fewer than 2 percent of Americans of traditional college age attended college. Today, new technologies and the information explosion are changing the workplace so drastically that in order to support themselves and their families adequately, most people will need some education beyond high school. College is so important that more than 67 percent of high school graduates (approximately 18 million students) attend. Because higher education can be essential to your future earning power and your overall well-being, we are committed to providing a set of strategies you can use to do your best. That’s what this book is all about. As you’re settling into your new college routine, we want to welcome you to the world of higher education. The fact that you are reading this textbook probably means you are enrolled in a first-year seminar or “college success” course designed to introduce you to college and help you make the most of it. In this chapter, we’ll discuss how you fit into the whole idea of college. We’ll consider why the United States has more colleges and universities than any other country in the world. We’ll also help you explore the purposes of college—many that your college might define for you. But even more important, we’ll help you define your purposes for being here and offer many strategies to help you succeed.

So what is the college experience? Depending on who you are, your life circumstances, and why you decided to enroll, college can mean different things. College is often portrayed in books and films as a place where young people live away from home in ivy-covered residence halls. We frequently see college depicted as a place

Cyber Formula

...In the future, special AI computers called "Cyber Systems" have been used in racing to help racers improve their abilities and reduce accidents. One of them is a machine called "Asurada", a super-intelligent AI computer developed by Sugo Corporation, which is being targeted by Smith, who wants to use it as a military weapon. As the system is built for racing, Sugo puts Asurada into a car called GSX and delivers it to the Cyber Formula GPX's qualifying round in Fujioka, however, during the delivery, the machine is attacked. The story focuses on a young 14-year-old boy named Hayato Kazami, the son of the designer of the car, who activates Asurada GSX in order to escape from Smith's men. But because of the machine has locked Hayato's driver data, he has no choice but to become a racer for the Sugo Team. In the first qualifier, he races heatly with Naoki Shinjyo from Aoi and ends up in third place. In the second qualifying round, Hayato meets Johji Ohtomo, a racer from Albatross DDT and become good friends. During Hayato's training at night, he is attacked by Smith's men. In the race, Asurada's tire blows up, Hayato barely completes the race in third place. Hayato made it into the final 10 rounds of the Cyber GPX mainly with Asurada's ability and luck, which makes him overconfident. In the first race, he false-started and got a 60-second time penalty. Hayato pushed Asurada too far and was forced to retire. This made him realize that he has next to no skill at all. Hayato went...

Healthcare Financing

...Melissa Storr UNV-103 01/02/2014 Nikki Squire Journal Entry My husband has definitely motivated me but also I think I had self-motivation to enroll at GCU and continue my education. I worked for the credit card division at Chase Bank for over ten years. However, being on the phones taking customer calls was not my dream job. I stayed because the pay was enough to provide for my family, the medical insurance was very affordable, and they offered flex scheduling, which worked with my home schedule. Last year my husband’s job moved us from Illinois to Arizona. This move caused me to transfer to a site that did not offer flex scheduling and kept me tied to answering phones. In addition to the move, I had two new babies under the age of three, so daycare expenses and the schedule demands pushed me to resign from my job and be a stay at home mom. This is the first time I have not had a job so it has been very challenging. I know that I want to work when the kids are old enough to start school in a few years but I also know I do not want to work at a job that requires me to work nights and be on the phones. I want to be prepared, have my degree, and be able to get a job that I enjoy and that I have passion for. Motivation is extremely important to student success. When you lose motivation, you start getting lazy, putting things off, until you just lose interest. Motivation, will keep you encouraged, and focused, which is what you need. I am really trying...

God Is Alive

...God is Alive in Everyone Natalie R. Crawford Grand Canyon University: UNV 303 01/19/2014 GOD IS ALIVE IN EVERYONE What would happen if God were to be completely eradicated from our lives? Possibly the world would go on and continue in the way it has been. A recent study shows, “There are 2.18 billion Christians around the world” (Pewresearch, 2013). Imagine if those people started infecting everyone with negative attitudes and thoughts. Fortunately for all, this can never happen. God lives in those who have accepted his Son as their Savior. And through the believers, He continues to live. It’s crucial for not only those who have already accepted God into their lives, but also for those without faith that he remains a part of everyday life. Proof that God is alive is seen in the pages of the bible, the constancy of his love for all, and the ever reaching faith that is spread through those who believe. Many people tend to think that the only questions God can answer are those that are tied to faith. The truth is that God is in everything; therefore all questions can be answered by or tied to Him. The gift of testament through the verses included in the bible is just one of many examples of the answers God has given. Through the words written in the 66 books of the bible, the answers to many of the dilemmas of our day can be found and explained. One way is stated, “As we read the bible, one of our first startling discoveries is that though the people in the story...
