What do you think that upper class people in the elizabethan england ate for supper? Do you think that they ate pigeons and carrots with their hands or veal and caviar on silver platters. Well they ate a combination of both but they never ate with their hands they would use forks, spoons,and knives. Since england at the time was a very powerful nation so they got new foods from all over the known world. Popular dinner food for upper class in Elizabethan England in London consisted of Pork and veal but they also ate Rabbits and Pigeons they also ate lots of foreign foods and desserts. Upper class ate lots of different meats, they ate expensive meats or cheap meats it depended on what they wanted to eat. They ate domestic animals like beef, chicken and goose. They also ate wild animals like deer, boars, and rabbits also fish like eels, cod and carp. Usually they …show more content…
But since they didn’t know the culture they didn’t always cook things the right way. They got turkey and tomatoes(or love apples) from Mexico. They got kidney beans from Peru and potatoes were brought to them by Sir Walter Raleigh towards the end of Queen Elizabeth's reign. There were probably lots more of foreign foods since england was so powerful but these were the more important ones. Since they didn’t taste as good as they could have upper class people kept foreign foods as special delicacies.

One of the most popular courses was desert they would use sugar in a lot of things. They enjoyed lots of pastries, tarts, cakes, cream, and custard, and crystallized fruit and syrup. They would even boil some meats with sugar and they didn’t like vegetables. They had a shortage of calcium, vitamin C, and fiber because of too many sweets and not enough vegetables. This lead to rickets, scurvy, skin diseases, and bad teeth. They even made dishes and playing cards with sugar-plate which could be elaborately

...Comprehension in Translation If we ask people who know English whether they understand the following sentence “This car is very powerful” they all say they do. Their comprehension is based on two elements. One is their knowledge of the words and grammar of the English language. But this is not enough. In different contexts and in different situations the word “powerful” may mean different things: “ a powerful car “ in the advertisement is not the same as “ a powerful method” for solving a problem , or “a powerful man” in felling trees, though the three “powerfuls” do not have smth in common. Similarly, the word “car” can mean not only an automobile , but also according to Webster’s New World Dictionary of the American Language it means “ a streetcar; an elevator cage; a part of the balloon which carries people and equipment” . “Understanding” the above sentence means that those hearing or reading it can imagine automobile, probably big, that can run very fast. This is where the second element of comprehension comes in: besides knowledge of the language comprehension implies knowledge of the outside world, called extralinguistic knowledge or encyclopedic knowledge or background knowledge.
