Viceroys, a brand of cigarettes that filter the smoke. Even your dentist on the right says he would recommend Viceroys. Also, in the center there is a Viceroy cigarette that shows how it filters the smoke, with the end being a filter, to take out the chemicals of tobacco and nicotine in the cigarette. But in reality Viceroys was adding nicotine for smokers to become more and more addicted to them so that all the people buying Viceroys, young and old, would continue buying the Viceroy cigarettes for the constant need of nicotine.

Ethos is the appeal of ethics and convincing someone by the character of the persuader. An example of ethos in this ad is the dentist. The dentist says that he would recommend the Viceroys cigarettes, so this, makes the audience feel like that since the dentist recommends, it will be good to do what he says. Logos is the appeal of logic and persuading by reasoning. Logos is used when the ad says they Viceroys filter the smoke, which with reasoning the tip of the Viceroy cigarette contains two hundred filters. As a visual for the logos appeal, in the center of the ad is a picture of the Viceroy cigarette with the outer paper unwrapped and the audience is able to see the content inside of the cigarette and also the two hundred filters that you breath through. This makes the audience feel like they aren’t getting all of the chemicals from the cigarettes into their body. Pathos is the appeal of emotion, which causes an emotional response from the audience. I believe there isn’t a pathos appeal in this ad because there isn’t anything said that would make the audience emotional about Viceroy
