It is a basic human trait to project our desires and thoughts onto those we are closest to. We tend to expect significant people in our lives to behave in a manner envisioned in our mind. Expectations in relationships can be harmful when unspoken ideals are projected onto the other person. Unspoken assumptions and unrealistic expectations commonly sabotage relationships. How many times have your feelings been hurt because you mistakenly assumed someone else knew what you thought or expected? Do you ever become annoyed or angry with someone who acted differently than you expected? Have you found yourself saying: “If you really loved me, you would…” “Why didn‟t you…” “You should…” It doesn‟t matter what kind of relationship you are in. Each person‟s expectations plays a large part in determining the health of the relationship. Perceptions of a relationship change when there is a contrast between the ideal and the real. Holding hands, inserting the sleeve of your jacket into her hands, paying the diner bills after over working the sweat glands and mostly for saying unspoken emotions due to excessive alcoholic energy tonic. Everything love-full things under the sun, this is not a love story. This is just a keen observation of a man in a male dominant society. A society that has just abruptly changed turning into something where both sexes clashing for superiority; this is where I was born, this is where I have been raised, and this is the place where everything in me sprouted. I am not romantic. Mostly, I am coined as a cave man. But I think that is the very reason why men are more beautiful than women. We don’t usually open our pages to be read by everybody. We select readers to know something that’s not generic. Something we nurtured in our privacy. Something we kept hidden for miners to break free. Something that only loved people can truly know. Something we can’t see and that’s just wrapped with uncertainty. Of course I have eaten spaghetti. I have drank ice-cold milk tea. I just didn’t go with what she has used to see me. This time, I gained superpower; the mighty strength of the orca hidden under kingdom Oceania. I am invincible. I picked flowers. I wrote letters, and yes, I let everyone see me doing these for her. You know, it’s not me to sing under the tree for her to be sleeping like a baby. It’s not me to whisper ants-attracting...

...In the Joy Luck Club, Rose's story "Half and Half" talks about her failing marriage with Ted. In a film version of the Joy Luck Club, the song "Northern Downpour" by Panic! at the Disco would play in the background of a scene where it shows Ted and Rose falling in love up until their marriage ends. When Ted drives Rose home after her conversation with his mother, the first lyrics, "If all our life is but a dream/Fantastic posing greed" would play. When they start to fall in love—or what they thought was love—it seemed like a fantasy, Ted saving Rose from "imagined tragedy”. "For diamonds do appear to be just like broken glass to me" fits well with when Rose starts have a "pained feeling [she] thought was the beginning of love." Both that moment...

...quatrains tell the reader of each lover’s dishonestly to the other. The third quatrain is where the tone begins to change. Shakespeare uses rhyme in the sonnet so that it can be read in a more comprehensive and fluid way. The sonnet is devised in ABAB format to give the poem a better sound when read aloud. Shakespeare’s work has been famous for many reasons and will continue to be great, but the way he uses words may be what he most famous for. In Sonnet 138, he used word plays, paradoxes, and metaphors to give depth to the meaning of the poem. There are so many different possibilities for interpretation of the same poem that many individuals will use their imaginations and take what they want from it. Shakespeare’s Sonnet 138 Then my love swears that she is made of truth I do believe her, though I know she lies, That she might think me some untutor'd youth, Unlearned in the world's false subtleties. Thus vainly thinking that she thinks me young, Although she knows my days are past the best, Simply I credit her false speaking tongue: On both sides thus is simple truth suppress'd. But wherefore says she not she is unjust? And...

...Eng 104 The book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins can be described as an intertwining story of love and survival. Katniss, the unlikely heroine, volunteers to take her sister’s place in the annual Hunger Games, a blood bath between two tributes of each of the twelve districts fighting to be the last one standing. As a tribute from the coal district Katniss sets ablaze the Games with her sacrificing herself for her family and her budding romance with her fellow tribute, Peeta. To Katniss the romance is all part of an act. Through her perspective the fact Peeta truly loves her is not thoroughly recognized but it becomes obvious as the story progresses. Peeta and Katniss' interactions begin before they both became tributes in the Hunger Games. Katniss relives their unspoken moment often throughout the book and even questions Peeta about his motives for giving her the bread when they were kids. "I say. 'Why did you, anyway?' 'Why? You know why,' Peeta says. I give my head a slight, painful shake. 'Haymitch said you would take a lot of convincing.' 'Haymitch?' I ask. 'What's he's got to do with it?'" (Collins 293) The childhood moment, for Peeta, symbolizes that even then his feelings seem evident and yet Katniss does not make that connection. She does recall his demeanor in school, "And more than once, I have turned in the school hallway and caught his eyes trained on me, only to quickly flit away" (Collins 32). The stolen glimpses went unnoticed and...

...How Deep Is Your Self Love? By Jim Malloy Jun 4, 2008 One of the biggest lessons on the spiritual journey is learning to love unconditionally. However, what is often overlooked, is the importance of loving yourself along with everything else. After all, aren't you a part of the whole of Life? Here is a wonderful old haiku which illustrates this... "On my horse, clip-clopping through the field. Aha! I'm part of the picture!" As you grow to realize that you are an integral part of Life's grand picture, it becomes clear that loving yourself along with everything else is part of the mission. Some of you may feel uncomfortable with the idea of self love, because it's often interpreted as being overly self involved. Many religions teach that total selflessness is the ideal, and that self love is the antithesis of being selfless. I'm not at all knocking selflessness, but is self love really opposed to selflessness? And is it the same as...

...Nothing can come close to the love that a mother feels for her children. Most women are inherently excellent mothers. Women carry their young before they are born and then continue to nurture them throughout their childhood and even into adulthood. Mothers make sure that their children are safe and happy throughout their childhood. It is the unconditional love that a mother feels that drives these feelings. It is hard to describe the feeling that a mother has towards her children. In fact, most people do not understand unless they become a mother themselves. Raising children comes with its own share of frustrations, from the needy new born baby that requires regular care to the sullen teenager, a mother's job is anything but easy. A famous saying states that "God could not be everywhere and so he invented mothers", these words are a great inspiration to mothers across the world. When all is well, a mother puts her children before anything else, including their own comfort and happiness. Mothers give an awful lot of support to their children, whether it involves very visible support or simple background encouragement. Not only do mothers support their children, but they also often hold the whole family structure together. This role is not always plain sailing. A mother can also be upset or hurt. Remember that a mother often takes the fallout for the toddler tantrums and the teenage angst. Despite this, mothers, generally, will love their children no matter what they do. ...

...Throughout the novel, The Awakening, Edna Pontellier experiences remarkable alterations of behavior, attitude, and overall character as the unspoken, private thoughts that compose her true self becomes apparent. As stated by Russ Sprinkle in his critical reception, “Critics invariably agreed that the actions of Edna were iniquitous. They condemned Edna’s infidelity and self-centered narcissism as reprehensible. But what especially invoked their wrath was that Chopin seemed to approve of Edna’s behavior” (Sprinkle). Edna is not a flawless heroine nor has she lost her innocence. Her rebellion is motivated by her self-centered desire to be pleased, rather than battling something much greater than herself. The parrot at the beginning of the...

...Kara Vedros 03/06/2014 HUMAN 1113HYB03 “ORDINARY PEOPLE” The film “Ordinary People” is story about the Jarrett family, an upper middle class family living in the picture perfect suburb of Lake Forest, Illinois. The story begins shortly after the tragic and untimely death of the oldest son, Jordan (also referred to as Buck), who died in a boating accident, that his younger brother Conrad, survived. When a traumatic event such as this occurs some families unite and battle the grief and heartache together, as a unit, while others become emotionally isolated and detached from one another. This is the case for the Jarrett's. The depth of grief that each individual character is suffering is uncovered as the film progresses. This tale is that of ordinary people faced with extraordinary trauma and its effects on the individuals as well as the family unit as a whole. It becomes clear very early on in the film that reason for the emotional disconnect stems from the extreme lack of communication between husband and wife and mother and son. One of the most important relationships in the film is between Beth and Conrad. Beth, a cheerfully superficial housewife and somewhat of a control freak, is extremely ridged and emotionally unavailable towards both Conrad and her husband, Calvin. Throughout the film, Conrad, who is suffering from deep depression as a result of his brothers death, makes numerous attempts to communicate with Beth, however, every word that he says to her seems...
