Video Summary 2
Video 1.04 In this video it talks about motherboards and various types of motherboards as well as the different shapes and sizes of them
3 Main Form Factors:
ATX Form Factor
• Replaced older AT form factor
• Smaller
• Better organization
• Easier to work on
• Support for wide variety of I/O Devices
• Soft power switch
• Wake on LAN feature o Configured in CMOS o Keyboard activity o Network activity
BTX Form Factor
• Better airflow for better cooling o Intake vent in front o Exhaust vent in back o CPU Heat sink fins and memory modules installed parallel to air flow
NLX Form Factor
• Supports riser cards o Fits into expansion slots o Provides Connectors for additional expansion cards o Also known as “daughter boards”
Communication Buses
• Buses o Appears as copper traces o Connects various components o Allows delivery of power and data
• System Bus o Largest bus o Fastest Bus o Connects motherboard to CPU
• Most Important Connectors o P1 Power o 40-Pin IDE o 34-Pin Floppy drive o SATA o 50 or 68-pin SCSI
• Expansion Slots o 8-bit ISA (used in older computers) o 16-bit ISA (next generation) o MCA (after ISA) o EISA (after MCA) o Vesa Local Bus (After EISA) o PCI (Faster and present expansion slot) o PCIx (Faster than PCI) o PCIe (express, fastest expected to replace AGP) o AGP (High Speed alternative to PCI , used for video) o PCI (white and longer) o AGP (brown and shorter)
Today’s Motherboards can’t have both AGP and PCI Slots they will have either several PCI slots and one AGP slot or several PCI slots and one PCIe slot At the end of this presentation, I learned a lot about PCI and AGP slots as well as motherboards. I knew the basics but this video taught me the in depths of the motherboard its crazy how much is on one motherboard.

Nt1110 Unit 4 Assignment Video Summary

...Deborah Collins NT110 – Prof Whitehead Unit 4. Assignment Video 04/14/14 Motherboards come in several form-factors. When building a system, it is important to know what it will be used for before purchasing. Two of the most important parts need to be considered before the system is built – the CPU and the motherboard. There are several different types of CPUs and motherboards, so care should be taken that the CPU can be seated on the motherboard. Also, think about what the computer will be used for. General users will not need a top of the line system for browsing the web, email, social networking and word processing types applications, so a “bare-bones” type of computer may be a better selection. Systems used for gaming, video editing or high end graphics will need to have other considerations such as a higher end graphics card, more RAM and better than average cooling. Video 1.04: Motherboards: Most important considerations: Motherboard CPU Form Factor: ATX form factor motherboards Replaced the older AT form factor. Unit 4 Assignment 1 Video Summary

...Motherboards The motherboard represents the logical foundation of the computer. Everything on the computer must be connected to the motherboard. When building a computer you must first decide what Motherboard or what CPU you will use, because your Motherboard will tell you what CPU you should buy and vise-versa. In that note, you can’t buy a case without your Motherboard selected, the size and shape of your case are determined by the form factor of your Motherboard. Form Factors: ATX * ATX replaced the older AT because of its more compact design and it’s better organized which makes it easier to work on. * ATX support 20 pin P1 connector and the newer 24 pin P1 Connector. * Supports 2 IDE Connectors and will probably have 1 or 2 SATA connectors * Soft Power Switch which allows for the PC to go through the shutdown process by not immediately shutting off when button pressed. BTX * This Form Factor is compatible with all of the ATX functions including the 20 and 24 pin connector * It was designed for better airflow with an intake vent on the front and Exhaust vent on the back, to work with this design CPU and Memory is installed parallel which creates better cooling for the CPU(No blocked airflow). NLX * Supports Riser cards. These are cards that connect to the motherboard expansion slots to allow connection of additional expansion cards. * Riser cards are also known as Daughter cards BUSES * The copper traces you find on the bottom...

Unit 6 Assignment 1: Video Summary 4 ( Raid )

...Alberto Legra 01/28/2016 Unit 6 Assignment 1: Video summary 4 (RAID) 1. URL Of video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE7Bfw9lFfs 2. Summary of video. In this video we learn the meaning of raid, what it does, and how to efficiently configure raid arrays. RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks. The three most common types of RAID; RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 10. Different raid configurations offer different advantages, like speed and reliability. RAID 0 is all about speed, by striping the data across 2 drives you can keep all of the capacity and double the read and write performance. However, RAID 0 provides no reliability, if one of your drives fail you will all of your data. RAID 1 in the other hand provides maximum reliability, but no performance increase. When both performance and reliability are needed, there is the option for a RAID 10 configuration. To configure a RAID 10 array, you need four drives, stripe the data on all four drives and mirror two against two. This RAID configuration allows you to get about double the performance and capacity of an individual drive, and you can lose up two drives without losing any data. 3. 3 topics mentioned in the video. * The meaning of RAID * Pros and cons of RAID configurations * How to configure RAID 4. 3 terms used in the video and their definitions. * Data striping: The technique of segmenting logically sequential data, such as a file. * RAID: Data storage virtualization technology...
