell her up the river but instead sold his trusting mother down the river. Also in the story,Tom who was taken in by Judge Driscoll and was given his will still betrayed him by killing him “Without hesitation he drove the knife home-and was free”(Twain 115). The Judge supported Tom and helped raise him as a white but was still betrayed him by Tom
