Social norms are customs that we are conditioned to percieve as ordinary. Social norms have their pupose in our society. One can look at social norms as being favorable or unfavorable. I personally think that social norms are often a positive thing as they help keep us in order. For this paper I decided to violate a social norm that is derived from folkways. Folways are common demeanors related to rituals and triditions of a certain society. The norm that I choose to violate for this paper required me to cut into the middle of a line by myelf and stay in line for atleast 2 minutes. Conformity can be positive or negative depending on what the person is conforming to. In my personal experience from the social norm violation that I executed, I think that I conform to a lot of social norms with out even reflecting upon it. On a daily baises from the moment I wake up, the first thing I usually conform to is; wait for my siblings to use the bathroom, I wait for my turn. Afterwards I usually conform while I am driving (driving at a safe speed, letting other pass me, letting pedestrians cross, etc..). Conformity also comes into play when I study at the library ( I follow library rules such as; being quite, not conuming any food at the library and providing my college ID when borrowing books). After reflecting upon my experience with the social norm, I recognize that I wouould'nt be accepted by society I dident conform with all the situations stated above, For example If i were to drive above the speed limit I would be breaking a set of norms called Laws which would ultimetly result in a speeding ticket or even incarsaration. A vital lesson I learned from this experience is that fact that I conform to social norms on a daily basis to be accepted by society. Devient acts and nonconformity can result in unacceptance and sometimes even harsher punishment depenting upon the
