...butts its head against the door. With one massive push, the door bursts open and the Velociraptor enters the kitchen where Lex and Tim Murphy are hiding. The kids sit in silence as another Velociraptor enters the room; the raptors roar at each other as if they were communicating. Lex and Tim scamper behind an adjacent counter as the Velociraptors begin to sweep the room, their enlarged claws clicking on the tiles of the floor. Visibly frightened, Lex and Tim tremble as one of the beasts peers its head over the island they cowered behind. Luckily for them, it senses nothing and clicks onward. Then, as if by accident, the raptors massive, muscular tail sweeps across the countertop and sends pots and pans crashing on top of the kids. Lex shrieks as they both dart behind yet another row of counters, but it seems that the raptors take no notice over the crashes and clangs of the pans. It seems they have evaded their predators until Tim flattens himself to the side of cupboard accidentally knocking over a ladle, which seems to stop time on its way to the hard, thunderous ground. Immediately as the utensil makes its deafening ring, both dinosaurs are on the attack: one leaps upon a table as the other makes its way around to the sound of the noise. Lex beckons Tim to follow her to the opposite side, but Tim is frozen in fright. He instantly regrets his decision, though, as one Velociraptor roars as it comes upon the ladle. After their brief inspection of the spoon, they...

...Just an ordinary day, in my redundant life, filled with unoriginal people in a monotonous world. If I were to describe my life in one sentence, I think this would be a very accurate description. At the end of another underwhelming work day, I enter my room, slam the door, toss my jacket against the wall and slump face first onto my bed. Groaning, I turn toward the ceiling, staring at the same fan I have been staring at for the last seven years, along with the agonizing creaking noise it makes after every rotation. I see myself personified by that fan; going around in circles, wincing after every circle made, until people learn to eventually drown out the noise. After graduating college, I felt the “real world” was mine to conquer, to climb to the top and thrust my flag in for all to admire. I still remember moving in to my new place seven years ago. My parents gave me enough money to lees out a place of my own, as a sort of graduation present. The first night I slept in my new apartment, on my new mattress, the only thing I could think about was how this was a stepping stone for the start of my legacy. My eyes closed, I think about those times and feel my face cracking into a grin, the naivety of youth coupled with dreams of stars and fluff. I recall setting my sights lower and lower as time went by, to where I am at now- your average pencil pusher from nine to five. I open my eyes and look at my bedside clock, eight-thirty it tells me. I go wash up a bit and decide on eating...

...dinosaurs they agree to see what he has in plan. John Hammond, owner of InGen turned the island, Isla Nublar, into a dino zoo called Jurassic Park, with his cloned dinos. Tim and Lex Murphy, John’s grandchildren were brought along to the park, though it was certainly dangerous with the cloned dinos. A rival company tried to steal dino embryos, which lead to the park’s malfunction. With the park’s security systems down, a T. rex breaks loose killing one visitor and injuring another. Alan Grant, Lex and Tim managed the T. rex, but is now stranded on the island, they try to head back to the lodge, but the by the time they got back the velociraptors have escaped their cell, and is now loose on the island. The raptors surround the lodge killing everyone but the kids and Grant, Tim manages to get the power back on, reactivating the electric fence before the velociraptors could break through. The Costa Rican National Guard show, and rescues Alan, Ellie and the kids, blowing up the...

... The true theme is almost shown straight forward during the helicopter ride to the island when Dr. Malcolm states, “John doesn't subscribe to Chaos, particularly what it has to say about his little science project!” (Koepp 19) pitting him against Hammond. These two are the most obvious players in the chaos game, but Dr. Sattler against Dr. Grant and the Tyrannosaurus Rex (T. rex) against the Velociraptors (Raptors) are also players. The other characters do not have as defined roles but still play into the game. They all have a common theme: Chaos vs. Order. Most of the main characters arrive on the island on the same helicopter. The first view inside shows Hammond, Dr. Sattler, and Dr. Grant on the right with Dr. Malcolm and Gennaro on the left. This scene shows who is on which side of the line, but Hammond’s and Dr. Malcolm’s conflict with each other is most prevalent. Hammond is wearing all white while Dr. Malcolm is, “dressed all in black” (Koepp 18) adding visual representation of the polar difference between chaos and order. Chaos and order is the root topic during the Velociraptor birth and lunch scene. Dr. Sattler and Dr. Grant debate which will win in the end but Dr. Malcolm and Hammond have already made up their minds. Chaos is thrown its first blow when Dr. Malcolm is hurt by the T. rex. He starts to be less of an apostle of chaos and starts to wish for a bit of order. When Hammond gets Dr. Sattler lost looking for the power box, Dr. Malcolm is able to decipher the...

...Angel Cruz Rasmussen Ap English III 05/20/16 Aristotelian Argument #3 Jerry Seinfeld once defined people like me, neatly, as those who would be "better off in the casket than doing the eulogy" and I was touched that (according to One Poll's findings) more than half of us feel this way. Yes, public speaking is "really that scary" if you consider the forced attention of a crowd a punishment and not a prize. I can't have been the only one to shiver when Lauren Laverne a pro! muddled her last speech at the Mercury awards on Wednesday, announcing that the winner was James Blunt, not James Blake. What chance does the amateur have of making it through an address without humiliation? Everyone's fears are personal, particular and I suspect quietly cherished. When you're a kid a fear is almost a badge of honour; it helps you begin to define yourself. I can still list my earliest friends and what they were afraid of heights, spiders, Ursula from The Little Mermaid. At that age my stated fear was sharks, and public speaking was easy. I wanted the speaking parts in school plays and then suddenly puberty – it became unthinkable to stand up and say words in front of an audience. For a clear 15 years, from speaking at funerals and at classes , I managed to avoid it. Two years ago, at a wedding, I saw a man give as much of his brain as he feasibly could to feelings of joy, and love of, and the rest, I'm afraid, that I may be lost to terror about a speech. ...frogs. Dennis Nedry, was bribed to steal dinosaur embryos for a rival of Hammond. When Nedry shuts down the park's security system, the park's other systems start to malfunction. Nedry is killed by an escaped dinosaur on his way to the docks, where he planned to deliver the embryos to a ship. The power outage left Grant, Malcolm, the park publicist Ed Regis, and Hammond's grandchildren, Tim and Lex, stuck in their tour cars outside the trex paddock. Lex notices that some dinosaurs got on the ship that had left the island. Grant turns on the generator to bring power to the fences keeping the dinosaurs in. Tim manages to reactivate the electric fences and calls the supply ship, and Gennaro commands the ship to turn around because of the velociraptors that have jumped aboard. The Costa Rican National Guard take everyone away, and blow up the island. The major scientific theme in Jurassic Park is the Dangers of Biotechnology and Computers. ...The Cambrian Period is in the Paleozoic Era. The Paleozoic Era was known as the "Age of Marine Life." This "Age of Marine Life" all began with what is called the "Cambrian Explosion." The "Cambrian Explosion" happened roughly 542 million years ago and obviously took place during the Cambrian Period. It was when most of the major groups of marine animals appeared in a relatively short period of time. According to fossil records, Bryozoa, algae, sponge (porfera), Arthropoda (trilobita), Mollusks (plecypoda, gastropoda, cephalopoda), and corals first appeared all in the Cambrian Period. The Ordovician Period followed the Cambrian Period, and this is when some of the first brachiopods appeared, such as clams, snails, and cephalopods. Also, ostracoderms, jawless armored fish, were the earliest vertebrates that appeared in this time period. "Typical Ordovician fish had large bony shields on the head, small, rod-shaped or platelike scales covering the tail, and a slitlike mouth at the anterior end of the animal" (www.ucmp.berkeley.edu). During the Silurian, there was a widespread radiation of crinoids, a continued proliferation and expansion of the brachiopods, and the oldest known fossils of coral reefs. There was also the appearances the first known freshwater fish. And finally, the first record of life on land! Fossil records show a group of fungi on land, and also arachnids and centipedes. According to www.ucmp.berkeley.edu, "Most Silurian plant fossils have...

...Allosaurus due to the extensive evidence from the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry [3]. Furthermore, Allosaurus is classified as a theropod but also has four other species to date: A. amplus, A. europaeus, A. fragilis, and A. lucasi [16]. Remains found in Utah, Montana, New Mexico, and South Dakota have led to the identification of A. amplus and A. lucasi. A. europaeus was found in Portugal in the Lourinha Formation [14]. Moreover, many fossils and bones of A. fragilis were found in the Cleveland-Lloyd Quarry in the mid-1900s. Therefore, the most well-known and studied species of Allosaurus has been A. fragilis. Allosaurus is part of the subgroup, Theropoda along with large carnivorous dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus Rex, Spinosaurus, Velociraptor, and more. Allosaurus possessed large hindlegs and smaller forelimbs, similar structures to that of Tyrannosaurus Rex. Although not as large as other dinosaurs that dominated the Late Jurassic, Allosaurus had razor-like teeth that made it a deadly predator. Furthermore, one of the most distinct features of Allosaurus was its pair of horns located above its eyes. Due to the amount of evidence found for Allosaurus, paleontologists have learned more about its feeding habits. The discovery of other fossils has also helped people to understand Allosaurus behavior better. For example, a wound similar in shape to an Allosaurus snout, found in a Stegosaurus fossil, has confirmed that Allosaurus had a carnivorous diet and took down larger prey...

...Quantifying Hardware Selection in an FTK 4.0 Environment Introduction and Background The purpose of this analysis is to evaluate the relative effectiveness of individual hardware component selection in the FTK 4.0 environment. While it is useful to document the individual hardware components which result in maximum performance, it is also important to identify those components which provide the best value. This effort is part of an ongoing commitment by Digital Intelligence to assist customers in making educated choices when selecting individual components for their forensic workstations. Approach Four basic steps were used to evaluate the application’s resource requirements. Step 1 (Establish Test Environment): A suite of tests was developed for the application. These tests were intended to represent the demands of a typical forensic examination. These tests were then automated in order to provide accurate and repeatable recording of results. Step 2 (I/O Channel Evaluation): The automated test suite was then used to determine the basic configuration of the I/O channels. As a starting point, the application manufacturer recommends up to 5 I/O channels: 1.) 2.) 3.) 4.) 5.) Operating System Casework Database Cache/TempDB Evidence A demonstrated ability to combine two or more of these I/O channels could easily result in a less expensive and more manageable configuration. Evaluation of the I/O channel requirements would be essential in determining an optimal I/O configuration...

...Interestingly, there is a group of living plants - the whisk ferns - which resembles Rhynia. Psilotum nudum which grows in moist, shady habitats in the Caribbean is such a plant. At one time, Psilotum was thought to be a surviving relative of Rhynia. It is, however, more generally thought to be a Fern Ally, related to the Ferns, with loss of features such as leaves and roots. Event 13 “IN SEARCH OF THE LOST CHORDATE” FINDING THE ANCESTOR OF VERTEBRATES (AND OURSELVES) 530 million years ago The Cambrian explosion created all the major phyla of animals that we have today. This includes the phyla Chordata (chordates). Primitive forms are creatures with evidence of a notochord, a structural rod of cartilage and neural tissue running down the long axis of the body. This notochord was the early precursor to the spine in vertebrates (animals with a true backbone, like fish), and modern examples of simple chordates include sea squirts and lancelets. Two Cambrian fossil localities are of key importance here: Chengjiang in Yunnan Province, southern China, and the Burgess Shales in the British Columbia Rockies of Canada. Both of these localities have produced fossils classified as chordates. The Chinese forms include the forms Myllokunmingia and Haikouichthys (it has even been suggested these could be primitive vertebrate jawless fish). The Canadian form (somewhat later in the Cambrian period) is Pikaia, which especially resembles the modern lancelet. Event 15 “GET OUT OF THE...
