After a long phase of peace and self- government, the colonists started to obtain acts and taxes from Britain, their mother country, which decreased their freedom. Britain declared that the colonists will start to pay taxes in order to make up the money owed for the war. The colonists boycotted and peacefully protested against these acts, but because matters were only getting worse than being solved, this provoked the American Revolution to occur and violence to erupt. The colonists were justified in seeking independence from Britain. After they weren't even allowed to expand to the land the British obtained after the war, that they helped fight for, they had every right to refuse to pay taxes toward the British. In addition, the other acts made by Britain also signified unfair treatment.
The situation commenced when the Parliament, who create laws for Britain, created acts against the colonists. For example, the Quartering Act …show more content…
They say that Britain only fought the war for the colonists protection. This accusation is displayed in document 1 when Thomas Whatley states, “A War undertaken solely for their (the Americans’) Protection.” However, the colonists also fought in this war to help the British and in the end, they didn’t even benefit from it. Thus, the colonists had every right to protest against the unfair treatment and issue of taxes. To reiterate, they started off protesting calmly, but when matters weren’t getting better and rather only worse, violence began to become necessary. King George did nothing in his power to control this predicament nor fix it, and so the colonists went against him as well, characterized as “patriots”. After all, in document 9 it proclaims that he was “unfit to be the ruler.” And so, because he wasn’t any help, a revolution started and only ended with the colonists attempting to gain independence from Britain, which was a valid
