Music has been around for centuries. It is an art that does not lose value through years; it only gains value with memories. Music can bring you back to your favorite moment in your life to your saddest. In two thousand fifteen, all types of music genres due to hit radio stations influence us but I believe that amongst all the genres of music, Pop and R&B are the most influential to our society today. As different as these two genres might be, the similarities over rule them. Our generation is beginning to confuse the two genres immensely because of their similar beats, style and publicity/marketing strategies of these tunes.
Pop music as of right now is based off of hits from Justin Bieber to Taylor Swift. Pop is what radio stations now call their ‘Hits 100’. It’s the most listened to songs, with beats that make you get up and get on your feet. The definition of pop according to Google “commercial popular music, in particular accessible, tuneful music of a kind popular since the 1950s and sometimes contrasted with rock, soul, or other forms of popular music.”
“You know, jazz is the mother of all American music. R&B and pop and rap and everything are the branches on the main tree of the life of music, American music, which is jazz.”(Burdon)
Pop is a mix of all genres put together to make one sound. R&B on the other hand is a harsher with deeper lyrics. People dislike R&B for this reason due to the fact it has more vulgar language and uses slang that not many people feel is appropriate. R&B is a branch off of soul music and funk. It’s the beat that makes you want to sway! Pop and R&B are becoming confused today because of their similar beats. With artist who do not even know what genre they fit into they begin to start using both in all their music. Artist like Justin Bieber differ in every song. This creates a mindset to all fans that if Justin has one song Pop all his music must fall into the pop category when that is not the case. In the past artist were more placed into one category and one category only but now a days all artist want to get the fan base of as many fans possible so they branch off of different genres to create the affect of them being a well rounded artist.
In the music industry, it is not all about the music. At one point in time it was but in two thousand fifteen it is more about the person you show to the world, the persona of fashion that describes you and your music. All artist want to ‘WOW’ their audience, their style is where they do so without their vocals. Big Pop music names like Lady Gaga sparked gossip while her albums were dropping. She would wear outfits such as bubbles, meat and garbage. No human ever would wear something like that but. Lady Gaga did. She sparked people’s minds with the question of “ What is next?” “What will she wear?” Gaga knew how to ring in her fans and haters by being the talk of Hollywood by doing this. In both industries this is acceptable. We have Rihanna, R&B singer, dressing in more revealing clothes near her new single coming out. Magazines and tabloids are being rushed to write an article of what just happened and paparazzi’s are begging to a get moneymaking shot.
With style being a huge impact for both industries of Pop and R&B so is the marketing plans behind every artist. All artists have a plan, yes they do it for their fans but they also have to make money off of it as well. Celebrities are the easiest way to market anything to be sold to the public. People believe if this celebrity has it, I have to! This is where companies sponsor tours and albums and donate to certain causes to make sure this celebrity can help them in return. Companies such as Cadillac went from an elderly base car to the ‘hottest’ wheels on the street. They began to put it in R&B music videos. This showed fans, “Hey this car is awesome cause (insert name) has it!” Not only did the music industry help tremendously by showing off products but on commercials. “Today, our consumerist culture has fallen in love and married our most popular art form — and the old arguments about using pop music to sell a product don’t seem to matter in an era when profits for musicians have fallen away.” (Sanburn) On every commercial if you hear it or not is a song and in that song is a reminder to buy a product. R&B music is used less for this marketing strategy because it is not as known as Pop and not culturally liked as much.
The two genres are alike in more ways than they are different. At the end of the day they are both a form of music that relives stress, puts smiles on peoples face and becomes an escape. As our culture continues to grow, music will continue as long as our Earth is spinning. Despite the belief of R&B and Pop being basically the same genre to some, they are not. They are like music genre twins so similar but if you really learn about them not so similar at all. I personally like R&B more than Pop because I feel like it is more moving than anything I have heard a pop singer sing. It really states how you feel rather than in Pop I feel artist say certain lyrics to be remembered instead of being felt. “Music is forever; music should grow and mature with you, following you right on up until you die.” (Simon)

Examples Of Stereotypes In Dracula

...to Dictonary.com a vampire is, “A preternatural being, commonly believed to be a reanimated corpse, that is said to suck the blood of sleeping persons at night.” Dracula fits into that definition of a vampire almost perfectly because vampires are essentially dead people that came bad to live to drink other people’s blood and that is exactly what Dracula does in the story. Dracula makes people think that vampires have to be all the exact same way. It kind of set the way for modern day television and movies. Although Stoker didn’t create the concept of vampires, he expressed how they looked and acted more than how they were described before. In Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the main character is not a stereotype but over time television and media has made it a stereotype in works such as The Vampire Diaries. The first thing people think about when they hear vampire is that they drink lots of human blood. Blood is what vampires need to get their energy to do everyday tasks and activities. In the eighteenth chapter of Dracula, Renfield explains to Mina that “The doctor here will bear me...

Vampire Presentation

...I'm going to talk about Vampire [ˈvæmˌpaɪə]. There are six part of this presentation, which are What's the vampire, The history of Vampires, The vampire's features and fears, Vampire's propagation [ˌprɔpəˈgeɪʃən], The reality of Vampires and Vampires on the movies. So, to begin with, let's look at what's the vampire. Vampires are mythological or folkloric[ˈfəukˌlɔ:rik] creatures who subsist[səbˈsɪst] by feeding on the life essence [ˈesns] of living creatures, regardless of whether they are undead or a living person. In other words, vampires are the creatures that feed on with blood. The first vampire is named Cain[kein], he is one of tow sons of Adam [ˈædəm] and Eva [ˈi:və] ,but he killed his brother Abe [eib] and refused to amend [əˈmend]. The 13 members founders their own clans and held strong powers. thousands of years later, the vampires have increased to 15th-16th generation. Next, I'd like to look at the history of vampires. ...We get it, the movies were bad compared to the books, but making fun of it is so overdone now.  Frankly, it distracted me from the rest of the book. Sure I have seen it done before, Vampire Academy made fun of Twilight in the movie and Vampire Diaries did as well during its first season on television - but this book had nothing to do with vampires, just regular teenagers. And I know, freedom of speech and all that jazz, but bashing another author's work - even just the movies based off of their work - makes me want to put the book down and stop reading. Writing is a hard industry, some people make it and some don't, but don't try to boost yourself up by tearing down another author's...

Vampire Hunters Research Paper

...You cannot talk about the development of the vampire hunters without talking about the development of the vampires themselves. Vampires have changed and developed so much since the days of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. They’ve turned from creatures of the night that you feared would turn you into something unspeakable and kill you to something that you long to be. They’re no longer feared but desired. You can’t talk about the development of vampire hunters without speaking of where vampires first started and where they’ve gone now. You start off with Nosferatu and the concept of “vampire hunters” as a book Johnathan Harker finds on his way to Count Dracula’s mansion. He reads it in an inn and ends up taking it with him, after meeting with the Count,...

Zombies

...zombie entertainment for the future. Over time, zombies have proven to “thrive in popular culture during times of recession, epidemic and general unhappiness” (Drenzer para 4). Since the United States is currently attempting to recover from a recession, zombies in entertainment are flourishing within American’s everyday lives. “The reason zombies are so powerful is that they capture an atheistic fear of the dead” (Marche para 4). Many experts say that this is one of the many reasons why the people like the shows so greatly and also why they prepare themselves for the worst (Gross para 25). As time has passed, zombies have highly impacted the entertainment industry. “While vampires may have been the ‘it’ monster in recent years, with the popularity of successful franchises such as ‘Twilight’ and ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ there's a new undead species now in-demand: zombies” (“Zombies Rise Again in Pop Culture” para 1). These creatures reach the “top best seller lists” in entertainment making their title become “the king of all genres”...

A Vampire

...The footsteps got closer and I started to run. The forest was dark but I could see my house in the distance, if I could just keep running I could make it home. Just as I reached my house, I smashed into what seemed like body at high speed. “Fuck, that hurt.” I whispered as I rubbed head, it felt like I had ran straight into a wall. My head was stinging and I stumbled backwards before a pair of ice-cold hands held me just where my crop top stopped. The person covered my mouth in order to stop me from screaming, I tried to bite him but it felt like I had just bitten a stone. He threw me over his shoulder and carried me towards further into the woods. It was as if I was weightless to the person. “If you scream, you’ll regret it.” He said in a cold voice. I didn’t try to scream or resist, I was afraid the person would hurt me. He walked for a while with no trouble; we entered a dark house that looked abandoned. Oh, I was going to die here, I thought. He carried me into what looked like a sitting room; he placed me down, turned on the dim lighting and walked towards me. I moved backwards, until my back hit a wall. I cast a longing glance towards the door he had just closed. “Oh, sweetheart. You don’t even want to consider it.” He said in a, raspy, deep and seductive voice. “What do you want from me?” I asked stupidly, I shouldn’t have said anything. “It’s simple…” He began to move closer to me and my heart skipped a beat, I didn’t bother taking his profile...

Werewolves

... this literary concept of a wolf-human hybrid is rooted in evil. They are graphically described as “bestial, blood-drinking, human-flesh-eating creatures, endowed with more than human agility and strength” (Rudin 115). Werewolves served as popular antagonists throughout media, including television and cinema; yet, in recent years, the media’s perception of werewolves has taken a noticeable shift in the opposite direction. Stephenie Meyer, the critically acclaimed author of the Young Adult series The Twilight Saga, embodies this shift to the “new” werewolf. Meyer made a drastic change to the very nature of what was once a ferocious beast by characterizing werewolves as more gentle and protective. People wonder, though, what caused this sudden switch of characteristics? Through texts such as Rick Bass’ The Ninemile Wolf, Barry Holstun Lopez’s Of Wolves and Men, Valerie Fogleman’s piece “American Attitudes Towards Wolves: a History of Misperception,” Stephenie Meyer’s The Twilight Saga, and more, this paper will argue that the “original” werewolf belief was founded on America’s misperception of wolves and that, through revelations in animal studies, particularly the Endangered Species Act of 1973, modern American culture has transitioned into a more animal sympathetic society, creating literary changes in the behavior of werewolves to occur with acceptance. There is a definitive transition between the “original” werewolf and the “new” werewolf. The question, though, is where does...

Elena asked. I am now. Stefan didn't say it, but Elena knew it was what he was thinking. She could see it in the way he stared at her. She had never been so sure of her power. Except that actually he didn't look as if he were having a good time; he looked stricken, in pain, as if he couldn't take one more minute of this. The band was starting up, a slow dance. He was still staring at her, drinking her in. Those green eyes darkening, going black with desire. She had the sudden feeling that he might jerk her to him and kiss her hard, without ever saying a word. "Would you like to dance?" she said softly. I'm playing with fire, with something I don't understand, she thought suddenly. And in that instant she realized that she was frightened. Her heart began to pound violently. Keats File

...John Keats John Keats (/ˈkiːts/ 31 October 1795 – 23 February 1821) was an English Romantic poet. He was one of the main figures of the second generation of Romantic poets, along with Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley, despite his work having been in publication for only four years before his death.[1] Although his poems were not generally well received by critics during his lifetime, his reputation grew after his death, and by the end of the 19th century, he had become one of the most beloved of all English poets. He had a significant influence on a diverse range of poets and writers. Jorge Luis Borges stated that his first encounter with Keats was the most significant literary experience of his life.[2] The poetry of Keats is characterised by sensual imagery, most notably in the series of odes. This is typical of romantic poets, as they aimed to accentuate extreme emotion through the emphasis of natural imagery. Today his poems and letters are some of the most popular and most analysed in English literature. 1 1.1 Biography Life mask of Keats by Benjamin Haydon, 1816 Early life John Clarke’s school in Enfield, close to his grandparents’ house.
