...According to Dr. Kalam, a creative leader must have following characteristics: a) A vision beyond himself where he quoted the examples of Mr. M. S. Swaminathan and P. Subramanium who made the green revolution a stunning success. The leader must also have the passion to realise the vision he envisaged. b) He should travel along the unexplored path. The unknown story of how Vikram Sarabhai worked in setting up of the Tumba space research station at a densely populated and religiously important place in Kerala through the combined participation of politics, religion, and science was elaborated as an example of the same. Understanding the importance of the setting up of the space station at a scientifically strategic location like Tumba, the Kerala Chief Minister directed him to The Bishop Rev. Fr. Peter Perreira. After an intense discussion with the Bishop he advised Sarabhai to attend mass the very next day which was a Sunday. As a surprise to Sarabhai the bishop addressed the local fisher folk on the importance of setting up of the space station by telling them how science has helped mankind. Without any compulsion the entire congregation responded by saying "Amen". It was a new kind of management system which has happened only in India. c) The leader should know to manage success and failure and the courage to take decisions. He shared a personal experience where Mr.Satish Dhawan, Former Chairman of ISRO had entrusted Dr. Kalam with the task of building India's first satellite...

...Shankar, who wears his commercial tag like a medallion, has an addiction for making big commercial films. While he's been quite successful at it all these years, it has slowly started to have an adverse effect on his films to the extent that even the presence of a bankable star, say Vikram, doesn't add much value to the output. In his much anticipated film I, Shankar proves that only he can take a wafer thin story and turn it into something outlandishly beautiful yet complex, leaving you with an afterthought - "Why can't he ever make smaller films for a change?" Mostly known for making message-oriented films in which the hero singlehandedly takes on the system, Shankar attempts to tell a romantic tale in his latest offering, said to be made at a budget of over Rs 100 crore. Vikram plays a bodybuilder, Lingesan, who idolises Arnold Schwarzenegger and supermodel Diya, played by Amy Jackson. If the posters of Arnold decorate the walls of his lower middle class home and his gym (which is named after Arnold), there's a box full of women's products endorsed by Diya in his bedroom. In a funny scene, when he's caught red-handed by his friend and asked what he is going to do with all the products (holding a pack of sanitary napkin), Lingesan nonchalantly says he will use it as a pillow. In these refreshing initial moments, Shankar helps us understand that Lingesan has extreme liking for Diya but doesn't love her yet because of their social and cultural divide. There's a...

Decisions should never be solely based on a tempting idea; aftermaths are needed to be analyzed as well. The collapse of banking sector added more misery to Citigroup’s condition. Adverse consequences for global economy further exposed the lack of a proper business model to follow and the need to focus on individual units rather than putting hands in everything else. Q2. ...Summary of A Doctor’s Journal Entry for August 6, 1945 by Vikram Seth A Doctor’s Journal Entry for August 6, 1945 by Vikram Seth is a remarkable poem describing the horrors of the aftermath of an atomic bomb explosion. This tragic poem describes the condition of the survivors of the atomic bombing by the United States on Hiroshima during the end of the World War II on 6th of August 1945. The narrator in the poem, A Doctor’s Journal Entry for August 6, 1945, is a doctor. The poem begins with a calm and serene note. The doctor says that it was dawn and he was in his bed, not fully clothed. When he stretched out and looked outside, he saw shining leaves and shadows. In the next moment, there were two sudden flashes of strong light and the old stone lantern in his room lit up by itself. The doctor wondered whether the flashes were magnesium flares seen during a war. In the next moment, the doctor finds out that the roof and wall of his building has collapsed and the debris were scattered all over. Dust covered up the whole place and clothes disappeared from his body. They were burnt. The doctor was wounded on his cheek, thigh and he was bleeding. A piece of glass had entered into his body which he removes ‘detachedly.’ He was wondering what suddenly took place and what had happened to him. The narrator called out his wife, ‘where are you, Yecko-san?’ Yecko-san looked pale, frightened and had blood stains on her body. The doctor assures his wife that they would be fine and they...

...Mary Ma: Sept 11' BFA Filmmaking - Track B Cultural Mythology and World Religions – Extra Credit Assignment The Power of Illusion 'Kumaré' Kumaré is a documentary about a man who impersonates a wise Indian Guru and starts to build a following. Vikram Gandhi's experiment has been criticized as immoral, many others do agree with his philosophy and “teachings”. The experiment had simply grown out of his control by the time he could reveal his true self. Kumaré's followers in the documentary claimed to be comforted by his energy and presence. There was something about him that drew others to him. People said that he was giving and was willing to spend most of his time trying to help others. But what if it were all for show? When Vikram began his transformation to the all knowing Guru Kumaré he was, in his words “just curious”. This harmless curiosity and openness to the subject may have been exactly what drew his followers to him (That, and he looked the part). He did not set off on a journey to become rich or famous as they suggested was why some other people became Gurus. Vikram went to other established spaces to learn their methods of teaching and incorporated his findings into his own teaching. He also legitimized himself in the eyes of his followers by performing rituals and making up prayers and chants. The identity he adopted was actually the man he wished he could be. Vikram's act became real and he turned into some spiritual placebo that made a great impact...

...Evaluation on pasta When I cooked my pasta I forgot some of my ingredients therefore I had to use my initiative and cooked it the way that I thought would be best to complement all the ingredients that I had brought with me in the end it all turned out alright this is reflected in the star profiles of when other people tasted it. Next time I cook it I might add either tuna or meatballs this will enhance the flavours and also give it more depth taste wise. When I was presenting my pasta I put them in the middle of my plate and arranged them so that they were in a square in the middle, after that I got a piece of tissue and wiped the edges of the plate where there was some sauce. I did this so that my dish looked professional and more appealing to the eye. In the lesson I had set my self a time frame so that I would have enough time to clean the dishes. My time frame was thirty minutes which I abided by and ended up finishing 15 minutes early which was a strength because I got more time to finish cleaning up my area. The recipe was easy to follow because the steps were clear and easy to read this is because the language used in the text was not too formal. When other people tasted my food they complemented me on the use of Italian herbs, I got no criticism, which I was pleased with. I would say that some of my strengths were that I used my initiative and used the ingredients that I had and I did not let forgetting some of the ingredients affect the final product (pasta dish). Both these approaches are still followed in the managing of the present world Economies. Figure 1. As seen above, Neo classical approach lasted several years before the Great Depression, but was revived once again after the period of stagflation when the Keynesian approach failed to improve the economic condition. The Neo Classists approach influenced by Adam Smith and others with reference to the ‘invisible hand theory’ (Jones, 2013) stated that the “market is best left alone and that it will adjust and clear itself and hence finding its own macro-equilibrium.” (Jones, 2013) Keynes suggested that this is not realistic approach and that “government intervention is needed for the market to reach its macro-equilibrium.” (Jones, 2013) The Neo Classical...

...New Leaders of Financial Giants – Case of Citi Group and Merrill Lynch: Question 1: Introduction This report will review the precarious positions of Citigroup Inc. and Merrill Lynch at the beginning of the subprime mortgage crisis. Both companies had been hit hard by the recent economic problems, and both had recently hired new management in an attempt to navigate through these difficult times. Since risk management failures were viewed as the primary catapult of the crisis, the thinking was that managers with risk management experience would be able to introduce innovative techniques to improve the respective company’s positions. The report will analyze some of the solutions that were proposed, and attempt to apply options analysis through binary trees to quantify these proposals. The Subprime Mortgage Crisis of 2008 Before analyzing the current predicaments of the two companies in the report, an understanding of the subprime mortgage crisis (which includes a discussion on MBS’s and CDO’s) is necessary. The borrowers or homeowners make monthly payments to the services. These payments include both principal and interest components. The servicer transfers these payments to Mortgage Backed Security Holders or the investors after deducting some spread which can be viewed as profit margin or...
