BACKGROUND: Lakewood Church provides for online registration as an option for attendees of its many events, where individuals are allowed to sign up for attendance and sign a release waiver online. Currently a person is allowed to sign up another adult for the registration process. This second adult is then sent an email to verify this registration and allow them to sign their own waiver.

ISSUE:
Issue #1: Whether a release signed by one person (parent or spouse) will be effective if the other does not sign?
Issue #2: Whether there is a legal requirement that an email be sent to confirm the registration of the second person?

CONCLUSION:
Issue #1: A release signed by one individual does not extinguish a non-releasing party’s independent cause of action.
Issue #2: There is no legal requirement for a confirmation email to be sent for registration to events.
