I will introduce the graphic organizer for sequencing of events in a story to a second grade class. I will show the class the graphic organizer by using an overhead copy to display so the students can get familiar with how it looks. I will explain to the students we will use this graphic organizer to show what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of a story. I will tell the students that the graphic organizer is a good tool to help us to this because it has specific spaces to take notes of the order of events in the story. I will also explain each box of the graphic organizer and what information will need to go into each box. The measurable objective is students will retell important events in stories in logical order. Region: TX- Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Subject- Chapter: 110 Reading/Comprehension Skills Subchapter: Elementary Grade- Course: Second Grade Standard: Reading/Comprehension Skills. Students use a flexible range of metacognitive reading skills in both assigned and independent reading to understand an author’s message. Students will continue to apply earlier standards with greater depth in increasingly more complex texts as they become self-directed, critical readers. The student is expected to: retell important events in stories in logical order The students will be given their own graphic organizers. We will read the story “First Day Jitters” by Julie Danneberg together as a class. They will then need to fill in their graphic organizers with the information from the story. The students will then trade their graphic organizer with their partner and read each other’s organizer and discuss and compare the information they had on their graphic organizers and if they included important facts about the beginning, middle, and end.
