Social Protection
Social protection can be broadly defined as preventing, managing and overcoming situations that affect the public’s wellbeing. The social protection sector consists of policies and programs designed to reduce poverty and any other defects. This is primarily done by promoting efficient labour markets, lessening people’s exposure to risks and improving the public’s capacity to manage economic and social risks. In my proposal of the government spending on the public, I have decreased the spending on social protection from $222 billion to $145 billion. I had decreased the social protection budget spending by $77 billion as I believe the majority this sum of money goes into pointless areas of spending such as benefits for the capable and able unemployed. Most of the unemployment population in the UK are capable of working in full time jobs, however they choose not to work instead and live off benefits. By reducing the amount of money spent on social protection, crime such as theft and robberies would rise in the areas of high unemployment as their only way of income would be to steal. This also would bring down the living standards in these areas as people will hold less amounts of money. Therefore sales for Ford would decrease.
Health
The health sector in the UK is primarily run by the National Health Service as this is the public source of service in the country. I have increased the budget on the spending on health services from £140 billion to £185 billion. I have increased the budget by £45 billion as I believe the NHS has been failing lately and investments in training the staff and new technologies would boost the reputation by a lot. By increasing the budget on health, Ford would benefit from this as the health living standards would increase and the employees and customers health and medical issues would decrease drastically. Therefore the

...MARKET STRUCTURES MARKET STRUCTURE In economics, market structure (also known as market form) describes the state of a market with respect to competition. MAJOR MARKET FORMS The major market forms are: • • • • • Perfect competition, in which the market consists of a very large number of firms producing a homogeneous product. Monopolistic competition, also called competitive market, where there are a large number of independent firms which have a very small proportion of the market share. Oligopoly, in which a market is dominated by a small number of firms which own more than 40% of the market share. Monopoly, where there is only one provider of a product or service. Natural monopoly, a monopoly in which economies of scale cause efficiency to increase continuously with the size of the firm. The imperfectly competitive structure is quite identical to the realistic market conditions where some monopolistic competitors, monopolists, oligopolists, and duopolists exist and dominate the market conditions. These somewhat abstract concerns tend to determine some but not all details of a specific concrete market system where buyers and sellers actually meet and commit to trade. The correct sequence of the market stucture from most to least competitive is perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and pure monopoly. The main criteria by which one can distinguish between different market structures are: the number and size of producers and consumers in the market,...

Demand and Supply

...Demand and Supply: The Basics 21 FUNDAMENTALS OF ECONOMICS FOR BUSINESS - (Second Edition) © World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd. http://www.worldscibooks.com/economics/6794.html Chapter 2 Introduction The most basic, and in many ways the most lasting, lesson to be learnt from “Economics 101” relates to the fundamental concepts of demand and supply and their interaction. These are usually presented in a simple graphical format involving demand and supply “curves”. The word is in quotes because in this chapter, for simplicity, we will actually assume only straightline relationships between price and quantities demanded and supplied. The main issue that is important in reality is the direction of the relationship between prices and quantities. Will a reduction in price lead to an increase in the quantity demanded of any particular product or service? Will an increase in price lead to an increase in supply? And so on. The principal technical tools for analyzing demand and supply conditions in particular markets, then, are the demand and supply schedules or curves. The demand curve shows an estimate or conjecture about the relationship between the price of any particular product or service and the quantity of that product that will be demanded by consumers. It is usually assumed to slope downward, in the general case, for most products and services. In other words, the lower the price of the item, the greater the quantity of it that will be demanded. Technically, this...
