...Chris Kyle: American Sniper Chris Kyle American Sniper When looking at someone’s life, one must think and take into consideration what circumstances have played an influential role in what someone becomes. Each and every individual has different personal goals in place that they seek in life and different ways in which they approach these goals. Individuals are influenced by family dynamics, social interaction, cultural differences, and overall environment. Chris Kyle, known as America’s most deadly sniper, was born in Texas in April of 1974. As a child he had his eyes set on what he wanted to be when he grew up. His dream was to be a cowboy or be in the military, which he was unsure of what branch. Kyle was raised in a loving home. Growing up his parents instilled important values that he would carry on into adulthood. He was taught the importance of family, protecting others, religion, and the value of one’s self. Kyle stated “If I had to order my priorities, they would be God, country, family. (Kyle, McEwen, 2012, p. 7) These core values that were instilled in him by his parental and social influences played a substantial role in the development of Kyle’s personality. Chris Kyle was a man of great integrity and had a passion for making a difference. He was known to be a little hard headed and stubborn which was a driving force behind his success. Kyle was also a passionate and encouraging individual. If he set his mind to something he was going to work...

...MGT320 Leadership Book Paper Book Review of The Way of the SEAL Think like an Elite Warrior to Lead and Succeed By Mark Divine With Allyson Edelhertz Machate In this book, Retired Navy Commander, Mark Divine, presents leadership from a military standpoint. He breaks down his training from the Navy Seal training school into 8 basic principles. Each principle is supported with exercises, meditations, and focusing techniques that will prepare your mind for the challenges in any situation. His personal influences of the martial arts are littered throughout the text. These eight principles are part of one’s “integral training” which encompasses the five human capacities, or to use the author’s term, “five mountains”. These five capacities are interwoven throughout the exercises needed to adapt the author’s eight principles. They are: 1. Physical 2. Mental 3. Emotional 4. Intuitional 5. Spiritual Principle One His first principle is to “Establish Your Set Point”. This is the “inner sense” of every person – i.e. what makes us different. To do this we must exercise the emotional and mental capacities we all have by accessing four key elements. First, “Make a Stand” by defining our own beliefs by answering the question “what do we stand for?”. Second, we must “Find Your Purpose”. This will answer “why we are here”. The third element is “What’s Your “Why”? Why we do things have either an intrinsic or extrinsic motivation...

...I am reading Lone survivor by Marcus Luttrell and I am on page 176. This book is about Marcus Luttrell a proud Navy SEAL. He joined the SEAL’s to help find the people that cause 9/11. When his team is on a special operation they are discovered by some goat herders and are exposed by the herders. In this paper I will be predicting and evaluating. What would have happened if the Americans would have kept the goat herders instead of letting them run back to the village? The soldiers thought that if they kept the herders their families would have been expecting them to return by nightfall. The villagers would have known the trails that the herders would take and would have a good idea of where to find them. Lastly if the villagers came looking...

Operation Red Wing was a covert Navy SEAL mission that occurred on June 28, 2005. This was a mission to obtain reconnaissance on known Taliban terrorist, Ahmed Shah in Afghanistan. The members of the mission were four Navy Seals. The four SEAL team members included Lieutenant Michael Murphy, Petty Officer Matthew Axelson, Petty Officer Danny Dietz, and Hospital Corpsman Marcus Luttrell. These four Seal team members became engulfed in a fierce firefight with a much larger group of Taliban fighters. They were outnumbered, outgunned, and were at a disadvantage in location. Despite all these limiting factors, they fought courageously and valiantly. In the words of SEAL Marcus Luttrell, they were never out of the fight....

...Hard work, determination, and perseverance is what defines U.S Navy Seals. In Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell, Luttrell tells the story of how he grew up in Houston, Texas, and how he was the only Seal to survive the biggest catastrophe ever within the U.S Navy Seals. This #1 New York Times bestseller was written to inform the audience of a courageous story between four patriotic Navy Seals. Luttrell, the author of this book, is also the speaker of the story. Throughout the entire story he is speaking in first person point of view. The story began with Marcus growing up and finally graduating from BUDs training on February 2, 2001; however, the large occasion in the story lasted for about 5 months in 2005. The large occasion was when...

...The three SEALs that made it safely were now severely shaken and were slow to return to the fight. The Afghan fighters recognized and capitalized on the SEALs sluggish recovery, and they closed in on the three men. President Bush, the speaker of Lieutenant Murphy’s Medal of Honor ceremony, explained, “Michael realized the survival of his men depended on calling to the base for reinforcements, and with complete disregard for his own life, Michael scrambled to a clearing where his phone could get reception” (Medal of Honor Presentation to Michael Murphy). The two other SEALs watched Lieutenant Murphy crawl up to the visible open area where the call was possible. During that climb he never stopped fighting, killing the all the Afghan fighters...

...Game Critique- SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs (PlayStation 2) SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs is a third person shooter videogame for PlayStation 2. It is the third game in the franchise and was released on October 11, 2005. Since I enjoyed the first two SOCOM games so much, I also decided to try SOCOM 3. It ended up being one of my favorite games on PlayStation 2 for multiple reasons. Both the single and multiplayer modes were upgraded and besides the lackluster graphics, the gameplay was solid for its generation. SOCOM 3 also made me a fan of military shooter games and the first person shooters today. Apparently, many other people felt the same way due to the fact that Sony named it one of its “Greatest Hits” by 2006 (Colayco, 2005). Sony Computer Entertainment and Zipper Interactive are the two primary companies responsible for the production of SOCOM 3. The game was developed by Zipper Interactive and produced by Sony Computer Entertainment, who is the parent company of Zipper. Both companies also consulted with the Naval Special Warfare Command, showing the realness of the game’s overall design (Colayco, 2005). Each company had numerous production teams, including an executive production team, art teams, design teams, and software teams. After the campaign is completed, the credits on the screen roll about three and a half minutes. The job titles that were listed included senior producers, associate producers, software engineers, and multiple art designers. By the end of...

...I always thought playing a field hockey game with a sprained ankle was tough, or remaining in the game after getting hit in the elbow with a pitch; that is until this past weekend. Saturday afternoon, I learned what toughness really is, in the form of Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell. The 120 minutes I sat in the theater and watched Lone Survivor taught me not only the true definition of toughness, but about brotherhood and loyalty to those around you. Lone Survivor is the tale of four Navy SEALs, who as part of operation Red Wings were dropped into the mountainous region of Afghanistan to do surveillance and ultimately eliminate the leader of a pro-Taliban group, who was responsible for the recent killing of a group of marines. The film begins where all SEAL life begins, BUDs training and hell week. Although the glimpse into the training of the seals was brief, it opened the window into just mentally and physically tough America’s ultimate warriors are. From the repeated exposure to ungodly cold water, the team boat carries to the tactically operations; these men are tested every which way possible. We are introduced to our four main characters: Marcus Luttrell, Mike Murphy, Matt Axelson and Danny Dietz, as the group is experiencing the all too common down time between missions. Very quickly the action heats up as the four are briefed on their mission and begin preparations. The mission begins routinely enough as they are dropped into the mountains and hike their way to the...

...The Navy Seals are without any doubt one of the most highest trained teams on the planet. Each Navy Seal is very unique because each one is a leader, teacher, focused, and very skilled in teaching others and learning. Navy Seals go through extensive training to become who they are today and they wouldn’t be half the person they are without their other fellow seals. “Getting your feet wet is the best way to learn how to swim,” says Jeff Cannon the author of the book. Seals teach others leadership by forcing their students to get in and getting their hands dirty. Currently, there are hundreds of squads of Navy Seals doing work somewhere around the world. They work hundred- hour shifts, and most of the time they are under a lot of pressure to do their job. They are probably freezing and soaking wet. They usually can’t speak to their families and they don’t have any money with them. Despite all of these hardships, they develop a strong bond with their other peers, their boss, and all of their missions. The first lesson for a Navy Seal is to set their goals. In 1991 during the Gulf War, a Navy Seal developed a strategic plan that had the potential to affect the war. When Seals plan a mission, their flowcharts are so filled up with ideas that sometimes they look like trees. Their mission starts out as a strong, solid tree base, then it begins to split and branch out into every direction. Setting a realistic goal for your team is the first step to reach a goal that is worth wile...

...Patrick Murray Composition 1110 Review Paper 1 May 2015 Review of American Sniper The movie American Sniper is a film based on the book written by the main character, Navy Seal Sniper Chris Kyle. The movie stars Bradley Cooper as Kyle and is directed by Clint Eastwood and produced by leading actor Cooper. Kyle is a Texas native who discovers his call to serve God and country later in life due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This movie follows the events that take place throughout and shortly after his career as a Navy Seal, as well as, the events that take place after his service to his country is complete. Unlike many other modern day war movies depicting recent events, American Sniper does not seem to be written as a modern war propaganda movie to support the war efforts, or made just win various awards from screenwriters guilds and academies, but made as a tribute to the most deadly sniper in history, Kyle. This movie does a wonderful job depicting the struggles both on and off the battlefield that a lot of soldiers have to deal with when coming home from the warzone. This was very well done by Director Eastwood by switching in between the battlefield and home life various times throughout the movie in order to keep the audiences attention. I believe that the true sense of loss that a soldier goes through was not properly conveyed, either due to the cast or the lack of suffering that the family and Kyle himself goes through. The length of the movie as a whole...

This mission was supposed to go in take Assail down and then leave quickly, but it is not what happened that day. Murphy could order the goat herders to be tied up, but then the innocent goat farmers would probably die from dehydration or...

...Personal Responsibility Stephen Helena Gen 200 07/11/13 Mr. Hutcherson Personal Responsibility Results that are good and bad are the byproduct of decisions made at critical junctions in time. The word accountability is one of those haunting words that looms when errant decisions find their way into moments of decision making weakness. Patterns of thought are what guide day to day decisions and help form productive habits. The development of positive patterns of thought will create mental momentum, not only in school, but in personal life as well. Personal responsibility, at this point, will become paramount. If priorities are firmly established and goals are set at the beginning of college enrollment, then this will considerably aid in the decision making process. Personal responsibility will be the pathway to college success because initiative, resourcefulness, and determination always end with positive results. Showing the initiative to begin the college process is a critical step in making progress in one’s life. Someone that never starts is someone that will never finish. The desire to have something more than the minimum to survive is innate in human nature. The insight to see a path to something more is vision. When desire and vision are combined with initiative, the currents of accomplishment begin to stir. Nothing will ever get accomplished without taking that first step. Without initiative, talent is a desert...
