“No man is born too strong to fight a battle , its the circumstances that change him and make him do what he thought he was incapable of”

Star Cast: Virudhh starring Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, Mrs. Sharmila Tagore , John Abraham , Mr. Sanjay Dutt
PLOT
This entire story is a narrative from the point of view of Amar (John) who is all set to return to his home after studying abroad for a few years. The movie opens with a joyous scene of a happy couple Mr. Vidhyadhar Patwardhan (Amitabh Bachachan) and his wife Mrs. Sumitra Patwardhan (Sharmila Tagore) whose love is not a parameter of their age. They are very excited to welcome their son back. Amar secretly plans with his father about how to bring his girlfriend along. Amar returns with Jenny (Anushka) who is welcomed by the family.
On the night of his birthday the family plans to surprise Amar, so they send him to a party. Meanwhile they decorate the home and are merry making. The family is taken aback by the sudden news of Amar being killed in a shooting spree.Amar was killed by the son of famous minister.
The movie revolves around Vidhyadhar Patwardhan’s fight for justice for his only son.

ACTING
In terms of acting this is one of the finest work of Mr. Bachchan. The whole act of a cheerful, friendly prankster father to a helpless, agonized vengeful father is pulled off greatly by him. He is not just a father, but a devoted husband who keeps track of entire medication of his wife. There is another funny side to him where he is the frustrated neighbour of a car repairing centre and is highly irritated by the noises they produce. Mr. Bachachan has shown exemplary performance bringing anyone to tears. In most monologues his eyes do the talking. The way he emotes each and every scene leaves the audience craving for more. They cry with him, they laugh with him
Moving onto Mrs.Sharmila Tagore, she slips into the role of a doting mother comfortably. She is rigid Indian house wife who wouldn’t want a foreigner daughter in law but then gracefully embraces her when she finds her Indian at heart. She holds so many emotions yet appears calm on her surface to pacify her saddened husband.
Mr. Sanjay Dutt has a small but pivotal role in the movie. As a car mechanic with a robust and intimidating presence he still manages to make us smile. He has supported the main cast like a pillar with his presence. In scenes with Mr. Bachchan he catches the eye of the audience like his second son. The journey of dislike to pure love is so heart warming that it leaves a smile.
Mr. John Abraham fits perfectly in the role of a responsible son who narrates the story portraying his father as the hero
Anushka is good in her limited role.
Sachin Khedekar as the police inspector starts as a viscious corrupt man but change the heart appears as he relates to the struggle of the family.
DIRECTION
Mahesh Manjrekar’s direction is crisp without any loopholes. He makes a strong pass at the atrocities of the Indian courts where power and money over rules truth. He also shows the reality of the harassment that police subjects the normal people to under times of crises. Some scenes are so well shot that they can tear your heart apart which includes the scene at the park where Mr. Bachchan tries to laugh but ends up crying. The final scene is so strong that it is capable of making you shudder to death where the father sick of fighting a battle he knows he has lost goes to avenge his sons death. When he shoots the murderer of his son, he is not happy but a relief sweeps over him. The entire office lets him go and secretly celebrates his success (the Security guard comments that he wont be able to show his face to his son if he arrests )
The flaw in the judicial system is so vey highlighted
The script is edgy, narration crisp
