Learning styles is a term used to refer to the methods of gathering, processing, interpreting, organizing and thinking about information. Students have different learning styles, which is the reason for the diversity seen in classrooms in regards to how students acquire information (Khanal, 2014, p.1). My personal learning style is multimodal, meaning I require using both visual and kinaesthetic sensory modes to learn information. Visual intake such as gestures from the speaker, pictures, labelled diagrams, shapes, and many highlights used in text assist in conveying information to the learner. Kinaesthetic learning is the accompanying modality I require. It uses real life examples, experiences, applications, and simulation for teaching. I totally agree with both of these learning modalities. When someone is trying to get a point across, or teach me, I must picture it in my head and also many times I try to use it in a real life scenario for understanding. Many times I have said to the teacher “So I would use this in this situation”, and then describe exactly step by step specifically when to do a certain action. At work when we are taught how to use new equipment I visualize it being used, when to use it, clarify with them verbally that I am correct in my understanding, and then I will even use the equipment or product step by step in front of the person teaching me. If all of these steps have taken place, then learning has been accomplished. However, if I am simply told how to use a piece of equipment or product but I don’t see it, use it, feel it with my hands, or push the buttons, etc. I have noticed that the teaching is not effective. I have to revisit the entire process again later and learn my way, using visual and kinaesthetic modalities for successful learning. When I was
