...Acupuncture Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine in which fine needles are inserted at certain points in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes. It is often seen as a form of complementary or alternative medicine, although it is used in many general practises as well as the majority of pain clinics and hospices in the UK. Western medicine is the use of acupuncture after a proper diagnosis. It is based on scientific evidence that show the treatment can stimulate nerves under the skin and in muscle tissue. This results in the body producing pain and relieving substances such as endorphins. Acupuncture practitioners sometimes called acupuncturists use acupuncture to treat a wide range of health conditions such as headaches, lower back pain but sometimes used in an attempt to help people with conditions such as anxiety to asthma. ...Factors which affect access to Complementary Therapies. There are many things which can affect access to complementary therapies. The ones I will be explaining are: • Physical Factors • Socio-economic Factors • Education Factors • Cultural Factors • Geographic Factors Many people will experience many physical factors such as pain and mobility problems, some individuals may feel that it’s best to take orthodox medicines which are the best pain relief or option for them, this includes treatments such as paracetamol and ibuprofen. However, some people might have side effects from medicines, therefore they choose to have alternatives, such as, massage and acupuncture. This means that pain can be taken away without any side effects. However, therapies might not be seen as the best option as they’re time consuming as the pain isn’t eliminated straight away, therefore it can be expensive as they will need several treatment so orthodox treatment seems more beneficial for them. Therefore, this is a socio-economical factor as well as physical as some individual might not be able to afford the treatment if it’s not on the NHS and if it is on the NHS, they might not be able to wait for the treatment as they’re in a lot of pain which makes it a problem for those who can’t afford it. Education is another factor which affects access to complementary therapies. Many individuals just go to their local surgery for an appointment with the GP, who will prescribe them some orthodox...

...The Book of Psalms has been one of the most sacred collection of poems and prayers throughout history. The Psalms have many different themes, the one most familiar is the longing to experience God more intimately, and speak to him in a very honest and genuine way. One the most authentic aspects of Psalms is that they address the whole spectrum of human emotions, from intense emotions of despair to jubilee. The words of Psalm 23 are perhaps some of the most familiar words in scripture. It addresses the fear of mortality and conveys a theme of death but is intended for those who are living . Psalm 23 is versatile and speaks to the masses in different ways such as times of deep regret, joy, or fear. Psalm 23 begins the passage as, “A Psalm of David” which most would agree is an accurate title. The psalm begins with “The Lord is my shepherd” (v.1) the psalmist, who is believed to be King David, is immediately putting himself as a sheep in the interest of God. This is a very well known passage, so well, that the magnitude of the word’s meanings can easily be lost in translation. The passage has little to do with sheep, rather it focuses on being a shepherd. David states that the Lord God is his personal shepherd, signifying a personal relationship between them reminding the reader that Christianity is not as much a religion, as it is a relationship with God. The shepherd is the provider and protector of his flock, and the sheep are helpless without him. The opening continues with...

...nursing, counseling, and even literature. Or media studies about mental illness and psychopathology (Movies and Mental). As such, I had watched a psychological thriller film in my earliest day and the film gave an example about psychological disorder. The film was “The Number 23.” The Number 23 film was released in 2007, February 23th and directed by Joel Schumacher. The film starred with Jim Carrey, Virginia Madsen, Danny Huston, and Logan Lerman. Also, the film was Jim Carrey first leading role in a suspense thriller and the psychological disorder about the film is “Dissociative disorders.” Dissociative disorders are so-called because they are marked by a dissociation from or interruption of a person's fundamental aspects of waking consciousness (Maser Jack). In other word, the individual can’t remember their identity and history because of memory loss. From the film, Carrey acted as an animal control officer named “Walter Sparrow,” have a wife, Agatha (Virginia Madsen) and a son, Robin (Logan Lerman). The story from the film began when Walter was reading a book (his wife brought it from the book store where they were and decided to be as a present for his birthday ) and the title was “The Number 23” written by “Topsy Kretts (homophone pen name Walter used).” The book was a murder mystery and the main character is a detective who refers as the “Fingerling.” The character explained about the named he got came from obscure children’s book which Walter also enjoyed as a child...

...In the Jewish culture, one who was a shepherd by profession was looked down upon. Shepherds spent their days around animals, spent their nights outdoors guarding the same animals, and were found only in the company of fellow shepherds. There was nothing special about one who tended and kept sheep. But God saw something special in these lowly men. Looking into the lives of many great men and women in the Bible used significantly by God, you shall find that at least at one time they were shepherds—Rachel, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, and David. The first man whose sacrifice is recorded to have pleased God was a shepherd: Abel. Unlike Cain, Abel gave God a sacrifice of his first. As we have already seen, the sacrifice of the first of one’s fruits signified total dedication of all the fruits to God, from whom all good things come. Abel honored God. In response to God’s question after he had killed his brother, “Where is your brother Abel?” Cain mocked his brother’s profession by answering, “Am I my brother’s keeper?”, as if to say, “Am I my brother’s shepherd?” Shepherds were looked down upon. This could also have been another reason Cain’s jealousy burned against his brother. A mere herdsman, a shepherd, was looked on with favor by God, instead of him. 147 Brenda Siara Jesse, David’s father, when asked by Samuel the prophet to present to him the sons in his household, brought all except for David. When Samuel found not, amongst those presented, the king whom...
