U.S. Losses in Vietnam
What did the United States lose in Vietnam? During the visit in Vietnam the United States lost the support of friends and family at home in the United States, soldiers, and even resources. The conflicts and actions that occurred in Vietnam during the war affected the United States tremendously with the support that was given to our soldiers from family and friends from home.
Because of the strategies and the actions that the U.S. soldiers conducted were inhuman in other words cruel to the victims of their actions. The support given to the soldiers in the beginning of the war, did not result in the same way as the war came to a conclusion. There were many events that occurred during the Vietnam war that were injustice crimes that should have never occurred. One event that occurred was, Agent …show more content…

Soldiers were also one, things that the United States lost during the war in Vietnam. There was 58,209 soldiers died during the time of the Vietnam War while in vietnam and 2,489 troops were missing as the United States withdrawn their troops. This was an even harder impact on the U.S. after already leading up from the discouragement that changed the support system from back home. Agent Orange was one of the causes of deaths for the United States’s soldiers. While in the process of initiating the event of releasing Agent Orange many American soldiers were exposed to this dangerous chemical herbicide. As well as death some soldiers, returned home already exposed to the chemical. In 1979 , a action of lawsuit was filed on the behalf of 4.6 million veterans that were exposed to Agent Orange. Five years prior to the court case, seven large chemical companies that manufactured Agent Orange agreed on paying $180 million to those exposed or the next of

The Vietnam Wall, And Rituals Of Memory

...Collection One Essay “ We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skin, but we all belong to one human race” (1). This is what this entire collection has been about: coming together, either as a community or with one's own past and present. “The Vietnam Wall” by Alberto Rios, “Once Upon a Time” by Nadine Gordimer, and “ Rituals of Memory” all proved that being connected has an immeasurable effect on one’s way of life. The pieces in Collection One: Finding Common Ground demonstrate how individuals can be unified by the mourning of the lost, can be strong during hard times, and will be connected to their heritage and memories always. In 1964, the US became involved in The Vietnam War. They are not particularly fond of...

Ho Chi Minh Influence

...Just as Americans have the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln as symbols for their transformation, so the Vietnamese are proud of the Vietnam War and Ho Chi Minh for their freedom. The “only war that Americans lost” lasted from 1945 to 1975, and included the people from the South and the North of Vietnam, especially, the major figure of the war. The Vietnamese politician, a Communist leader and Confucian Humanist who led the people of North Vietnam to escape the domination of the French, was a steady, militarily brilliant person who was motivated by the love for his country (“Ho Chi Minh essays,” n.d). The Vietnamese who are inside the country and all around the world hold a strong opinion that Ho Chi Minh is a great commander in Vietnam, though with a wrong belief in the type of Government:...

21 Laws of Leadrship

...Cameron Austin October 19, 2013 Essay Assignment # 1 Ever since the society started to believe that we needed a democracy type of government and a president to lead, we have had over forty men lead us. They have not always been the perfect person for the job but they have tried at least. Some of them have made mistakes and some have done a great job. This is all irrefutable and some can even be found in the twenty one laws of it. The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership are a set of laws that are supposed to define the way that you lead and give you a conscious opinion of the type of leader you are. In the laws they go over such things as the law of the lid, navigation, influence, process, addition, and solid ground. Under these laws, they have different steps in which the leading is different. Over the course of the years, we have had a lot of Presidents and a lot of different leading styles among them, some of them being good and some of them being nowhere near good. But we had to live with them and they have to live with themselves. In the movie Fog of War, Robert McNamara tries to go over the eleven lessons that he learned from being under the President of John F. Kennedy. McNamara lends us his knowledge of what went wrong during those years. During President John F. Kennedy's term, while McNamara was Secretary of Defense, America's troops in Vietnam increased from 900 to 16,000 advisers, who were not supposed to engage...

The Business Enviornment

...The Business Environment 1 The Business Environment Jamellia Harrison Professor Awa Business 100 5/10/13 The Business Environment 2 The Business Environment 1) Describe the role of business in the economy. Because we have a capitalistic economy, business is the main component of it. Business is in every corner of every sector of the market. Most everything you can possible think of that relates to the economy is business. Retail, services, agriculture, manufacturing, health care, even political campaigning all involves business. Even when civilizations were based on an agricultural type of economy, business transactions occurred. For example, in an agricultural society based solely on farming, there would be different types of farming taking place. If one farmer grew coconuts, and his neighbor had cattle, they would probably trade coconuts and milk with each other. This is just a practical business transaction to make. If they did not barter in this way, one would be forced to go without milk and the other would be forced to go without coconuts. This is just an illustration to point out that business takes place even on the smallest scale throughout history. Without business, humans would have to completely fend for themselves for absolutely everything. We would have to find our own food every single day. We would have to gather materials to create shelter because there would be no store to buy...

Language Extinction

...technology, which provided us with mass transit and mass communications. Many places that were once exotic realms barely set upon, became multi million dollar wellness centres for exhausted western tourists, complete with western television, McDonalds outlets and internet cafes. Professor Austin’s quote rightly alludes to the fact that the developments of modern technology over the past century have been a major factor in permanently concentrating the world closer together, a place where cultures bleed into one another. And it is having a dramatic effect on the number of languages. If means are not devised to stop it, half of the worlds 7000 odd languages that are spoken today will disappear within the next couple of generations. (SBS, 2013). This will also correspond to the loss of half of the world’s cultural wealth and ancestral knowledge. I will discuss the reasons why language diversity is important, and the challenges that are presented to it by contemporary society. Language is the most important tool we as humans have at our disposal. It is the means by which we learn, and the means by which we teach. It provides us with the only vehicle to express our feelings, articulate our ideas and collaborate. Human language itself is remarkably unique in the context of the natural world. We are the only creature that both speaks and writes and the only creature with the power of recursive thought, which in layman’s terms allows the ability for us to recall past episodes and...

Leadership

...Modern Military Leadership Oliver Maddox Baker College This essay will journey through the never ending evolution of military leadership and how it has evolved into what is used to lead the world’s best fighting force. Areas such as wartime, peacetime and the global war on terrorism leadership will be explored. Why has leadership changed over the years and what were the lessons learned in during the development of this modern day leadership, will be answered in this essay. They will hopefully take away a better understanding how and why military leaders lead the way that they do. According to (Laurence, 2011) Today’s military leaders, more so than political leaders and corporate executives, face overwhelming volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. In addition to the leadership demands posed by the in extremis conditions of warfare, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan require cultural competencies as well. In the military one does not simply sign up to be a leader. For an officer, they have to first get a degree from a college and be accepted into a military officer program or graduate one of the vigorous military academies. The enlisted side of the military also has to attend and successfully graduate various leadership schools as they progress in rank. These schools are designed to prepare the enlisted member as they embark on the levels of Non-Commissioned Officer and Senior Enlisted Non-Commissioned Officer. From the first day of basic training, leadership...

Rock and Roll Has Lost the Ability to Effect Meaningful Societal Change

...Societal Change Music has often been said to be the universal language. Rock musicians especially learned to use the power of rock music and lyrics to effect powerful changes in society, most particularly in the 1960’s and 1970’s. The early age of Rock and Roll was an exciting time for the musicians, lyricists and the mass of young people who listened to them. While it may be that rock music in all of its genres of today can still prod listeners to champion for social change, the rock music market has fragmented so dramatically that rock and roll has lost the ability to impact mass sections of the population and has therefore, lost its unique voice and ability to effect real social change in US society. The turbulence of the 1960’s, due to the escalation of the conflict in Vietnam to a full out war, the assassination of both President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. and the push for civil rights for all people made for fertile ground for songwriters to encourage change for the better through their music. (Hibbard and Kaleialoha, p 122) Lyricists and composers worked in tandem to write songs to both inform the public and, in some cases, incite the public to take action against what was happening in, around and to the world. Songs such as “Blowin in the Wind, written by Bob Dylan in 1962 and “Ball of Confusion (that’s what the world is today)”, written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong in 1970 for the Temptations spoke to the listener about war and the stress...
