Unit 13 – Recruitment and Selection (Task 1)

P1 – Identify how two organisations plan recruitment using internal and external sources.
Introduction
In this assignment I hope to create an overview of two organisations, Gloucestershire College and Tesco. I hope to show what its main activities are that are involved in the day-to-day running of the business, where it operates and how many branches they have and also how many people they employ nationally or locally. I will also be explaining why vacancies occur and show how companies can use both internal and external sources to recruit new people. I will be showing how companies advertise for jobs and what different ways there are to apply for a job. In this assignment I will be showing how companies plan to recruit by using both internal and external sources.
Overview of Company 1 (Gloucestershire College)
Gloucestershire College is a reasonably sized organisation that operates throughout Gloucestershire. It is a college that has 4 campuses throughout Gloucestershire. One of them in Gloucester, another in Cheltenham, one of them in the Forest of Dean and the last one in Tewkesbury.
At Gloucestershire College you can apply for a job in many different ways and the way I am going to show you is their own application form that is on their own website page.
I have chosen to show the process to apply for a job at Gloucestershire College as The Head of School – IT and Computing

This is the section on the web page that has all of the information about Gloucestershire College and where you can navigate through to find vacancies and also the online application form.

Clicking this link takes you to where all of the open job vacancies are so you can browse through and find what job you would like to apply for.

As I said earlier I have chosen to apply for the Head of School – IT and Computing. If you click on

I will be picking Tesco and talking about the types of information that they create and use. Also the reasons why Tesco produce the information and where this information comes from. I will be looking at all of the features to get an entire observation on the business communication used and the reasons why. There are multiple types of information that Tesco uses they are, verbal information, on-screen, web page, multimedia and written. Verbal information is face-to-face information used to communicate with people using verbal means, Tesco uses this to communicate with customers taking in likes and dislikes of the customer to see how they can improve their service. Below is an example of a verbal communication Manager (speaking on the phone): “Good morning, Bill!” (By using the employee’s name, the manager is establishing a clear, personal link to the Receiver.) Jet2 Task 1

...JET2-Task1 A.1.a Horizontal analysis Horizontal analysis is essentially an analysis on the trend of the financials of the company. It shows changes in the amounts of the amounts over a period of time. In the financial statement provided, the horizontal analysis is between years six and seven, and years seven and eight; respectively. When analyzing the income statement provided with the task, several strengths and weaknesses are very apparent. They will be broken down individually and analyzed separately. Horizontal analysis is calculated by using the formula below ("Horizontal Analysis," n.d.) Income Statement Revenue: Net sales between years 6 and 7 demonstrate a 33.3% increase or an increase in approximately $1.5 million. This is a strength because there were positive sales during this time frame. Positive sales are always a positive finding in business. However, sales between years 7 and 8 demonstrate a decrease in net sales of -15% or $897,000. This is a weakness due to the overall sales being down. Cost of Goods Sold between years 6 and 7 demonstrates an increase of 31.8% or $1,048,000. The costs associated with manufacturing goods are always going to be a big expense. While the cost associated may appear to be a weakness for the company, it actually demonstrates strength for the company. The reason being is the percent change in sales. It closely represents the increase in sales during the same period. If the sales number did not adequately correlate...
