In the book, And the Earth Did Not Devour Him, the author Thomas Rivera has many literary devices that help give a better understanding of the book. One main literary device that stood out to me was events. The events in the book allows the audience to grasp an idea toward the character’s actions and help develop the mood.The character’s actions have a relationship with the events because the events help explain what the character will do next. One short story that has the most emotional stress on the main character is, “It’s That It Hurts”, (Rivera 92-96). This event explains how emotional the main character got which leads him to take a drastic turn. The character feels mixed emotions of embarrassment and anger when he is at school. The
