The purpose of this memo is to identify and suggest changes for the VLCD fact sheet to reach a college-aged audience.

This fact sheet needs changes to both its language and format of information in some areas in order to effectively reach its target audience of college-aged students.
Discussion
Beginning with the first paragraph, there is some language that could be modified to appeal to a college-aged audience. The title is simplistic to the point that it does not draw much attention or give a hint as of the benefits of a VLCD. A better title might be “This Diet Will (actually) Help You Lose Weight Fast. This title is longer; however, it describes what a VLCD is and entices the reader to learn more. Additionally, in the first paragraph, the word “patient” is accurate, however, it had a scientific and has a loaded undertone. If a college student were to read the words “people who need to lose weight” instead of “patients who are obese” then they will better understand what is being said and not worry about becoming a sick “patient” by talking to a doctor about starting a VLCD.…show more content… This sentence describes mathematical calculations with words and is ineffective in helping the reader understand what is being done. Instead, the formula would be more easily read and understood using numbers. At the end of paragraph five and in paragraph six there is information regarding whether different age groups (very young or old) should use a VLCD.
