...ABSTRACT Since 2000 Indian aviation industry has been recording steady growth. The role of the private airline sector has become very significant with the increase in domestic air traffic and the increased purchasing power of the growing middle-class. The arrival of LCCs (Low Cost Carriers) revolutionised Indian aviation industry and air travel hit an all-time-high. As more and more players arrived at the aviation scene the competition grew. Heavy price-cuts and discount offers against a background of rising operational costs proved detrimental, with almost every airliner reporting huge losses. The industry, taking cue from the global developments had moved towards consolidation of stakes so as to scale down excess competition. Many mergers and acquisitions took place which may result in significant synergies in the industry. This strategy to tie-up with the competitor rather than bleed millions by way of losses is seen as an exemplary move towards healthy competition. The opportunities as well as the challenges these mergers bring to the aviation industry is to be seen. This is about the air-side of the coin. And the land-side development mainly based on the revenue generated by the airport authorities. The study mainly goes through the landside development constituting the study of public private partnership in development of the airport city. This report mainly consists of the study of the industrial sector and how the development is sustained. Organization selected for...

...the degree of Doctor of Philosophy August 2009 School of Social and Political Sciences Faculty of Arts The University of Melbourne Produced on archival quality paper ABSTRACT This thesis aims to examine how and why a continental-oriented China has shifted its maritime strategic orientation and naval force structure from its coast toward the far seas in an era of interdependent international system. Generally, China is an ancient continental land power with an incomplete oceanic awareness. With the transformation after the Cold War of China’s grand strategy from landward security to seaward security, maritime security interests have gradually become the most essential part of China’s strategic rationale. Undoubtedly, the quest for sea power and sea rights has become Beijing’s main maritime strategic issue. Given China’s escalating maritime politico-economic-military leverage in the Asia-Pacific region, its desire to become a leading sea power embodying global strategic thinking means that it must expand its maritime strategy by developing its navy and preparing for armed confrontation in terms of international relations realism. Conversely, Beijing’s maritime policy leads at the same time towards globalization, which involves multilateralism and strategic coexistence of a more pragmatic kind. This research analyses Chinese maritime strategy in the Asia-Pacific by asking: ‘Whither the Chinese maritime strategy in the ever changing Asia-Pacific security environment since...

...PART ONE • UNDERSTANDING SERVICES SERVICES IN THE MODERN ECONOMY As consumers, we use services every day. Turning on a light, watching TV, talking on the telephone, riding a bus, visiting the dentist, mailing a letter, getting a haircut, refueling a car, writing a check, or sending clothes to the cleaners are all examples of service consumption at the individual level. T h e institution at which you are studying is itself a c o m p l e x service organization. In addition to educational services, today's college facilities usually include libraries and cafeterias, counseling, a bookstore, placement offices, copy services, telecommunications, and even a bank. If you are enrolled at a residential university, campus services are also likely to include dormitories, health care, indoor and o u t d o o r athletic facilities, a theater, and perhaps a post office. Customers are not always happy with the quality and value of the services they receive. People complain a b o u t late deliveries, r u d e or i n c o m p e t e n t personnel, i n c o n v e n i e n t service h o u r s , p o o r p e r f o r m a n c e , and needlessly complicated p r o cedures.
