Abstract
There are many different definitions for the word art. Most of them come down to art being a creative skill. After researching the definition I have written a brief description of several forms of art by the definitions of art.

I spent hours researching art and all the different art forms. I found several definitions beginning with our text book, An Introduction to the Visual Arts and it defines “art as a visual expression of an idea or experience, formed with skill, through the use of a medium.” (Preble, 2011) It also states that art is larger than any single definition. The next definition I found was from the Oxford Dictionary. ”Definition of art [noun] the expression or application of human creative skills and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.” (Oxford Dictionary, nd) The Wikipedia definitions is as follows,” art is a diverse range of human activities and the product of those activities; this article focuses primarily on the visual arts, which includes the creation of images or objects in fields including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and other visual media. Architecture is often included as one of the visual arts; like the decorative arts, it involves the creation of objects where the practical considerations of use are essential in a way that they are usually not for painting, for example music, theatre, film, dance, and other performing arts, as well as literature. Until the 17th century, art referred to any skill or mastery and was not differentiated from crafts or sciences, but in modern usage the fine arts, where aesthetic considerations are paramount, are distinguished from acquired skills in general,

The Eight Types of Art

...The Eight Types of Art Carita Dauer Art Appreciation HUMA 205-1202B Unit 1 IP Abstract In this paper I will explain the difference between eight types of art. These forms of art include: painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, printmaking, conceptual art, installation art, and performance art. I will then give a specific example of each form of art type to better explain each of them. The Eight Types of Art When a person tries to look up the word “Art” in the dictionary, it can be very difficult to find a clear definition of the word. There are many definitions for art, but these include various areas of art such as pop art, or modern art and not just art by itself. So with that being said the best definitions I found are as follows. Art is a visual form of human expression that can be applied to many subjects which engenders, by intent or otherwise, aesthetic and/or intellectual appreciation (Clarke, 2012). Art can also be classified as all of the processes and products of human skill, imagination, and invention. When the term is referring to a contemporary piece of art, the definitions of art usually reflect art theory and include music, drama, painting, and sculpture types (Art, 2010). Performance Art is defined as a dramatic presentation given by visual artists, such as actors or dancers. They generally perform in front of audiences, but not in a formal theatrical setting (Frank, 2011). The example I found of this type of art would be the ballet...

...in integer quantities. If requiring integer values is the only way in which a problem deviates from a linear programming formulation, then it is an integer programming (IP) problem. (The more complete name is integer linear programming, but the adjective linear normally is dropped except when this problem is contrasted with the more esoteric integer nonlinear programming problem, which is beyond the scope of this book.) The mathematical model for integer programming is the linear programming model (see Sec. 3.2) with the one additional restriction that the variables must have integer values. If only some of the variables are required to have integer values (so the divisibility assumption holds for the rest), this model is referred to as mixed integer programming (MIP). When distinguishing the all-integer problem from this mixed case, we call the former pure integer programming. For example, the Wyndor Glass Co. problem presented in Sec. 3.1 actually would have been an IP problem if the two decision variables x1 and x2 had represented the total number of units to be produced of products 1 and 2, respectively, instead of the production rates. Because both products (glass doors and wood-framed windows) necessarily come in whole units, x1 and x2 would have to be restricted to integer values. Another example of an IP problem is provided by the prize-winning OR study...

...THE PLAYER Good game design is player-centric. That means that above all else, the player and her desires are truly considered. Rather than demanding that she do something via the rules, the gameplay itself should inherently motivate the player in the direction the designer wants her to go. Telling players they must travel around the board or advance to the next level is one thing. If they don’t have a reason and a desire to do it, then it becomes torture. In creating a game, designers take a step back and think from the player’s viewpoint: What’s this game about? How do I play? How do I win? Why do I want to play? What things do I need to do? MEANINGFUL DECISIONS Distilled down to its essence, game design is about creating opportunities for players to make meaningful decisions that affect the outcome of the game. Consider a game like a boxing match. So many decisions lead up to the ultimate victory. How long will I train? Will I block or will I swing? What is my opponent going to do? Where is his weakness? Jab left or right? Even those few, brief questions don’t come close to the myriad decisions a fighter must make as he progresses through a match. Games invite players into similar mental spaces. Games like Tetris and Chess keep our minds busy by forcing us to consider which one of several possible moves we want to take next. In taking these paths, we know that we may be prolonging or completely screwing up our entire game. The Sims games and those in...

...SWATCH Watch U.S.A.: Creative Marketing Strategy “Vision is the art of seeing things invisible” - JONATHAN SWIFT INTRODUCTION As speaker after speaker paid tribute to the extraordinary skills that had earned him the award of “Marketing Executive of the Year”, Max Imgruth, President of Swatch Watch U.S.A., grew more and more uneasy. Fully confident that the product that changed the watch industry forever, the Swatch watch, would enjoy continued success, Imgruth nonetheless left the need to change gears, The competition, which was at first slow to react, had begun to implement strategies that stood to erode Swatch’s position. Gazing from his privileged plane on the dais, Imgruth saw an audience that was content to rehash past successes for a night, which was nice, but no at all his style. Imgruth had recently guided his company through a fast paced and, some would say, controversial diversification program. Having already achieved spectacular success with the Swatch watch, Imgruth spearheaded a plan to establish Swatch as a total fashion enterprise. This move was accompanied by a good deal of skepticism from colleague and competitor alike. His next objective was to make sure that this year’s # 1 marketing executive did not become one of the decade’s more memorable disappointments.1 BACKGROUND-THE SWISS WATCH INDUSTRY 1985 was a good year for the Swiss watch industry. The number of finished watches shipped abroad rose 41 percent to 25.1 million and the value of watch exports...
