On July 21, 1979, a grisly string of murders began happening in Atlanta Georgia. It would end of with over 26 victims. Most were young or teenage children, but there were also young men also found murdered in similar ways. Strangulation or affixation was generally the cause of death. It held Atlanta in terror and made the national news.
Wayne Bertram Williams was born May 27, 1958 to two school teachers, in the Dixie Hills neighborhood of Atlanta Georgia. During the years of 1979 and 1982 many children went missing in this neighborhood that Williams had been reared in. Williams was a wannabe disc jockey.

The Atlanta Police Department, which—along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation—was investigating the string of killings, asked the FBI if the federal kidnapping statute had been violated.” On May 21, 1981 Atlanta officially asked the FBI for help in solving these murders. (FBI 2014). To this point, the bodies of the victims were found in wooded areas, but in April 1981, the killer changed his MO: The bodies were now being dumped in the Chattahoochee River. (Biography 2015) A big break come in the case on May 22, 1981, when an FBI agent, an Atlanta police officers and two cadets were on a stakeout under a bridge, they heard a loud splash. A car was driving off and the officers pulled Wayne Williams. (FBI 2014; Saferstein 2011). Williams was questioned and let go due to not having probable cause to hold him. (Saferstein 2011). Two days later the nude body of Nathaniel Carter washed up. The police took Williams in for questioning. After his alibi, didn’t hold up and he failed lie detector tests he was indicted on murder charges. Tests were run on fibers from Williams home and automobiles.
