1. Sammy quits because he liked one of the girls. He probably also quits because he does not like the way Lengel, the manager, treated the girls and told them they had to be properly dressed. Also, Sammy believes that he treated them wrong since they are in the middle of town and 5 miles away is a beach he did not have to treat them that way. He might have also quit to follow the girls and tell them he was sorry for what Lengel had said. 2. If I were in Sammy’s position I would have not quit. Just knowing it is a small town for one, two the manager would know my mom and dad and three I quit my job for something he said to the girls. I would actually keep my job and tell the girls at the moment they were at the register, hey I’m sorry for what my manager said, don’t listen to him. And keep my job and not quit since I might need the job if I’m going to school. 3. This scene shows that Sammy’s attitude towards the girls is very respectful. He imagines them being of the upper class in society. He himself looks down on him and his family saying they have lemonade and beer, in the middle class, which would be a common thing to do. As he rung them out, he imagined what their family and invitees might look like in the party.
The Yellow Wallpaper 1. The narrator goes through psychological stages. She begins where she feels depressed and anxious she can’t do things on her own. She feels trapped and controlled by her husband, she tries to get out and move on her own but everyone forbids her too. She later then goes to a “crazy people retreat” where the house is haunted and has been untenanted for the longest time. She then finds out the wallpaper is like her trap/jail in which she cannot get out and others in her same situation got trapped and she fails to obey that and in fact she removes the wallpaper and is free. 2. The wallpaper is a symbol of freedom and confinement. When the wallpaper was up, it showed how the narrator and other women in her same situation were and in the end she was the only one who could escape and take the “wallpaper out.” I can conclude that she becomes aware that it has been a house where women in the same situation have gone through, most likely died there because of their depression and/or nervousness and she was the only one who was able to escape. 3. I do sympathize with her because she has probably been the only one that was able to be free and not be in that nervousness stages like others. On page 965, paragraph 195, she says that the woman gets out in daytime. Here we see the final transition where she is able to recognize what stage she was in and that they had her in a mental retreat and she found out that the wallpaper was the symbol on entrapment. Also, on page 959 few lines before paragraph 70, she states she always lie awake as a child and get entertained and terror out of plain furniture and blank walls than most children in a toy store. I would not dismiss someone’s claim that she is crazy because there might be evidence within the narrative and I did not catch on or completely missed.
