1. Introduction
a. When starting a business or organization, it is very important to have a basic foundation in order to determine the direction in which you want your organization to go. A person needs to know the businesses current position and possible avenues in which to peruse a specific course of action. As a person head of a company, you should ask yourself a few questions. What do we do? Who will we do it for? And how will we progress in the future? Having a Vision Statement is like having a picture of what you want your business to be in the future, it tells people “where you want to go”. Having a Mission Statement is like telling people what your purpose is; you want both the organization and the public to know why it is your organization exists. Last, a Strategy Statement is an effective way to achieving the overall goal of an organization(About.com). When effectively establishing these statements you have developed a foundation for your organization.
2. Statements
a. The Name of the organization I will be writing about is Ford Motor Company. Ford Motor Company is an American automaker and the world’s third largest automaker. I t was founded by Henry Ford and Incorporated on June 16, 1903. Ford became one of the most profitable companies in the world and survived through the great depression. The Ford Motor Company has been in continuous family control for over 100 years.
b. Ford’s Vision Statement in the early 1900’s was: “Democratize the automobile” (Ford.com). The Current Vision Statement is: “To become the world's leading Consumer Company for automotive products and services” (Ford.com). Ford’s Mission Statement is: “We are a global family with a proud heritage passionately committed to providing personal mobility for people around the world; we anticipate consumer need and deliver outstanding products and services that

...1 Introduction When you check out a company’s website, you will normally find their vision and mission statement posted in their About Us link. This is a statement of purpose determined by management based on an organization’s core values and beliefs that defines the organization’s identity and combines and ideal manifestation of its direction together with a tangible prescription for realizing its goals.1 This is mainly the statement for the overall company. Within different departments, some managers may have an additional vision statement for the department and the workers. At the supply and distribution company that I work for, I believe that there could be a vision, mission and strategy statement for each individual department, especially the Parcel-Packing department. The head department manager recently took on a change initiative to determine why the department was experiencing an overload of orders not being packed, when the flow of work had not changed. From observation, he took on the role of an interpreter in managing the change. In order to go about change, a vision had to be made. ...Setting a vision is critical for a change process to be successful. Generally speaking, a vision provides an organization with a sense of direction and purpose and provides a framework for the goals and mission of the organization. If it is well written, it should embrace the identified values of the organization, that is, what is the purpose of existence for the organization (Collins, 2001). Kotter (1996) tells us that there are three important purposes to a good vision. First, a good vision simplifies detailed decision-making. Second, assuming the right people are on the bus (Collins), then, even if initially difficult, a good vision will motivate people to taking the right actions. Lastly, Kotter states that a good vision will help to coordinate people more quickly and efficiently. Senge (1994) suggests that the vision be co-created so as to gain appreciation for the vision and to better understand each other’s perspectives and ideas. Collins stresses the fact that creating a vision should force the brutal facts to be faced. Facing facts helps create vision and leads to change. The authors, Kotter, Collins and Senge each offer ideas on how to create the vision and how to communicate it. Kotter, (1994) tells us that creation of the vision is an exercise of the heart and the mind, that it takes time, involves a group of people and is a challenge to do right.
