Visa

...country is a policy that would cost nothing: establish a new class of visa for startup founders. The biggest constraint on the number of new startups that get created in the US is not tax policy or employment law or even Sarbanes-Oxley. It's that we won't let the people who want to start them into the country. Letting just 10,000 startup founders into the country each year could have a visible effect on the economy. If we assume 4 people per startup, which is probably an overestimate, that's 2500 new companies. Each year. They wouldn't all grow as big as Google, but out of 2500 some would come close. By definition these 10,000 founders wouldn't be taking jobs from Americans: it could be part of the terms of the visa that they couldn't work for existing companies, only new ones they'd founded. In fact they'd cause there to be more jobs for Americans, because the companies they started would hire more employees as they grew. The tricky part might seem to be how one defined a startup. But that could be solved quite easily: let the market decide. Startup investors work hard to find the best startups. The government could not do better than to piggyback on their expertise, and use investment by recognized startup investors as the test of whether a company was a real startup. How would the government decide who's a startup investor? The same way they decide what counts as a university for student visas. We'll establish our own accreditation procedure. We know who one another...

Visa Mastercard

...USA V. VISA U.S.A. INC., VISA INTERNATIONAL CORP., AND MASTERCARD INTERNATIONAL INCORPORATED In 1998 USA filed a complaint against Visa and MasterCard re their dual governance and exclusionary rules of combinations and conspiracy in restraint of trade. (DOJ, 1998) Essay Plan My motivation for choosing the abovementioned case comes from my interest in the financial services market, its regulations and their implications on consumers. This case is attention-grabbing, not solely due to the remedy, but also due to the implications it has on domestic and international markets. It also gives the opportunity to analyse the controversy of vertical exclusionary restraints (Whinston, 2006). When analysing the Visa-MasterCard case, there are two main ‘economic-schools-of-thought’ to be considered. Chicago School(CS) dismisses vertical exclusionary contracts as an anti-competitive tool. While, Post-Chicago School(PCS) offers an opposing explanation by suggesting different models to rationalise anti-competitive behaviour using vertical restrictions. Both schools build their models under the assumption of first-mover advantage and the monopoly power of an incumbent firm. (Motta, 2004) Using the CS in this case, we could assume that Visa and MasterCard are the combined incumbent on the market, due to their cooperative actions. The banks are the buyers and AmericanExpress is the potential new entrant. It could be assumed that AmericanExpress is a new entrant for the market of issuing...

Initial Public Offering- Visa

...Initial Public Offering Paper: VISA Introduction An initial public offering takes place when a company issues common stock or shares to the public for the first time. There are several reasons for companies to go public, for example, small and young companies that seek capital to expand and large privately owned companies that want to become publicly traded. After a company lists its securities on a public exchange, the money collected from investors for the sale of the shares goes directly to the company. Once a company is listed, it is able to issue additional common shares via a secondary offering. Usually, these kinds of public offerings are made by companies wishing to refinance, or raise capital for growth. This ability to quickly raise large amounts of capital from the market is a key reason many companies seek to go public. Visa Inc. is a global payments technology company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It facilitates electronic funds transfers throughout the world. Visa does not issue cards, extend credit or set rates and fees for consumers; instead, Visa provides financial institutions with Visa-branded payment products that they then use to offer credit, debit, prepaid and cash-access programs to their customers. Commentary on Tims Visa Card

...Introduction On July 2nd 2014, CIBC, in partnership with Tim Hortons, launched the new “Double Double Visa Card”, which includes physical buttons built into the plastic. Cardholders can press one of two options on the face of the card – a button that accesses their Visa account or another that lets users redeem loyalty points for products at the company’s restaurants. In effect, the CIBC and Tim Hortons card allows users to earn points on purchases they charge to their no annual fee Visa card, collecting a cent on every dollar in “Tims Cash” rewards. While quite a bit of information has been written about the opportunities that this credit card will present CIBC in terms of growing their market share by securing this loyalty program, little has been written about the vast opportunities in market research that this card will offer Tim Hortons. As this paper will discuss, while Banks can grow their business and secure a large customer base by targeting popular retailers, the power that these retailers gain, by being given a reservoir of information about customer purchasing habits and behaviors, must not be overlooked. Moreover, as I will argue, this venture can change the entire marketing playing field as it gives a whole new meaning to data mining. Description of the Issue: The “Double Double Visa Card” is CIBC’s first step in an attempt to grow its business and credit card portfolio after loosing their...

H1B Visa System of Usa

...H-1B visa From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search |[pic] |This article may contain original research. (November 2009) | The H-1B is a non-immigrant visa in the United States under the Immigration and Nationality Act, section 101(a)(15)(H). It allows US employers to temporarily employ foreign workers in specialty occupations. If a foreign worker in H-1B status quits or is dismissed from the sponsoring employer, the worker must either apply for and be granted a change of status to another non-immigrant status, find another employer (subject to application for adjustment of status and/or change of visa), or leave the US. The regulations define a "specialty occupation" as requiring theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge in a field of human endeavor[1] including but not limited to biotechnology, chemistry, architecture, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, social sciences, medicine and health, education, law, accounting, business specialties, theology, and the arts, and requiring the attainment of a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent as a minimum [2] (with the exception of fashion models, who must be "of distinguished merit and ability").[3] Likewise, the foreign worker must possess at least a bachelor’s degree...

Consequences of the Changing Norms of Visas

...The proposed changes in the norms of the visas will cause a lot of stress in the indian it scenario specially where they are highly dependent on their visas. The companies having higher workforce under the category of H1-B visa will suffe the same, in this category unfortunately, most of Indian it companies will fall. The amount of the fee these companies will have to pay would be much higher. Any employer which have more than 50 employees and have more than 30% but less than 50% will fall under category H1B or L1. The employer needs to pay $5000 for employee who is an extra for either of the standard. The employer which has more than 50% of the employees with H1B or L1 will have to pay $10000 fee. This is going to effect companies like TCS, WIPRO and Infosys. But will be useful in case of IBM, Dell etc which are US based. The proposed reform to the H1B visa standards were under the Senate’s comprehensive bill. It has the potential to cast a profound impact on the outstanding industry.the US government has accused Indian it companies of using the visas unfairly to send the employees from india at a lower cost, which impacts job creation in US. Most IT companies have said this would impact margin by 20 to 30 basis points and they would counter it by increasing hiring in US. Also it clears the opportunity of the local US players to get sub contracting from the bigger players. The impact on the revenues of the big companies such as Cognizant, TCS will give birth to theneed...

Visas

...summer season 2013. The 1st of April saw many changes in the Croatian law and one of the most controversial was the introduction of travel visas for Russians. In fact the move to introduce travel visas for Russian citizens was forced on Croatia as part of the European Union regulations. Croatia is set to become a full member of the European Union on the 1st of July this year and therefore the EU visa regime has come into force. This means that all citizens for a host of non-EU countries require visas to visit the country. Tourists from Russia are not the only ones that will now require a visa, guests from the Ukraine and Turkey will now also need to take out the travel visa. Ironically tourists from these three countries have been on the rise in recent years, just last year the number of Russian tourists rose by 8 percent and in total they accounted for 1.6 million overnight stays. Russian citizens are required to apply for a visa with the Croatian Embassy in Moscow or through various tourist agencies that have been accredited by the embassy. The introduction of visas for Russian tourists decreased in the number of tourists as well as a drop in the number of Russian investments. It also played into the hands of Croatia’s neighbors, such as Montenegro, where no such visa regime is in force. Effects on my organization The introduction of visa regime for Russian tourists has brought losses, by the end of August up to 27 percent less visitors for our hotel capacities. Hotel in order...
