Cheating on Unemployment

This article informs readers of the nearly 10.2 million people that take advantage of

unemployment benefits and how routinely unemployment is being distributed on a daily basis.

They are unfortunately many different ways people cheat on unemployment one instance

mentioned in the article was an employee who quit and had her boss claim she was fired.

Another type of fraud is when employee’s work the minimum time required to work to get the

unemployment benefits then purposely getting fired and then collecting unemployment until it

runs out and then they do this process all over again.

The article goes on to state that the government is doing what they can with trying to

catch those who are committing this type of fraud but there is no way to catch every last cheater

which can be the employee and the employer.

This is exactly why there needs to be government invollvement like we discussed in class

this week. The government sets the guidelines and rules for umemployment compensation - but

it is up to employees and employers to be honest.

As we mentioned in our discussion, President Obama, extended the umployment benefits

which is viewed as very costly employers since it even raises their taxes and yet appreiated by

employees.

We also discussed how much government involvement would be best and from looking

over the threaded disscussions from the class I think the majority of us agreed that some sort of

balance was the key. The problem is how to find that balance.

One law mentioned in this article is that and employee must be working for a particular

company for six months before collecting any unemployment and I believe this impacts the this

discussion on the cycle many americans are living -find a new job work six months- live off

unemployment as long as possible then find a new job. This cycle is was is never going to allow

the United States get out of this resession we are in and it is only going to make matters worse.

My main recommendation for employers is to never in any situation falsely document an

employee as being fired as oppose to quitting not only for their sake but for our the economys

sake.
