Unit 2 Research Paper 1
The issue that I want to bring to the table is that our prisons in the United States are filling quickly with repeat offenders. If there was a way to rehabilitate the prisoners why not take it? It would appear from the research that I’ve done that our prison system is geared more towards punishment than rehabilitation. Throughout this paper I will discuss the program I think we need to help reduce the overcrowding of prisons and the return of previous criminals.
The Department of Justice data shows that around 730 in every 100, 000 people are incarcerated in the U.S. We currently have 2.2 million people behind bars equal to the size of Houston, Tx. (Natasha Lennard, 2012). My proposition is to adopt the Israeli rehabilitation program into our justice system.
Israel is a small country of a population at about 8 million people. This small country has 32 prisons and only estimated 18, 000 people incarcerated. Their recidivism of repeat offender rates are amongst the lowest in the word (Matt Lebovic, 2012). At Hermon prison in Galilee still has the same security measures that you expect from a prison. The way that they treat the inmates and the way the inmates interact with each other is what makes this program so special.
The inmates aren’t called inmates they are called “residents”, they walk around the prison as if were a college campus. The unrestricted access to each other is what helps them integrate back into society. They are allowed to enjoy these specific freedoms because they chose to stay at this facility as opposed to other prisons that don’t mandate group counseling. Although it sounds like a fair trade, not every inmate can cope with the group counseling and freedom. These individuals then request to be transferred to a high security prison.
The woman’s prison Neve Tirza has about the same set up as the

...Unit 2: Research Paper 1 GS1140 The speed limit is 65 mph and I’m at a stand-still! Why must this happen every morning and afternoon? Traffic will always be an ongoing problem. The more the population grows, the more congested our roads get with more vehicles. Besides leaving hours before traffic starts to avoid traffic jams there has to be another solution. Some solutions include: employee parking cash-out, tolls for single use carpool lanes, and tolls during high peak hours on freeways. An employee cash-out can reduce the amount of vehicles on the road by giving an incentive not to drive (Bullokk, 2011). Companies would give a certain amount each month to the employee who participates in the program. Through data mining, the decrease in the demand of parking can be obtained. The information needed to gather this would be: the number off employees in the program, the financial incentive amount, and the amount of time the incentives were given at separate but equal intervals (Bullock, 2011). A decrease in cars on the road would limit the amount of traffic on the road and also free up precious parking space. Tolls for single use carpool lanes will also benefit in decreasing traffic. The carpool lane is mostly always free of traffic during rush hours which is good for carpoolers, but also counter intuitive. The carpool lane turns into a wasted lane if people are not taking advantage of carpooling. Sensors can be placed in cars to automatically charge the fare for...

...1 Unit 2 Research Paper 1: Experiment By: Freddy Prince Dijor ITT-GS1140 Summer Quarter Mr. Edmundo Zevallos Ezevallos@itt-tech.edu 2 Unit 2 Research Paper 1: Experiment The problem I would like to solve is one that every American driver has experienced. The problem is: how to waste less time waiting at the DMV? There are many possible solutions, but the one I choose to test is: by making all DMV services available online, with only a limited number of physical DMV locations and services available. Modern technology maximizes operations while reducing associated costs. (Hanington, 2012, p.43). The first step in order to test if this solution is appropriate is to look at cost viability. How cost efficient and practical will it be to conduct operations entirely online? Some costs, such as staffing and building utilities will go down, but other costs like web developers and advanced software will occur. I think the data will be in favor of online business. According to the Financial Planning Info Guide, service usage and profitability is higher for online businesses, while the costs for content and production, distribution and service is lower for online businesses than traditional ones (2013). Another step is to test if going completely online is an appropriate solution is to look at the market for it. Surveys and interviews can determine how many DMV patrons are internet savvy, or if the majority of DMV patrons have a preference for online or in-person service....

...Unit 2 Research Paper 1: Experiment Experiment: Drive time in traffic 1. Problem: How can I save time in rush hour traffic in Dallas, TX? 2. Solution: Using Toll Roads or Public transportation. 3. Course of Action: What is the cost variable for the options, Does it truly save time (is it efficient and practical) 4. Steps: • Is it simple and more reliable by car? • What is the average gas price vs price to ride public transportation? • Does it truly save money either way? • Which way is faster? • http://wikitravel.org/en/Dallas Daily individuals try to find ways to save drive time in rush hour traffic. We tried all types of things leave earlier but you lose family time, sleep or do other things to rearrange our daily life schedule. Well the cost option is for riding on the toll roads in gas, paying tolls or public transportation, what is the cost effective. I think the study would show that riding toll roads if the way to go. I say this because even if you ride public transportation it’s not available in every location, so you may still be in some type of traffic getting to your pick up location. Another reason I say toll roads is your can control the routes you go verses public transportation there may not be a direct route. You may have to do transfer from one stop to another and public transportation is only available doing certain hours. The cost may be cheaper for public transportation but, it is still possible you are putting wear and tear on your vehicle...

...Unit 2 Research Paper 1: Global Warming During the last fifty years, two environmental issues have received significant attention: global warming and the hole in the ozone layer. As scientists have investigated these two environmental phenomena some have made some effort to show that these two effects are somehow related. In this research paper I will further elaborate on their relationship. Ozone high in the atmosphere absorbs ultraviolet radiation from the sun, thereby protecting living organisms below from this dangerous radiation. The term ‘ozone hole’ refers to recent depletion of this protective layer over Earth's Polar Regions. People, plants, and animals living under the ozone hole are harmed by the solar radiation now reaching the Earth's surface—where it causes health problems from eye damage to skin cancer. In the 1980s, scientists discovered that the ozone layer was thinning in the lower stratosphere, with particularly dramatic ozone loss known as the ozone hole in the Antarctic springtime. This is caused by increasing concentrations of ozone-depleting chemicals in the stratosphere that come from spray cans and refrigerants. These long-lived chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs (chemical compounds with chlorine and/or fluorine attached to carbon) remain in the atmosphere for decades to over a century depending on the CFC. At the poles CFCs attach to ice particles. When the sun comes out again in the polar spring, the ice particles melt, releasing the ozone-depleting molecules...

Unit 2 Research Paper 1: Experiment

...When I was in college when I was younger, there was a motorcycles shop near the college campus I use to go during breaks in my class schedule. I worked full time second shift for a display company operating a printer for a good salary. I love riding and working on motorcycles but didn’t have that much knowledge tearing them down and assembling. The motorcycle shop did full service, engine builds and custom chrome and paint I would sit down and gain knowledge from the co-owner/head mechanic. He was the only employee of the shop then and would always get bombarded with customers around the time I was there for 30 or so minutes and at lunch time. I knew the basics of motorcycle, oil changes and detailing. I worked second shift at my full time job. So I went to him with an offer to work part time for a small fee if he would teach me everything he knew about motorcycles and do whatever was needed around the shop to help out. I would work at the shop for about four to five hours a week day and nine to one on Saturdays. The longer I worked there, the more customers we gain to all of us riding on Sundays and handing out cards or just word of mouth. After a while, the shop was getting more costumers and was getting too busy for the two of us working, but we kept up with the demand. The company ran so much smoother during those peak times of customer traffic. Four months after I was working there, the company hired two more people to work in the shop...

...Zombie Virus or Rabies-Flu Hybrid? Could a highly improbable genetic tweak cause a mutant virus? Hollywood would sure like us to believe it, or else they would lose at the box office. Though humans once dead can’t rise from the grave, it is possible that certain viruses can cause violent aggressive behavior, one such virus is Rabies, which could cause some zombie-like traits. Rabies is a viral disease and it causes the central nervous system to become afflicted with horrible symptoms, causing a human to act like a stark raving mad lunatic. Once infected, humans do not immediately show signs of the disease. Actually, the first signs of rabies, such as confusion, hallucinations, anxiety, and paralysis- could lay dormant in the body and not typically appear for a week up to a year. Once symptoms do appear, if left untreated, could be fatal within a week. Now take the influenza virus’ ability to spread rapidly through the air, and combine it with rabies. Could this combination possibly cause a zombie apocalypse? I think if this were to happen, gun sales would sky rocket. Can you picture it? The caption would read, “Now open, Zombie Season, how many can you get?” Rabies though is no laughing matter. Viruses can exchange pieces of genetic code, but they have to be related. It’s scientifically unheard of when two different viruses like rabies and influenza merge, because they are too different. Viruses don’t mix and match, they interchange only with their own gene family. Nature...

There are two forms of port expanders: internal and external. An internal expander has a connection inside the computer, typically on the motherboard and the only part the user sees is the expansion plate that contains multiple ports. As for an external device, it plugs into the existing port and then has multiple places to connect. The most common versions are used for USB and Ethernet ports. There are numerous types of ports that have available port expanders for them.
