...After taking the assessment, I found that my personal learning is based on the “Multivodal” style. I learn, using all of my senses, however, my Aural/ Visual is lacking a few points in comparison with its Read/Write and Kinesthetic counterparts. In order to have the best opportunity to absorb information and retain it, via multiple learning styles, I must make numerous efforts in changing my behavior & thought processes. Taking inventory and fine tuning the stronger learning styles is also imperative in pushing my learning abilities to their limits. Should these steps work, I will have enabled myself with the skills to take in more information and process it in a more efficient manner. I am in total agreement with the VARK assessment. It proves that I have obvious strengths and weaknesses, however, not as great as I suspected. My Visual was a 10, Aural – 11, Read/Write – 13, and Kinesthetic – 14. There is importance in improving on all of my learning styles, but I would like to strengthen the “weaker” of the set, first. Once I handle that, I can then begin to fine tune the rest, and try to keep the learning styles as balanced as I can, creating an optimal learning style and adaptability. As stated earlier, my Aural/Visual styles are in need of improvement. First, I plan on finding alternative methods of study, whether its books on tape, live lectures, seminars, or “how-to” videos. These options force my use of the auditory/visual parts of my brain, thus, helping me learn...

...VARK Analysis Research 1 Individual Learning Styles Lori Mckernan Grand Canyon University: NRS-429V July 30, 2013 VARK Analysis Research 2 Styles of learning vary greatly from person to person. According to VARK there are four basic styles of learning, Visual, Aural, Reading and Written, and Kinesthetic. Using helpful tools like VARK, students are able to figure out what learning style fits those best and enhances their learning experience to the fullest. In order for students to learn and be interested in a topic it is critical to figure out the value and importance of the learning topic given to them. (Kizlik) Doing this allows students to fully understand and benefit what is being taught to them. For this to happen it’s important to figure out one’s learning style. When you attempt to figure out your learning style there are many different books and websites to gain information from. By filling out different questionnaires or taking certain tests you will be able to figure out what learning style fits you best. Are you a Visual learner, or perhaps an auditory learner, maybe a combination of both? Do you learn better when someone gives you directions to read and understand, or do you benefit from a more hands on approach? After all the questions and tests the conclusion is the Reading and writing learning style fits this student best. Some valuable tools to help her learn include lists, dictionaries, handouts, textbooks, notes and library readings. (VARK)...

...VARK Analysis Paper Grand Canyon University Family Centered Health Promotion March 1, 2015 VARK Analysis Paper Every Human Being is created differently and each one has their own unique way of learning and understanding information. Learning style is different for all individuals. Charles Bonwell and Neil Fleming introduced VARK model to categorize learning styles for everyone. VARK stands for Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic. People use different styles to learn in different situations depending on the subjects they are learning. Most people use a combination of learning style called multimodal style of learning. VARK provides people with an indication of their learning preference. There are seminars and workshops to develop skills and improve learning. This paper explains the different types of learning styles and how it can help and influence a person’s learning and understanding. My Learning Preferences My learning preference is Multimodal way of learning. In fact 60% of people prefer this way of learning style and it is one of the most used way of learning styles .while others can effectively learn using any single one of the multiple preferences. Multimodal style learning uses two or more strong preferences. This style of learning or teaching makes the learner easy to understand and capture the attention easier and make it interesting to learn. Also multimodal style can help develop better ability to learn and speed up the understanding. Strategies...

...The VARK Anaylsis: Learning Styles Lesley Good Grand Canyon University Family Centered Health Promotion NRS-429V October 19, 2015 The VARK Analysis: Learning Styles Over the years, research has discovered that the ability for students to learn is based off of an individual’s strengths, weakness, and learning preferences. These learning preferences are divided into five categories: visual, auditory, reading/writing, kinesthetic, and multimodality. The VARK analysis developed in 1987 by Neil Fleming “was the first to systematically present a series of questions with helpsheets for students, teachers, employees, customers, suppliers, and others” (VARK Learn Limited, 2015) to determine an individual’s unique approach to the learning process. “VARK is an acronym for the Visual (V), Auditory (A), Read/Write (R) and the Kinesthetic (K) sensory modalities” (Kharb, Samanta, Jindal, & Singh, 2013). To better understand how this process works we will establish a scenario using Student A, allowing her to access the VARK questionnaire and give us some insight and understanding on how the evaluation process works to establish an individual’s learning style. The VARK questionnaire consists of 16 questions and given the results we will review the learning style for Student A, compare preferred learning strategies to the identified strategies, and discuss how the recognition of individual learning styles, preferences and strategies influence teaching and learning. Summary of Results ...

...VARK Analysis Jose Soco Grand Canyon University: NRS-429V Family-Centered Health Promotion November 10, 2015 VARK Analysis Each individual learns or teaches subjects in their own unique way. VARK is a questionnaire that guides one’s learning and teaching style by suggesting the strategies to use (Introduction to VARK | VARK, n.d.). It consists of 16 questions that will show if an individual learns or educates more efficiently by (V)isual (i.e. pictures, videos, charts/graphs, diagrams, symbols), (A)ural (i.e. listening to lectures/tutorials, discussing topics with others/self), (R)ead/write (i.e. writing notes/essays, reading books/manuals) or (K)inesthetic/tactile (i.e. hands-on experience, field trips, experiments) sensory mode (Introduction to VARK | VARK, n.d.). If a modality isn’t obvious, such a person falls in the category of multimodal. After answering the questionnaire, the learning preference that came up was multimodal style. Multimodal Style When an individual, such as myself, is a multimodal learner, not one single learning modality stands out, rather, the individual employs strategies from all four modalities. There are two types of multimodal learners (Introduction to VARK | VARK, n.d.). Type one uses strategies depending on the situation (Introduction to VARK | VARK, n.d.). For example, “if learning music, auditory learning styles would be preferable; if learning art, visual; if learning to build something, tactile.” (What Is Your Learning Style? Visual...

...VARK Analysis Paper DEENELLA BARRIENTOS GRAND CANYON UNIVERSITY VARK Analysis Paper VARK is a questionnaire that provides users with a profile of their learning preferences (vark-learn.com, n.d., para. 1). Learning styles or preferences can be defined “as the complex manner in which, and conditions in which, learners most efficiently and most effectively perceive, process, store, and recall what they are attempting to learn” (Crannell & Martinez Witte, 2012, p. 2). These preferences then can be used as an advantage to knowing ways to receive and give information. VARK signifies the learning preferences of visual, aural, read/write, and kinesthetic. The VARK questionnaire was developed by Neil D. Fleming to make people aware of the variety of different styles to learning. The questionnaire has 16 simple questions that assist to identify the four categories of learning style. Some people may have two or three learning styles fitting them into the category of multimodal. Approximately 60% of any population fits into this category (vark-learn.com, n.d., para 1). The multimodal learner is able to have the flexibility to adapt to different styles of learning or use their styles in a combination approach to learning. So, depending on the instructor, teaching mode, and learning setting, the multimodal learner is able to identify when to shift between learning styles. The visual learner prefers to use pictures, posters, slides, colors, and diagrams to organize information...

...Reading and Writing Learning Preference Crystal D. Lynch Grand Canyon University NRS 429V November 11, 2012 Learning Style After completing the Vark questionnaire, this author showed a strong preference for learning by reading and writing. In the reading and writing learning preference, this preference is for information displayed as words (Fleming, 2001). Many students and teachers show a high preference toward this type of style. The ability to write, and read well are attributes widely sought by employers of recent graduates. In this learning style, emphasis is on text based input and output, using all forms of material especially manuals, reports, essays and textbooks (Fleming, 2001). People who prefer this model spend hours on the internet, gravitating toward power point presentations over audio presentation. In defining the reading and writing learning strategy, the author identified that the reading and writing learning model uses intake of material in a text-based format. It uses lists, headings, dictionaries, handouts and textbooks as the prime source of intake material. Notes taken during lecture and manuals are also used as a source. When preparing to study, rewriting notes taken during lecture, and reading notes over and over, either out loud or silently, are some strategies used in this type of learning style. When preparing for test assignments or exams, taking practice exams with multiple choice questions is often helpful for students...

...VARK Analysis Learning Style Scott T. Holman Grand Canyon University: NRS-429 June 17, 2014 VARK Analysis Learning Style Learning style is defined as an individual’s natural or habitual pattern of acquiring and processing information in learning situations (James, 1995). Most educational researchers and theorists generally agree that students learn in different ways (Tzu-Chien, 2009). There are many models that address learning styles including Davis A. Kolbs model based on Experiential Learning Theory, Anthony Gregorc’s Model, The Sudbury Model of Democratic Education, and so on. One of the most common and widely used models is Neil Flemming’s VARK model. The VARK model categorizes the types of learning styles as visual, aural, reading & writing, and kinesthetic or tactile. Visual learners are those that have a preference for visual aids such as graphs, diagrams, symbols, charts, etc. Aural learners learn best through lectures, discussions, and recordings. Reading/writing learners prefer text books, manuals, dictionaries and lists. The VARK model also categorizes a fifth learning style termed multimodal. Multimodal learns prefer a combination of the previous mentioned styles such as visual/aural or read & write/aural/kinesthetic. Fleming states that 60% of any population fits into the category of multimodal learners (Flemming, 2011). This authors’ style of learning has always been “read/write”. Through the use of textbook’s, journals, dictionaries, and verbatim...

According to Wikipedia, “a learning style is an individual’s natural or habitual pattern of acquiring and processing information in learning situations.” (Wikipedia, 2010) Wikipedia also notes that the core concept of learning style is that individuals vary in how they learn. (Wikipedia, 2010) Neil Fleming’s VARK Model was developed in 1987 and is now one of the most widely used categorizations of the various types of learning styles. (Wikipedia, 2010) The VARK Model requires completing a questionnaire and places learning styles into four categories: Visual, aural (auditory), read/write, and kinesthetic or tactile. (vark-learn.com) The purpose of this analysis is to determine and evaluate the author’s preferred learning styles, preferred learning strategies, and a comparison of the author’s preferred learning strategies to the identified learning strategies according to the author’s learning style. Also, how the awareness of these learning styles, preferences, and strategies influence teaching and learning. While reading about the author’s learning styles, you may find that some of the mentioned learning styles apply to you as well. Summary of Learning Style Results: The author completed the questionnaire and got the following results: Visual: 3, Aural: 1, Read/Write: 7, and Kinesthetic: 6. The author...

...VARK Analysis Paper Grand Canyon University: NRS-429 April 20, 2014 In Fleming’s model, also known as VARK learning styles, one has the ability to determine their learning preference. There are four learning preferences: auditory, visual, reading and writing and kinesthetic. After completing a questionnaire read and write is the highest score that was received. The read and write learner prefers to take in information that is text based. Read and write learners according to VARK analysis utilize strategies such as: lists, headings, dictionaries, glossaries, definitions, handouts, textbooks, readings, notes, teachers who utilize words well, teachers that include a lot of information in their sentences, notes, essays and manuals (Fleming, 2013). There is no comparison to the preferred learning strategies previously utilized and those that were identified on the VARK analysis tool. The over-abundance of a lecture tends to be tuned out and never has a textbook been read in its entirety even when it’s assigned reading. Though study guides have been used greatly throughout the years for their straight to the point bullets, or relevant small amounts of information. The multi model learner would be something that is more of comparison to the preferred learning strategy. Dependent upon the subject matter a learner may shift between if not two of the learning styles but all four. In a lab setting it is kinesthetic learning performing experiments and looking at things under a microscope...

VARK in an essence is just a questionnaire consisting of 16 questions that will help college students, professors, clients, employers and many more broad varieties of people to learn about each other and even about themselves. VARK helps one find out their preference mode of learning style by answering the questionnaire truthfully. This is an online inventory developed by Neil Fleming in the late 20th century. During this time, the concept of learning modes were popular in the field of psychology but VARK increased the popularity of this concept by the launch of this online innovation that has helped millions of people since then. VARK stands for Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic. VARK helps one identify the best learning mode for an individual and this is help people to create successful education and communication strategies. An individual doesn’t have similar learning preference to the others. Different people have different style that they have adapted to over the years. Some are visual learners, some are aural learners, some are read/write learners, some are kinesthetic learners and some can also be multimodal learners as well. Visual learners prefer the visual holistic view such as pictures, diagrams, models, posters, flowcharts, slides, videos that will help the learner input...

...VARK Analysis Maria Spencer Grand Canyon University Family-Centered Health Promotion NRS-429V Marcy Engebretson July 28, 2013 Vark Analysis It may be necessary to acquire a learning style to change the way an individual learns. This is done by completing a VARK questionnaire. The completion of the questionnaire have resulted in a multi-modal strategic way of learning. The multi-modal option are more resilient in the way they perceive information than those who have a single preference VARK profile. More than one mode of strategy for learning and communicating are utilized. They have a tendency to match their preferences with a specific learning mode(s) used to have a better comprehension of a concept. In Fleming's model, there are four different strategies to learning: visual, aural, read/write and kinesthetic. The Visual approach learn better from a visual perspective. They like the use of gestures and descriptive language from instructors. The application of pictures, posters, slides, diagrams, flow charts, graphs, underlining and highlighting and symbols make them retain information more. An example is the use of cue cards when memorizing for an exam or preparing for a presentation. The Aural approach learn from listening. Some of the ways information is absorbed are tape recorders, explanation of new ideas by describing the overheads, pictures and other visuals to someone and by leaving spaces in their notes to allow for information expansion later. ...

...VARK Analysis: Learning Styles and Strategies Grand Canyon University: NRS-429V VARK Analysis: Learning Styles and Strategies A learning style is one’s distinctive method of learning depending on his/her strengths, weaknesses and choices. People are more receptive to learning through different modalities. Some people learn better through visual aids or listening. Others gain more knowledge through reading and writing or using more of a hands-on approach. Use of any of these methods will facilitate learning if it is your preferred learning style. VARK, which is an acronym for Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic, “is a questionnaire that helps your learning by suggesting the strategies you should be using” (Fleming, 2011). The VARK questionnaire asks a series of 16 multiple choice questions that you may answer with more than one choice. Upon completion of the questionnaire, a scoring chart is used to find the VARK category that each of your answers matches with. The score is then calculated by counting the amount of each of the VARK letters. The category with the highest score is the preferred learning style. Not one learning styles is better than the other. It is simply an individual preference that works best for different people. This paper will discuss the different styles of learning, including the preferred learning style and strategies, and how the awareness of one’s learning styles, preferences and strategies influence teaching and learning. ...VARK Analysis Paper Jasell Wilson-Ferguson Grand Canyon University: NRS-429V-0500 June 14, 2015 VARK Analysis Paper Not all learners are the same. Each individual has a complex system and unique way of thinking and learning. Nurses encounter a population that is broad and diverse across the board. Nurses must be able to adapt and decipher the best ways of connecting with the client, to facilitate learning and understanding of needed knowledge and/or skills. Learning styles are different and unique ways used by individuals as they prepare to learn and recall information (Ranganath, 2015). A tool that can be used to assess and assist with figuring out the preferred learning style for a student and/or client, is the VARK questionnaire. This is a system that was developed by Neil Fleming in 1987. The VARK questionnaire consists of 16 questions with four options to choose from for each question. More than one option may be chosen. The questionnaire is then scored V, A, R, K. Based on the scoring, the questionnaire decipher a student’s preferred learning style. The VARK system addresses learning styles, and gives strategies that promote learning more effectively. VARK identifies four predominant learning styles; (V) visual, (A) aural, (R) reading/writing, and (K) kinesthetic. When used in various combinations, the learner’s preferred learning style is described as multimodal (VARK, 2015). As described by Fleming, a visual learner is someone who learns...

...VARK Analysis Is there more than one way to learn? Is there more than one way to teach? Does everybody retain information the same way? These are all question that I never really put much thought into until taking the VARK questionnaire. I will refer to myself as Study A throughout this essay. After taking the VARK quiz, Study A realized that she has a multimodal learning preference. What does that mean? That means that she learns in many different ways and forms. Study A received the highest score in Kinesthetic form of learning followed by Aural, Reading and writing and visual forms of learning. Study A is enlightened to be more aware of her own study habits and also aware that everybody learns differently. The objective of my essay is to discuss “Study A’s” learning style, learning strategies, and how awareness of these different learning approaches should aid teachers and learners. Multimodal learning means the more different ways you learn something, the more you will learn it, understand it and remember it. Study A learns best when different teaching approaches are given to her. She needs to apply kinesthetic ways of teaching meaning she needs to have senses, practical exercises, examples, cases, and trial and error. Study A also needs Aural ways of teaching meaning she needs listening, discussing, talking, questioning, recalling. Study A also use reading and writing as a way of learning meaning she needs lists, notes and text in all its formats and whether in...
