...original mission. What is their mission now? How has their mission changed, if at all? John Sperling started the Apollo Group, parent company of the University of Phoenix, in 1976. Sperling’s goal was to revolutionize orthodox higher education, and most people would say that he has done just that. Rather than catering to 18-22 year olds looking to find themselves, Sperling focused on the then-neglected market of working adults. He also recruited working professionals as teachers, rather than tenured professors. Most radical of all, while nearly all other universities are nonprofit, Sperling ran his university to make money. From the Apollo Group’s website, “Apollo Group, Inc. was founded in 1973 in response to a gradual shift in higher education demographics from a student population dominated by youth to one in which approximately half the students are adults and over 80 percent of whom work full-time. Apollo's founder, John Sperling, believed—and events proved him right—that lifelong employment with a single employer would be replaced by lifelong learning and employment with a variety of employers. Lifelong learning requires an institution dedicated solely to the education of working adults.” The case also provides the following UOP quote: By providing an accessible, high quality education, University of Phoenix is producing successful outcomes—graduates who are better positioned to enjoy the professional financial and personal benefits that a degree brings...

...University of Phoenix SEC430 - Principles of Investigation Bus Radio Theft Investigation This paper discusses the bus theft investigation scenario from the simulation web link. This work will describe documents, interviews, direct observations, and tactics for conducting the investigation. The questions asked, technological tools, and documentation will also be described. During the last three years there have been thefts of radios from buses in the Kellsey Unified School District vehicle yard. Most of the thefts occur one to three weeks after installation of the radios. Interviews included the security guard, Suley Smiley. He stated that he was on duty but did not see anything. Earl Folley the transportation director said that he was just dropping off his wife. Documentation included the footprint on bus 19. The footprint was photographed and documented in the notes in case it matches the foot of a future suspect. The area near where the radio was taken from bus 19 was also photographed and fingerprinted. Technological tools included photography and fingerprinting on bus 19. In practice an investigator would likely take pen and paper notes then probably use a computer to author final reports. In practice an investigator might also use a recording device to preserve witness statements. Other sources of information might include employee personnel files and background checks. The files and the checks might reveal persons who have a history of criminal...

...Ashley Cooper Biology 240 Week 1 Photosynthesis: Photosynthesis is the process in which plants convert light energy into chemical energy (glucose). Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplasts of plants. * The Light Dependent Reaction: The light dependent reaction takes place in the membrane of the thylakoid membrane of a chloroplast and the lumen of the thylakoid. As light hits the thylakoid (the pigment) the Chlorophyll is absorbing the energy from the photons. Chlorophyll absorbs the red and blue light and reflects the green light. This is why most plants we see are green. Once chlorophyll absorbs enough energy, it releases two electrons. To replace the electrons chlorophyll uses light to split water into Oxygen and Electrons. The Oxygen is then released as a byproduct and the chlorophyll keeps the electrons. The kept electrons are stored in the Primary Electron Acceptor. Once the electron is released it moves down the Electron Transport Chain. The movement of the electrons through the Electron Transport Chain result in the creation of Adenosine Tri-phosphate (ATP), which is a form of energy. This activates the proton pump-to-pump hydrogen ions into the lumen of the thylakoid. At this time two different situations happen simultaneously. Either there is a continuation of the hydrogen or the electron moved down the Electron Transport Chain end up in Photosystem 1. In the hydrogen continuation, hydrogen has just been pumped into the lumen of the...

...Solving Personal Problems: Applying the Five-Step Model Racheal George HUM/115 10/19/2015 Mary Lynn Cluff Solving Personal Problems: Applying the Five-Step Model The Five-Step model is a very helpful tool that allows you to identify a problem and take the proper steps to fix it. The first step, no comma helps us identify a personal problem that we may have. In the second step, we discover what is causing this problem to arise. In the third step, we identify several options that we think will help us resolve the issue. The fourth step, we can weigh out the pros and cons of each option so that we can pick the most reasonable one. The fifth and final step we put our option into action, monitor it and make any necessary changes. Nice summary The personal problem that I will be using as an example will be my daughter and her struggle with grades. The first time that I noticed that she was struggling was when she brought her first progress report home and she was failing all but one class. I wanted to get down to the reason why so I started with the teachers at school. I asked what they thought was going one. I then sat my daughter down and asked her what she felt was going one. She said the she could not see the board during class and therefore could not understand what was being taught. She was failing reading alsocomma and I noticed that she was reading way too fast for her to really comprehend what she was going on in the story. She would just memorize the story and not...

...Igneous rocks form in three main places: where lithospheric plates pull apart at mid-ocean ridges, where plates come together at seduction zones and where continental crust is pushed together, making it thicker and allowing it to heat to melting. There are two ideas about igneous rocks that are geologically important. The first idea is that igneous rocks evolve - they change from one kind of rock into another. The second idea is that rocks are not randomly distributed across the earth. Specific kinds of rocks are always found in specific places for specific reasons, all tied into plate tectonic processes. Igneous rocks begin as hot, fluid material, and the word "igneous" comes from the Latin for fire. This material may have been lava erupted at the Earth's surface, or magma (un-erupted lava) at shallow depths, or magma in deep bodies (plutons). People commonly think of lava and magma as a liquid, like molten metal, but geologists find that magma is usually a mush — a liquid carrying a load of mineral crystals. Magma crystallizes into a collection of minerals, and some crystallize sooner than others. Not just that, but when they crystallize, they leave the remaining liquid with a changed chemical composition. When a body of magma, as it cools, evolves, and as it moves through the crust, interacting with other rocks, it evolves further. This makes igneous petrology a very complex field. Tell the three types of igneous rocks apart by their texture, starting with the size of the...

...Personal Values Paper Rebecca De Leon University of Phoenix MBA 521 May 2, 2011 The word values can be defined as having important and enduring beliefs or ideals shared by the members of a culture about what is good or desirable and what is not. Values exert major influence on the behavior of an individual and serve as broad guidelines in all situations (Web Finance Inc, 2011). Every person in the world has values and they have been taught to them by what is around them. They may not all have been taught intentionally, but they are instilled in a person and stays with them as they get older. It either comes from experience, family, peers, or even from television. For me personally, I value most is independence. Not everybody feels the same way as I do but it’s what I have seen and I have experienced. Not only have I experienced it in my personal life but I have also learned how to be independent in the workplace. I am told or taught something once and from then on I need no help. My managers in the past have told me during my evaluations that it is something I succeed at. I have prided myself in never having to ask what I should be doing at work and I always keep myself busy. According to my self assessment reports, what ranked highest in were knowledge, self respect and security. When it came down to the ranking of instrumental values, truthfulness ranked number one. The reason I ranked it number one was due to my past experiences in the workplace. There are...
