We Are The 99 Percent Analysis

The American people seem to come up with slogans to express how they are feeling. During the Revolutionary war the phrase “Give me liberty or give me death” was the big one. During the Vietnam War, the phrase then was “bring ‘em home”. No matter the situation in America, the people will always come up with some catchy phrase or subtly offensive phrase, just to get their point across. In the world of today, it all comes down to money. How much you make all depends on not only the job, but the people you know within the job and how morale of a person you are. That is why the young people of today created the phrase “We are the 99 percent”. The phrase started small but quickly grew. It went from just a phrase to the slogan of a large campaign, …show more content…
Which surely started to happen. There is no doubt that with all this new popularity the slogan didn’t catch the attention of the “1 percent”. This is when they must have realized that it was becoming a huge deal to the community. The Democrats in Congress started to work on doing something about the “99 percent”. They actually started to be beneficial towards the “99 percent” when congress started to take action. Pushing many actions, such as a job. Although the democrats wanted to help the “99 percent” the Republican Party and called it “un-American”. The Republicans calling the campaign and its protesters “un-American” couldn’t have been any more “un-American”. The article does not touch on this as much as it should.
What the readers easily understand from Brian Stelter’s article “We Are the 99 Percent” Joins the Cultural and political Lexicon is the importance of the slogan “We are the 99 percent”. He easily explains the impact, feelings and diversity of the slogan. Although the slogan was tossed around in the media. And sometimes mocked by some of its users, it continued to have a strong impact. It was and still is a great slogan; one that will stay relevant throughout history such as “Give me liberty or give death” and “Bring ‘em

Operational Risk

...Operational Risk measurement This is defined as “the risk of loss resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, people and systems or from external events. This includes legal risk, but excludes strategic and reputation risk”.9 Such risks are likely to be significant in Islamic Banks due to specific contractual features and the general legal environment. Specific aspects that could raise operational risks in Islamic banks include the following: (1) The cancellation risks in non binding murabahah and istisnah[’a contracts. (2) Problems in internal control systems to detect and manage potential problems in operational processes and back office functions. (3) Technical risks of various sorts. (4) The potential difficulties in enforcing Islamic Finance contracts in a broader legal environment, (5) The risk of non-compliance with Shariah requirements that may impact on permissible income, (6) The need to maintain and manage commodity inventories often in illiquid markets, and (7) The potential costs and risks in monitoring equity type contracts and the associated Legal risks. In addition, increasing use structured finance transactions – specifically, Securitization of loans originated by banks to manage risks on the asset side – could47 Expose banks to additional legal risks. Western Pharmaceuticals a&B

...Western Pharmaceuticals (A&B) Case Analysis 4 February 1, 2015 Latrina L. Black Professor James Maddox Western Pharmaceuticals (A&B) 2 Background Western Pharmaceutical (A) was founded by George’s grandfather in Los Angeles. George, who is the CEO of the newly formed United Pharmaceuticals, decided to have Western Pharmaceuticals (A) merge with one of the largest over-the-counter cold remedy companies, Atlantic Medical. This merger was to help guarantee coast-to-coast market penetration for both Western’s upset stomach products and Atlantic’s cough syrups (Bowersox, Closs, Cooper, Bowersox, pg. 453). Western Pharmaceutical (B) is an extension of Western Pharmaceutical (A). It requires an inventory analysis focusing on determining inventory requirements. Although the firm wanted a comprehensive inventory analysis, the information available was limited due to the merger and a simultaneous move to an Enterprise Resource Planning system (Bowersox, Closs, Cooper, Bowersox, pg. 457). Issues Addressed 1. Multiply the demand quantity by the service level to estimate resulting sales as opposed to demand. This process will determine a weighted service level. Columns, AN, AO, and AM is the weighted sales for each DC product combined. The AQ column is the total quantity for sales in DC and column AR is the total quantity for the demand for DC. The average service percentage is shown in column AQ and AR. The service analysis by value Western Pharmaceuticals (A&B)...

Qualitative vs. Quantitative

...Quantitative Analysis When research is being conducted you must gather data. “Data are the facts and figures collected, analyzed, and summarized for presentation and interpretation” (Anderson, Sweeney & Williams, 2005, 5.) You must differentiate the type of data before you can analyze it. “There are basically two ways to go about an analysis, qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis” ("Difference between qualitative," 2011). “You can use both qualitative and quantitative reports to track the work performance of individuals, business units and your workforce as a whole” (Ciaran, John). Each type of data has its own advantages and many times analyzers use a combination of both types of data to make decisions. Qualitative and quantitative data are important to gather because they provide different outcomes. These are often used together when analyzing in order to get a full picture of a population. Qualitative data is either on the “nominal or ordinal scale of measurement and may be nonnumeric or numeric” (Anderson, Sweeney & Williams, 2005, 7.). This type of data focuses on interpreting raw data. This type of data is also known as “categorical” data. Qualitative data can be used to evaluate investments or other business opportunities. This type of data can also assist when it comes to decision making. Some believe qualitative analysis is “the foundation of a broad array of investment and financial decision-making methods” ("Qualitative analysis," 2010). ...

Occupy Wall Street

...Park, hundreds of protestors were evicted because they were protesting main issues such as social and economic inequality, greed, and corruption. The Occupy Wall Street slogan, “We are the 99%”, addresses the inequality income and wealth distribution in the U.S. between the wealthiest 1% and the rest of the population. The protesters have put their faith in the last seemingly credible force in the world: each other. The movement is really about the balance of give and take of Wall Street, how there are people who make things to add to the distribution of goods in America, who help America’s growth by keeping consumers money and resources in America, and there are takers who take from Wall Street and do not give anything in return and that is where there the problem is because they don’t provide anything to the benefit and progression of America’s financial status. Moral and economic implications of Occupy Wall Street Movement “Like a lot of the young protesters who have flocked to Occupy Wall Street, Joe had thought that hard work and education would bring, if not class mobility, at least a measure of security (indeed, a master’s degree can boost a New York City teacher’s salary by $10,000 or more). But the past decade of stagnant wages for the 99 percent and million-dollar bonuses for the 1 percent has awakened the kids of the middle class to a national nightmare: the dream that coaxed their parents to meet the demands of work, school, mortgage payments and tuition bills is...

Reynolds annual return over the 5 year period of 22.50% is also higher than Hasbro’s return of 14.21%. 2. Portfolio Risk Suppose Sharpe’s position had been 99 percent of equity funds invested in the S&P 500 and either one percent in Reynolds over one percent in Hasbro. Estimate the resulting portfolio position. How does each stock affect the variability of the equity investment? How does this relate to your answer in question 1 above? ...For example, height and weight are related; taller people tend to be heavier than shorter people. The relationship isn't perfect. People of the same height vary in weight, and you can easily think of two people you know where the shorter one is heavier than the taller one. Nonetheless, the average weight of people 5'5'' is less than the average weight of people 5'6'', and their average weight is less than that of people 5'7'', etc. Correlation can tell you just how much of the variation in peoples' weights is related to their heights. Although this correlation is fairly obvious your data may contain unsuspected correlations. You may also suspect there are correlations, but don't know which are the strongest. An intelligent correlation analysis can lead to a greater understanding of your data. Techniques in Determining Correlation There are several different correlation techniques. The Survey System's optional Statistics Module includes the most common type, called the Pearson or product-moment correlation. The module also includes a variation on this type called partial correlation. The latter is useful when you want to look at the relationship between two variables while removing the effect of one or two other variables. Like all statistical techniques, correlation is only appropriate for certain kinds of data. Correlation works for quantifiable data in which numbers are meaningful, usually quantities of some sort. It cannot be used for purely categorical data, such as gender...

Jobless Growth

...Discussion Paper 99 JOBLESS GROWTH IN INDIAN MANUFACTURING: A KALDORIAN APPROACH Michele Alessandrini* November 2009 Abstract Despite the remarkable economic performance in the last twenty-five years, India maintains a high discrepancy between the rate of growth of the economy and the rate of growth of employment. Labour elasticity to output has decreased over time and the capability of the Indian economy to generate employment seems to be limited. As a result, more than 60 percent of Indian workers are still employed in agriculture and 94 percent of total labour force can be found in the unregistered segment of the economy. This paper analyzes the jobless growth problem in India in terms of a Kaldorian framework where the linkages between agriculture and industry enter the labour demand through the changes in the terms of trade between the two sectors. Moreover, we investigate the role of the unorganized sector in influencing the growth of the registered employment. Using a dynamic panel dataset on registered manufacturing from the 15 major Indian states over the period 1980-2004, our System-GMM estimates show that states with a higher growth of demand for industrial goods originating from agriculture also exhibit a higher growth of employment. In addition, in those states where the weight of the unregistered manufacturing has risen over time, the jobless growth problem has worsened. Keywords: India, jobless growth, manufacturing, intersectoral terms...
