...GS1140 Problem Solving Theory Unit 1 Research Paper 1: Paradigm Shift Daniel Yerger Page 1 Robotics Technology The idea of robots came about in 1495 by Leonardo Di Vinci who designed the first humanoid robot. The first computer-controlled robotic arm was designed by George Devol and Joe Engleberger in 1954 this led to the development of the first industrial robot in 1961. In 1977 Star Wars the movie creates the strongest image for the human future with robots like R2D2 and C3PO in the 1960s it inspired a generation of researchers in the robotic technology field. In 1989 a walking robot name Genghis was developed by the mobile robots group at MIT and was known for the way it walks called the Genghis gait. It is predicted by the Japanese Mitsubishi research Institute that each household would on a robot by 2020. Robots are mechanical devices that does some type of work or has a purpose that people would normally do, some robots are totally controlled by an onboard computer system and sensors, and some robots are controlled by people. Cybernetics is also a type of robotic technology device that can replace limbs, some of these devices are controlled by the nerves of the limb that was severed in some way. In 20 years we should be able to replace limbs that will look part of the body and be controlled as if it was the original. Industrial robots are used in it in a vast number of factories the well-known ones are in the auto manufacturing industry. A lot of the products...

...GS1140 Unit 1: Research Paper 1: Paradigm Shift Introduction: In this research paper I will be talking about cell phone technology and how I think it might change the way we live in 20 years. I will be talking about how cell phones will be used in the medical field by doctors, how we will use them for entertainment purposes, and how we will use them for connecting to our family in everyday life. I will also talk about what might prevent this technology from advancing and become obsolete. Cell phones have come a long way since the first call was made April 3, 1973 by Martin Cooper. The first cell phones were big and bulky, so big that they weighed a little more than 2lbs. They were so big that some were carried in small brief cases, and others looked like a brick with an antenna. The first cell phones were something that the very elite or very wealthy had, because they were very expensive going for about $2500-$3000. The first cell phones only had about 30-45 minutes of talk time and took about 10-12 hours to charge the battery. The old cells phones did one thing and that was to make phone calls very expensive call. They didn’t even store any number/contacts in them. Today it seems that everybody has a cell phone. Today there are more than 5 billion cell phones in use today. The phones today come in just about every GS1140 color and in a bunch of different styles. They are nowhere as expensive as they once were. Today’s cell phones have more memory, computing...

...Being an Effective Problem Solver and a Team Player. Ronald Davidson ITT-TECH GS1140 December 20, 2013 Unit 2 Assignment 1: Pascal’s Triangle Having an Effective Attitude for problem solving is important in improving your problem-solving skills and working with a team. It’s also important to practice the “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People: 1.Be Proactive, 2.Begin with the End in Mind, 3.Put First Things First, 4. Think Win/Win, 5. Seek Frist to Understand, Then to Be Understood, 6. Synergize, 7. Practice Renewal.” You also have to work on having the right Attitude; believe the problem can be solved. Take the right actions, Reread the problem several times, and Redescribe the problem. Work on Solution Procedures, Keep Track of Progress, Break the Problem into Sub problems, Start at a Point You Understand and last Accuracy, Check and Recheck. Understanding Paradigm shifts & Paradigm paralysis, you first must understand what a paradigm is, “It is a model or pattern based on a set of rules that define boundaries and specifies how to be successful at and within these boundaries.” A paradigm shifts can happen fast or over time, and you have at the world in a new way; you have a new set of rules, new models replacing old. A paradigm paralysis can occur when you or a company becomes stuck in there ways, and won’t change with times. When working with a team you must work together. Know your teams’ strengths and weaknesses, and use that to teams’ advantage. “Tuchman...

...Anthony Altaher ITT Technical Institute Problem Solving Theory (GS1140) Unit 1Research Paper 1: Paradigm Shift Mr. Moses Navarro 16 - Sept. 2013 Ocular Technology In this paper we will be discussing Ocular Technology with primary focus on the new Oculus Rift. The Oculus Rift is being developed as a three d virtual reality headset for gaming. This new technology is cutting edge because of its interfacing, head tracking at six degrees of freedom ultra low latency, new field of view range at one hundred ten degrees diagonal ninety degrees horizontal, a top resolution of twelve eighty by eight hundred, multiple device inputs, multiple operation platforms, and all the only weighing two tenths of a kilogram. This set of glasses could potently revolutionize the way we see and interact within our world. With this technology is currently mimicking our eye, head, hand movements and latency between our Nero brain receptors, all this means is that the possibilities are endless as to what this technology can offer us. One potentially lifesaving impact could be the incorporation of this device into the military arena. Wars happen and what if we could potentially save lives and unnecessary ricks with this device. This could be achieved by giving the solders a complete human sensory system virtual experience of simulated combat scenarios. What this could mean to our government is huge. We could lower training costs, lessen the possibility of training deaths, and allow our troops...

...Unit 1 Research Paper 1 Paradigm Shift Jayson Phillips GS1140 PM Introduction Today we use several operating systems to run our personal computers at home and this technology is nothing new. It’s a matter of preference plus what it is you may be using your computer for whether it’s leisure, or work. Recently we have been introduced to “smart phones” that have operating systems of their own; the two most popular being Android, and iOS. However there are others, but smartphones are becoming the standard. As it is stated in an article, “With the widespread innovations in the communication technology, people are shifting from their basic phones to the smartphone technology.” Key Findings This relatively new technology has impacted several parts of our society. Most relevant to the subject at hand would be education. There are new, innovative ways one can learn or teach using smart phone technology. Smart phones have innovated a thing we know as “apps.” There are several education based apps that can facilitate the process of learning or teaching depending on what it is you are looking for, whether you are the instructor or student. Smart phones have revolutionized the way we communicate and socialize. Once again, facilitated mostly through applications available on the phones themselves. Every smart phone is standardly equipped with a GPS and there are apps that suggest new places for you to visit, eat, or people to meet based on places you’ve been or interests...

.... Course GS1140 (Wed) ITT Tech 12/18/2013 Unit 1 Research Paper: Paradigm Shift Electric cars are technology currently in use today. Instead of using a commonly used gasoline engine the car is driven by an electric motor and is usually powered by battery. There are also hybrid cars which use a combination of electricity and gasoline. These are also starting to become popular. Some benefits of an electric car over gasoline cars are a quiet ride since it has less moving mechanical parts, environment friendly since it doesn’t put out harmful emissions and lowering dependence on foreign oil companies. One impact that will occur from electric cars is the loudness of cars. Because a car would be more quieter this could have two related impacts. This could affect road safety because drivers and more importantly pedestrians may have a harder time locating on coming vehicles since most people identify with sound quicker before sight. The second impact of having quieter cars is proximity of roads and highways. Since homes and residences usually avoid noisy highways having quieter cars could allow a change toward having more highways through residential areas. This could significantly affect building zones and regulations. The second and probably the most important impact would be the effect on the environment. Since gasoline engines put out harmful emissions there is no doubt electric cars would provide a cleaner healthier environment. This could have a long term effect...
