And many people have direct knowledge about psychology because they have visited psychologists, for instance, school counselors, family therapists, and religious, marriage, or bereavement counselors. Because we are frequently exposed to the work of psychologists in our everyday lives, we all have an idea about what psychology is and what psychologists do. Although significant prior work has examined drivers and performance conse quences o f adaptation/standardization o f marketing strategies in international markets, researchers have yet to apply this avenue o f inquiry to sustainable marketing strategies. Building on contingency theory and the concept o f strategic fit, the authors develop a model o f drivers o f sustainable export marketing strategy adaptation and explore the circum stances under which such a strategy affects export performance. Using a sample o f U.K. exporters, they find that vari ous macro- and microenvironmental factors are responsible for sustainable export marketing strategy adaptation, which shapes the nature o f sustainable export marketing strategy fit and its export venture performance outcomes. Pierre-Fran¸ois Verhulst was born 200 years ago. After a short biograc phy of P.-F. Verhulst in which the link with the Royal Military Academy in Brussels is emphasized, the early history of the so-called “Logistic Model” is described. The relationship with older growth models is discussed, and the motivation of Verhulst to introduce different kinds of limited growth models is presented. The (re-)discovery of the chaotic behaviour of the discrete version of this logistic model in the late previous century is reminded. We conclude by referring to some generalizations of the logistic model, which were used to describe growth and diffusion processes in the context of technological innovation, and for which the author studied the chaotic behaviour by means of a series of computer experiments, performed in the eighties of last century by means of the then emerging “micro-computer” technology. 1 P.-F.
