The dehumanization of women has always existed, but it seems to be more evident in today’s society due to all the media outlets that there are. Media of all sorts exist in the modern day, ranging from the physical world, such as magazines and posters, to the virtual world of commercials and video advertisements. These acts of dehumanization are posted up and seen on every magazine stand to every commercial viewed on YouTube that one passes by. In today’s society, the media dehumanizes women by dictating their roles, looks, and future, thus painting a picture of what is known as their ideal woman.

Take Victoria’s Secret “The Perfect Body” advertisement for example, which includes ten petite women with big breasts and long, slim legs, typically those who fit into society’s stereotype versus those who petitioned against this slogan. Although Victoria’s Secret is a brand that sells under garments, clothes, and accessories for women their advertisements seem to be disturbing to some. This picture shows everything that society wants from a woman physically, for them to be half naked with a toned stomach, big breasts, and long legs which is exactly why there was a petition in place that was requesting the company to apologize for this ad. Society as a whole expects women to eat less and workout more and to look how the women in this ad look, just to be accepted, putting a lot of stress on those who looked differently than the models. Slogans such as the one partnered with the ad not only criticize the women who have nice thighs or curves, they also form a way of thinking within these women who are society’s definition of imperfect, one in which they start to think less of themselves, self-hate because they aren’t being accepted for being as they are which is even more evident in another source of media,
