Survey
To elaborate any crucial and impertinent details of the recent observation that 54% of 18 to 24-year-olds are unemployed, I have decided to develop short subtopics that will help look where the issue is coming from. The main purpose of the survey is to identify demographics of the given 54% so that any research in the future can even further identify certain demographics. To collect accurate information, it is recommended that the survey is kept short regarding how many topics we have, the topics should be relevant, and language should be common to the population of the survey. Trending shows that youth who experience unemployment will likely enter unemployment repeatedly throughout their career. The fact that youth unemployment continues to rise in the U.S. and is now at its all-time high should raise suspicion and create a need for further research.
Recession …show more content…
This recession resulted in excessive amounts of layoffs that most correlated with young adults. Though America is now considered to be past their recession, historical trends show that young adults who experienced unemployment at an early start to the work force will earn lower wages for many years following unemployment (Dunn, 2013). This has created the generation most refer to as Millennials, and the United State economy will feel a great loss of collective demand in terms of less job being created and slower growth because of the great recession. It is this question that must be added to the survey of unemployment amongst young adults, were you of legal working age in 2007-2009, the years of the recession, and if so, how long were you employed, (a) 6 months, (b) 12 months, (c) 18months, and (d) 24 months (2

Case Study: Aging in the Workplace

...issues as the workforce demographics increase in age diversity. Some of these issues include age discrimination, increased disability and healthcare cost, loss of expertise due to the inability of employers to retain the older employees and lack of proactive procedures and programs for older employees. This paper focuses not only on these issues but also examines the benefits of a more age-diverse workforce and a competitive advantage employers may gain by proactively developing programs and policies to help retain and attract highly qualified older employees. Introduction According to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report issued in 2006, the number of workers over age 55 is projected to increase significantly over the next 20 years with this demographic group projected to comprise as much as one-fifth of the nation’s workforce by 2015 (Government Accountability Department, 2006). The unprecedented aging of the world’s population and the strong correlation between aging and disability challenges employers. Observe the listed demographic changes in the workforce, any challenges and concerns employers have with an aging workforce, and some benefits of an older workforce. Find select academic and other related literature on employer strategies to prepare for an aging workforce and examples of successful retention initiatives. ...Gordon Bellamy 07/15/2013 THE BABY BOOM During the Great Depression the marriage rate fell as uncertainty over economic conditions caused people to postpone decisions that would significantly affect their lives. Birthrates also dropped: pessimism shrouded Americans' expectations of a promising future for themselves and their children. After World War II ended, however, prospects seemed considerably brighter. Young Americans returned home from war in 1945 ready to reap the benefits of victory and a prospering economy. Accordingly, there were almost 2.3 million marriages in 1946, an increase of more than six hundred thousand over the previous year. Many of these newlyweds had children within a year: a record 3.8 million babies were born in 1947. This was the first year of the baby boom, which lasted for most of the 1950s. Between 1948 and 1953 more babies were born than had been over the previous thirty years. In 1954 a record birthrate, a low death rate, and an influx of 144,000 immigrants created the largest one-year population gain in U.S. history. (Thomson Gale) In the United States, the term Baby Boomers commonly applied to people with birth years after World War II and before the Vietnam War. A large part of the cause of the Baby Boom was an after effect of World War II where the bombed out cities and fractured economies increased the needs for goods and services in unprecedented...

Entitlment

...Abstract Entitlement, as defined by The American Heritage Dictionary (1985), is "to furnish with a right or claim to something." The legal definition of entitlement as defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary (2007), is “an individual’s right to benefits by law or contract.” “Entitlement Mentality” as defined by our textbook is the general belief that someone is owed something (for example, a job, an education, a living wage, or health care) just because she or he is a member of society (Carroll & Buchholtz, 2008). In this paper we will discuss the entitlement mentality of various demographic groups along with the other generations we have labeled, and how the idea of Pluralism plays a part in the Entitlement way of thinking as well. Along with how this mentality is perceived, why and how it’s been acquired by our new generation and how other generations played a part in this new mind set and the potential effect and how or what we can do to remedy the situation. Introduction I would like to explain my background as I feel this will lay the groundwork for this paper and portray my personal beliefs as to why the various generations have played a part in my life and others lives as well. I myself was born in 1964 in Chicago the last year of the “Baby Boomer Generation” (1946-1965) one year before “Generation X’ (1965-1981) and from parents of the “Silent Generation” (1928-1945) and I now have children from the “Millennial” (1982-2009) or “Generation Y” (Pew, 2010). ...

Consequences

...Consequences of an Older Population SOC304 Social Gerontology Instructor Mandee Rowley April 16, 2012 With each passing day the age of the Baby Boomers will affect our lives on many social levels. This growing segment of our society will soon become the largest aspect of the American society carrying with it the majority of our aging population. The other age groups will be smaller, younger and yet will have to endure the cost of Healthcare for the Boomers that will be living longer requiring more resources than any of their predecessors. The Boomers will take with them into their Golden years a large grouping of income producers and leaving the balance of society to manage growing social costs. The political face of Medicaid, Medicare, Disability, and SSI will more than likely have several court battles ahead of them to ensure government cuts will not strip away the program essentials that will be needed by our aging populations. Healthcare Today we await the Supreme Courts Justices to make their ruling as to whether President Obama’s national health care plan (The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) is unconstitutional. The issue at hand is a Governmental mandate that everyone must purchase health insurance. The concern is making this a government decree and not something each state has the oversight and implementation process in. The Affordable Care Act became law in March 2010. With its signing by President Obama came expanded coverage for young adults...

...Journal of Behavioral Studies in Business Marketing to the Generations, Page 1 Marketing to the Generations Kaylene C. Williams California State University, Stanislaus Robert A. Page Southern Connecticut State University ABSTRACT Each generation has unique expectations, experiences, generational history, lifestyles, values, and demographics that influence their buying behaviors. Accordingly, many companies are reaching out to multi-generational consumers and trying to understand and gain the attention of these diverse buyers. Multi-generational marketing is the practice of appealing to the unique needs and behaviors of individuals within more than one specific generational group, with a generation being a group of individuals born and living about the same time [1]. This means that marketers need to understand the six U.S. generations: Pre-Depression Generation, Depression Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y, and Generation Z. When a marketer factors in the different characteristics and behaviors of the generations, it should be easier to build relationships, gain trust, and close business. [2, 3] As such, an understanding of multigenerational marketing is very important to the marketer. The purpose of this paper is to describe briefly the U.S. generations in terms of the times in which they grew up as well as the characteristics, lifestyles, and attitudes of the group. However, the primary focus of the paper is to describe various marketing...

What is meant by an “ageing population”? Examine some of the key ways in which an ageing population can affect the supply side of the economy? Answer: Population ageing is a phenomenon that occurs when the median age of a country or region rises due to rising life expectancy and/or declining fertility rates. Aging of population (also known as demographic aging, and population aging) is a summary term for shifts in the age distribution (i.e., age structure) of a population toward older ages.  A direct consequence of the ongoing global fertility transition (decline) and of mortality decline at older ages, population aging is expected to be among the most prominent global demographic trends of the 21st century. Population aging is progressing rapidly in many industrialized countries, but those developing countries whose fertility declines...
