...Effective Communication Paper 1 Effective Communication Paper Effective Communication Paper 2 The techniques that Elmhurst Memorial Hospital uses for their employees are the intranet. If we need any updates we either get it through our e-mail or we can look at the hospital website. I think this is a good way to communicate with the employees to an extent. The hospital should host more open forums for their employees to learn about the happenings and going on with the hospital, especially now that we have built a whole new hospital. I work at an offsite and we do not get much updates directed to us we get it by word of mouth. This is a very ineffective way to communicate, many patients always ask us if we are moving when the new hospital opens, we never know what to say to them because we have no idea. My manager also does not keep us up to date about what is going on and I think that is not a good way to run an office. We have not had a staff meeting in over a year, we finally had one last week and he did not want it to run more than an hour. How is that communicating with your staff we had a lot of stuff to discuss with him and he seemed to not want to be bothered with it. I have asked two years ago if we could get an insurance reference book so that we pick the right codes for the insurances and to make the billing go more smoothly, still no reference book. I think it is very sad that he does not take an initiative to make sure we are included in what is...

...Sample Concept Paper ABC PROJECT CONCEPT PAPER: How to involve young parents in advocating for proposed school regulation Background of this idea ABC’s mission is to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities. In the past few years, we have been concerned about how to best advocate for young parents with children who have disabilities—especially since a recently proposed school regulation will have a huge impact on their lives. To sufficiently influence policy makers, these parents need to be educated on the issues and involved in advocating for the new regulation. Their involvement will give ABC’s advocacy work the necessary visible support of young families. However, few young parents participate in ABC’s advocacy programs, preferring to join XYZ for their relevant information and support groups or LMN for their help in addressing problems in the school system. ABC recognizes that young parents have a limited amount of free time and wants to make it easy for them to participate in its advocacy efforts. In addition, ABC needs to be a good steward of its resources and not compete for clients with other organizations that are providing excellent complementary services. Purpose of the alliance The purpose of this alliance is to • Share information about the proposed school regulation • Recruit young parents into the project • Provide training to young parents so that they can assist in revising the proposed school regulation • Defray the costs of parent...

...Smartphone Security Survey of U.S. consumers Sponsored by AVG Technologies Independently conducted by Ponemon Institute LLC Publication Date: March 2011 Ponemon Institute© Research Report Smartphone Security Survey of U.S. Consumers Ponemon Institute, March 2011 Part 1. Introduction Ponemon Institute is pleased to present the findings of the Smartphone Security Survey: A Study of U.S. Consumers sponsored by AVG Technologies. The goal of the research is to determine consumers’ perceptions about the potential privacy and security risks when using their smartphones. In addition, we wanted to learn if participants in our study care about these risks and if they take security precautions. We surveyed 734 consumers who are 18 years and older and own a smartphone. The risks that we address in our survey concern location tracking, transmission of confidential payment without the user’s knowledge or consent, diallerware (specialized malware unique to smartphones), spyware, viruses from insecure WiFi networks and others. What we learned is that most of the consumers in our study are using their smartphones without understanding that they are exposing their sensitive information to the risks listed above. We also believe the findings of this study signal a potential security risk for organizations because so many consumers surveyed use their smartphones for both business and personal use. With business confidential information stored on these smartphones, organizations should...

...The definition of fear is from Dictionary.com is “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous” so why are people drawn to fear? Fear can be like addiction some people love how it makes them fell and other try to stay as far away as possible. The allure of fear can cause us much pain and agony but can also bring us much joy and comfort. So why are we drawn to fear maybe it is the fact that we are unsure of what may happen? In the story fall of a house of usher the narrator is drawn to the house of roderick usher by letter. The narrator arrives at rodricks house on horseback. Usher describes the house as “quote”. Even though the house was scary and dark the narrator still proceeds to go into the...

...Abstract In chapter 4 of our textbook, we visited the subject of Role Conflict and Role Ambiguity. They are both similar in that they both result in some level of conflict, however they are also very different. This paper shares some examples of both subjects and further explains their difference and similarity. Describe a situation in which you experienced role conflict or role ambiguity. What caused it? How are the two ideas related, and how are they different? Role ambiguity occurs when a person is unsure about the role that is to be performed, or unsure about how to approach a certain situation (Newstorm, pg 90, 2011). People become unsure about their roles because it has not been appropriately defined and communicated. I experienced this once a couple of years ago, where I was working as a Library Assistant. The previous librarian had resigned and for some months I was reporting to the second in command. During this time I was put in control of many of the tasks of a Librarian, and so when a new Librarian was appointed I felt reprimanded for taking initiative to continue these tasks. I presume that as an assistant, I was not eligible to perform some of the tasks that I had been, however when the new Librarian came in there was no clear understanding of what was to be done differently; Communication was lacking in this situation. Role conflict is where the expectation and/or perceptions of a role to be performed are misunderstood (Newstorm, pg 90, 2011). Role conflict...

...In the section for the interpretation of my creative piece, the group that looked at my piece commented on power imbalance and appearance vs reality. These were both elements I intentionally conveyed though different creative elements including scale and colour. However, I am unsure where the idea that Macbeth is anxious came from. This was not something I intended to convey in my piece. Next, in “The Good” section size difference, colour, appearance vs reality, and the black colouration of Lady Macbeth’s eyes were all mentioned. I believe that these were all some of the stronger aspects of my creative piece. In the concerns section, there were a variety off different concerns expressed. In this sections there were ratings added that were...

...One thing that contributed to the wrongful conviction of Baltovich was the over-reliance on key eyewitnesses. About 20% of the time witness are picking people in a lineup that are innocent (When Eyes Deceive, 2009). The eye witness evidence should have not been used in this case because the eyewitnesses were all unsure of what they saw. The witness that claimed he saw Baltovich driving Bain’s car described someone that looked nothing like Baltovich. Furthermore, the two witnesses that claimed they say Baltovich and Bain’s at a picnic table were discredited because Baltovich was with his family the whole time, but still these two witnesses were included in the trial. The National Post (2015) article notes that the witness answer during a lineup should be yes or...

...tentative. In the soliloquy, Shakespeare develops an indecisive tone by using metaphors to further characterize Othello as tentative. Shakespeare utilizes this soliloquy to employ metaphors which reveal Othello’s uncertainty after being told that Desdemona is unfaithful. The tone which is also evident within the soliloquy helps to further develop the uncertainty seen in Othello spawning from Iago’s dishonesty. In the beginning, Othello exclaims that if Desdemona is cheating and that “though that her jesses were my dear heartstrings, / I’ld whistle her off and let her down the wind, / To pray at fortune”(Shakespeare 3.3. 302-305). This metaphor, telling of Othello’s still existent love but need to expel Desdemona, illustrates how Othello is unsure of the news when he claims he still is in love with Desdemona. It also characterizes him as tentative because of the uncertainty that she is unfaithful and the actions he would take to resolve an affair. Next, Othello ends his soliloquy when he makes the statement that “Even this forked plague is fated to us / When we do quicken”(3.3. 317-318). Othello is reminiscing on idea...

...telling the story. This story is to communicate with those who are in need of people to donate from. This story was attended to those who are unsure or afraid of having surgery or donating anything needed. There were a lot of details the author used in this short essay. She reffered to Jennifer’s strength to Xena Warrior Princess. She also mentioned how people were afraid to mention that they were donors on their identification cards. The details in this story were very effective because it happens in our every day lives. In this story “Our Own WarriorPrincess”, the bigger picture is knowing that it is okay to be afraid to go and have surgery. But more importantly, it is okay to go out and save a life. Maureen Dowd transitioned this story into donating when she mentioned, “There was a complicated operation for the two side by side, that lasted from 7:30 a to 10 pm”(Dowd 255).This tells you that there were to people side by side getting ready for surgery and a transplant. In this story, the author reinforces her argument by letting you know that it is very hard to come across a transplant and lets you also know what some people are willing to go through to get a transplant. Without these two paragraghs some people wouldn’t know the strengths that some people have. The author also wanted you to know that it is okay to be unsure of...
