First, Monica broke up with Isaac before his surgery on the eye. Isaac was explaining to Hazel why Monica broke up with him, saying: “She said she couldn’t handle it… I am about to lose my eyesight and she can’t handle it” (60). When Monica realized that her boyfriend will lose his vision, she became scared and decided not to suffer from dating a blind guy. She chose the easiest way for her – to break up with him and date a healthy guy in the future. Second, between Hazel and her friend Kaitlyn there is a big distance since Hazel got sick. When Hazel with Kaitlyn were in the mall, Kaitlyn saw one horrible pair of shoes and was wondering how it is even possible to wear them: “I mean, I would just die – and then stopped short, looking at me as if it were crime to mention death to the dying” (44). Every time Kaitlyn is talking to Hazel she is afraid to say something superfluous or anything related to cancer and the fact that her friend is dying. As a result, they are not close friends anymore. There are a myriad of stories behind the tragedy and many of them remain untold. In The Fault In Our Stars by John Green, he builds a story out of darkness and despair. He takes the tragedy of cancer and immerses us in the lives of characters that could very well be real. Many know of the heartaches in dealing with those who fight the fight, and many of those scars last a lifetime. He brings his story in the form of a teen girl, Hazel Lancaster. Stricken with cancer from a young age, she believes she has come to terms with what her life has become. Then she meets a young man, Augustus Waters, a survivor of cancer. He is drawn to her in a way that is initially uncomfortable, and as she tries to push him away in her sarcastic vein, he finds her to be exactly the type of girl he has been looking for. Throughout the story there is a beauty and humor, a 'candle in the wind' for each of those whose lives have been touched by such an uncaring disease. For cancer touches not just the victim but all those who love and are in anyway touched by them. Be...

Norway 17.93 Chocolate Consumption Distribution Worldwide Not all countries are able to enjoy the sweet taste of chocolate equally. There is a profound dichotomy between those nations that extract the raw materials and those who indulge in the finished product. As it is shown in the maps available, all but one of the top twenty countries that consume chocolate are considered 'well-developed' or 'advanced'. Brazil is the only country involved on the list that actually considers chocolate to be a natural resource. The reality exists that the processing and consumption of chocolate products is Western World dominated. 70% of the worldwide profit from chocolate sales is concentrated in these countries. 80% of the world chocolate market is accounted for by just six transnational companies, including Nestle, Mars and Cadbury. Europeans alone consume around 40% of the world's cocoa per year, 85% of which is imported from West Africa. There have recently been efforts to initiate a fair-trade movement, which would encourage the purchase of cocoa from developing country producers at a fair price. However, tariff escalation continues to me a major problem, which acts to drive chocolate comsumers and cocoa exporters further apart. Quick Chocolate Facts -16 of the top 20 consuming countries are European -in 2001...

4 P's of Marketing for Starbucks

...Case 29 Starbucks’ Global Quest in 2006: Is the Best Yet to Come? Arthur A. Thompson The University of Alabama Amit J. Shah Frostburg State University Thomas F. Hawk Frostburg State University n early 2006, Howard Schultz, Starbucks’ founder, chairman of the board, and global strategist, could look with satisfaction on the company’s phenomenal growth and market success. Since 1987, Starbucks had transformed itself from a modest nine-store operation in the Pacific Northwest into a powerhouse multinational enterprise with 10,241 store locations, including some 2,900 stores in 30 foreign countries (see Exhibit 1). During Starbucks’ early years when coffee was a 50-cent morning habit at local diners and fast-food establishments, skeptics had ridiculed the notion of $3 coffee as a yuppie fad. But the popularity of Starbucks’ Italianstyle coffees, espresso beverages, teas, pastries, and confections had made Starbucks one of the great retailing stories of recent history and the world’s biggest specialty coffee chain. In 2003, Starbucks made the Fortune 500, prompting Schultz to remark, “It would be arrogant to sit here and say that 10 years ago we thought we would be on the Fortune 500. But we dreamed from day one and we dreamed big.”1 Having positioned Starbucks as the dominant retailer, roaster, and brand of specialty coffees and coffee drinks in North America and spawned the creation of the specialty coffee industry, management’s long-term objective was now to establish...
