A carer is given the task of satisfying the specific needs of the dependant, building a positive relationship with the dependant, promoting the wellbeing of the dependant, changing health behaviours, enhancing knowledge and skills and modifying the physical environment. Mia would have the most significant role in caring for Hudson and a lot of support would come from her parents Michelle and Phillip. Ava would have little role in caring for Hudson. When satisfying Hudson’s specific needs Mia, Michelle and Phillip would possibly have an equal role. Food, clothing, shelter, showering and baths and basic first aid and health are the needs of Hudson’s that must be met first. When changing their health behaviours Michelle, Phillip and Ava’s role would largely be one modelling positive lifestyle choices and facilitating those choices for Hudson and Mia. Mia however, has the much more concerning role of health as it directly affects Hudson. Mia must try to keep a healthy, balanced diet, be aware of special pregnancy needs and stop consuming alcohol and drugs such as caffeine and increase folic intake, participate in regular exercise and consistent sleep and make regular doctor appointments and attend antenatal and postnatal courses. When enhancing their own knowledge and skills, Mia, Michelle and Phillip may feel it is necessary or appropriate to partake in the education and training offered by both formal and informal groups and resources such as St Vincent de Paul or the Department of Community Services. Mia particularly would’ve taken antenatal courses to learn skills for caring for Hudson. Michelle and Phillip have experience in caring and raising children and
