...lightning cracks through the sky and soon it starts to pour. I think to myself how did this happen; one minute it’s nice out and the next it is like a bomb exploded in the sky. All of a sudden I feel like I am being watched. So I spin around to find a dark figure walking toward me with something shiny in his hand. I start running somewhere, anywhere but there. Down the road I decide to slow down, and I cautiously turn around to see how close he is; he is nowhere in sight. All I see through the foggy rain is an empty road with trees on the sides. Everything looks as if the world is about to end. I exhale in relief, and I turn back around to continue to walk. It wasn't long before I hit a dead end. Instead of turning back I walk straight through the woodland. Then it hits me like a brick. He came out of nowhere behind a tree. It was as if he had been following me the entire time and waiting for his chance to catch his prey; me. His eyes dark with anger and he looks tired from casing and then goes to grab me and secedes in doing so. I struggle to get out of his grasp and within a couple of minutes I get out of it and I fall to the ground. I stumble but get to my feet and just run; run somewhere to hide then everything goes...

...Natural Gas Paper Natural Gas Natural gas is a flammable gas that consists of methane and other hydrocarbons. This gas is found underground and is also used as fuel. Natural gas is produced when trapped gas is released above ground. That release creates unusual spouts of heat and fire. Scientists realized that under the ground lay an energy producing gas waiting to be extracted. Today when a company is looking for natural gas, they seek out a particular type of rock formation above ground. Tests are run that can measure sound waves and gravitational pulls in a particular area. If the tests appear promising, the drilling begins. Drilling only returns natural gas half of the time. In order to tap into the underground reserve, the drilling team must dig about 6000 feet into the ground. Once the gas is extracted from the ground it is sent to power plants and processing plants. It is then cleaned, separated and converted into fuel that is usable for homes and businesses. There are times that the gas is compressed, then transported to various rural areas where pipeline aren’t available. It is then placed in small metal tanks. The USA produces about a quarter of the earth’s natural gas. The five best sources for fossil fuel are Louisiana, Wyoming, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. Natural gas can be found in several other places within the Northern Hemisphere. Qatar is the world’s largest natural gas field. The Persian Gulf is the second largest. Natural gas impacts the quality...

...Lucas Corrao EN 1320 31-Mar-15 Unit Two, Assignment 3 “You cannot be disciplined in great things and undisciplined in small things. There is only one sort of discipline – perfect discipline” -General George S. Patton, Jr. This quote was drilled into my head while I was in basic training in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri I can still remember the first time I fired an M-16. The rush I felt firing that weapon was unlike anything I had ever experienced. Still to this day, the resounding crack and the simultaneous recoil from the round being propelled from the muzzle of that weapon sends chills throughout my body. Watching the plastic green target drop, from the force of the round and then the next target following suit was exhilarating. Shortly after a round feeding malfunction shifted my joyous mood to a feeling of dread. Fortunately, discipline and muscle memory allowed me to keep a calm head and fix the malfunction in time to fire a third round and hit my third target. This memory always stuck with me allowing me to become one of the best shooters in every company I was a part of the Army. As I walked up to the firing line that warm July morning, I could feel my stomach starting to knot up from the anxiety and nervousness that I was feeling. it was my first time firing an assault rifle and the fear of failing heavily on my mind. I had previously only fired a shotgun, but that is a weapon of point and shoot. Knowing that I wanted to do well, as to not get criticized for...

...1. How have you overcome failure and what did you learn from it? The road ahead was rocky and steep. With one last exhale, I placed my foot onto the pedal and was off. The hill seemed to get steeper the further I got; my once eager legs began to tire and I had to stop. Biking around my grandparent’s neighborhood without stopping is a family tradition. This seems fairly easy until you take into account the huge hill. Setting up my bike at the same starting point every time, I just couldn't make it up. That’s when I thought: Why was I starting at the bottom of the hill, arguable the most difficult part of the circle, when I could be going the other way? Immediately, I grabbed my bike and positioned it facing away from the hill. I feverishly...

...There is this vein that throbs in my upper thigh. I am well aware of it. I wish I could cut it like they do when they cut down dead boy’s body after he hanged himself before having orange juice or black coffee and eggs. Randomly I will remember things that caused me great pain: (1) like when my childhood neighbor and their kids decided to tell every parent they knew that my brother molested me. They told me that they had a right to warn other children. What about me? When are my feelings considered? Fading into the background became essential to survival and now I don’t know how to peel myself out of the backdrop. (2) the social worker who became my interrogator; I was not a victim, but a confession. Life becomes so sad when I become just...

...Emptiness Kyro, emptiness. Let it all go. Her heart wouldn't calm itself, her thoughts only focusing on what Evana claimed about their demons. 'Letting them free' she said. She suppressed a shudder, that seems to be creeping up on her constantly. " Kyro," someone calls. She doesn't open her eyes. " Don't try too hard, this is embedded in your soul. In one try you will become the master. Not me." it was Jaz. He was so nice, Kyro felt so insecure walking into the room, she felt she would shrink into a ball and die. Jaz coaxed her out of the small being she felt herself in and brought her to stand up tall and accept how she was a part of a bigger thing in life. She accepted his advice, and eased her tense shoulders, taking deep breaths, inhale, exhale. It was that easy. " Now, Kyro I want you to tell...

...annually; advocates for women in the industry; and, recognizes and encourages the contributions of women in the field.” So reads the mission statement on the NYWIFT website (www.nyfit.org). The fact that there is an entire organization dedicated to the success and inclusion of women in film, shows what a powerful movement is in motion. While learning about a woman’s role in filmmaking during this course, I have also learned that this is only a small portion of the movement that is appreciating women in film. During the first half of this semester, our class has examined several examples of women in film: The Women, Sense and Sensibility, Fried Green Tomatoes, Waiting to Exhale, Erin Brockovich, Calendar Girls, Little Women, and A League of Their Own. Most all of these films (with the exception of Waiting to Exhale) I have thoroughly enjoyed. They have not only enforced the fact that women deserve equality in all aspects of life, but most certainly do both behind and in front of the camera. Too often women are considered merely accessories their male counterparts, and these films hold a long history of females fighting for their right to be recognized for...

...rule and widely known rule to wipe down the equipment that was used, in this instance it is an unwritten rule and the area of use is the flat bench. A male JMU student in a red t-shirt was using dumbells on the flat bench, after a period of time using the equipment he finished he sets. Once finished he grabbed a white cleaning rag wipe and started to wipe down the flat bench that he used in a circular fashion starting from the top of the bench working his way to the bottom. Not only is this students cleaning of the equipment good for disinfecting any equipment that had germs but it also shows to others that he is finished with his equipment. As soon as the JMU student in the red shirt is finished cleaning, another male JMU student who was waiting for a flat bench from afar comes up and place his belonging next to the bench as if he has claimed it. While finishing up any workout, if you don’t pick up or re-rack the weights you used, you’ll be known as a lazy or a slob to the other gym members and won’t be well liked around the gym and it is also a major hazard and could seriously hurt someone. A male JMU just finished wiping down the flat bench he used, and then went on to pick up his 50 pound dumbbells that he used and placed them back on the dumbell rack where he got them from one dumbbell at a time. The male JMU student doing this followed the unwritten rule that is widely known to anyone who has been a frequent user of a gym to re-rack your weights once you are finished and...

...Personal Reflection Paper Personal Reflection Paper Invidious comparison is a harmful correlation that demonstration one’s individual view of others as indicated by another as per their class, race, sex, or religion. This is a negative practice to adapt to. I work daily trying to redirect my mind from comparing myself to others; it is human nature to have these thoughts. I have notice when I do compare myself to others I become sad because I have not reach the level of their success and the flip side to this is I never compare myself to anyone less fortunate than me. No one win at comparing themselves to others. The direction I have taken to stop invidious comparing myself to other are concentrating on my own beauty. I have created a habit in tell myself how beautiful I am every time I look in the mirror. I made a short and long term list to help me keep up with my progress. Watching my list advance keeps me center on and therefore, I can see my growth. These habits have helped me to appreciate who I am. I enjoy writing in my journal several days a week it helps to shift the atmosphere from comparing myself to other. A saying I like to quote is “doing unto others as you would have them do unto you”. To me, that quote is telling me to be kind to other people and help them. If this is done I won’t have time to compare myself to anyone. Last, I stay focus on the positive things I do in helping other and this help me to appreciate what is positive in me. The definition of vicarious...

...Mystic – someone who has undergone a transformation from which they emerge in the realized oneness of god, ourselves and all things. Although I am not God, I am not other than God either. That there is a oneness that wholly pervades the divisions and fragmentations of our lives, and the realization of this oneness the divisions and fragmentations loses their tyranny over our heart for we live in the intimate experience of the oneness that wholly pervades the divisions and fragmentations. And they live with a sense of joy and sense of freedom from fear, that fear has no foundations, a sense of peace in the midst of life as it is. Its not the peace that’s dependent on the outcome of our efforts to have the situation turn out the way we want it to. Rather it is a peace that invincibly pervades the whole process and the outcome itself regardless of the outcome. Mystics bear witness to this realized oneness with a sense of respect even reverence for life, for all things, manifested most concretely as love. As the Buddhists say, compassion is the body of emptiness, Aquinas, charity is the form of faith, that love is the shape of our faith, that faith configures itself as love. The mystic is hidden in the world as God is hidden in the world, but some are called upon to be mystic teachers, called upon to offer guidance and encouragement to us who feel interiorly called to this path of realized oneness. To be amazed and humbled that this applies to you, to be interiorly awakened...
