VARK Analysis

Is there more than one way to learn? Is there more than one way to teach? Does everybody retain information the same way? These are all question that I never really put much thought into until taking the VARK questionnaire. I will refer to myself as Study A throughout this essay. After taking the VARK quiz, Study A realized that she has a multimodal learning preference. What does that mean? That means that she learns in many different ways and forms. Study A received the highest score in Kinesthetic form of learning followed by Aural, Reading and writing and visual forms of learning. Study A is enlightened to be more aware of her own study habits and also aware that everybody learns differently. The objective of my essay is to discuss “Study A’s” learning style, learning strategies, and how awareness of these different learning approaches should aid teachers and learners.

Multimodal learning means the more different ways you learn something, the more you will learn it, understand it and remember it. Study A learns best when different teaching approaches are given to her. She needs to apply kinesthetic ways of teaching meaning she needs to have senses, practical exercises, examples, cases, and trial and error. Study A also needs Aural ways of teaching meaning she needs listening, discussing, talking, questioning, recalling. Study A also use reading and writing as a way of learning meaning she needs lists, notes and text in all its formats and whether in print or online. Study A will also find visual ways of learning useful meaning she may need different formats, space, graphs, charts, diagrams, maps and plans.
