INTRODUCTION
Web 2.0 is the term given to describe a second generation of the World Wide Web that is focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online. In 2004, the economic hangover ended, and the World Wide Web began a new upturn. As more sober investors and more mature technology architects saw other ways to approach web business, things changed. Web 2.0 began, with a new second objective that went beyond broadcasting static brochures.
Other improved functionality of Web 2.0 includes open communication with an emphasis on Web-based communities of users, and more open sharing of information. Overtime Web 2.0 has been used more as a marketing term than a computer-science-based term. Now more than just neat animations and company profiles, the web is also a universal channel where people can access remote software right through a web browser.
Web 2.0 sites allow user to do more than just retrieve information. Instead of merely reading, a user is invited to comment on published articles, or create a user account or profile on the site, which may enable increased participation. By increasing emphasis on these already-extant capabilities, they encourage the user to rely more on their browser for user interface, application software and file storage facilities. This has been called “network as platform” computing.
Indeed, while the web also remains a venue for brochures and general information about the world, it is now also a medium for tools and computer services.
Major features of Web 2.0 include social networking sites, video or media sharing sites, self-publishing platforms, tagging and social bookmarking. Some of these services are free which are powered by advertising, while others cost subscription
