...Student’s Survival Guide Brandie Bowland Axia College GEN105 July 12, 2009 So I am coming to the end of the 9 weeks of my first two classes. When I first decided to take on going back to school I was thinking to myself “What have I just gotten myself into?” Then came my first day and I was thinking “I hope that I am not in over my head!” Turns out that it wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. This class made it very easy to learn how to access the resources that are available to me as a student at Axia College. I am writing this survival guide as a resource for me to look back on in the future. Some of the things that were covered in this course that will be of use to my personal action plans are: using Axia’s educational resources, upholding academic honesty, setting and achieving goals, managing time wisely, reading comprehension and retention skills, and applying personality and learning styles. I am going to talk about each one of these topics in this “survival guide”. The first topic that I am going to talk about before I start talking about what I listed above is that because this is all done online it is considered distance learning. It is a lot different than going in to a class and sitting down in front of a teacher and listening to lectures. It does take a little more effort to succeed in distance but once you get the hang of it, it is all uphill from there.
