Web conferencing may be used as an umbrella term for various types of online collaborative services including web seminars ("webinars"), webcasts, and peer-level web meetings. It may also be used in a more narrow sense to refer only to the peer-level web meeting context, in an attempt to disambiguate it from the other types of collaborative sessions.[1] Terminology related to these technologies is inexact, and no generally agreed upon source or standards organization exists to provide an established usage reference.
In general, web conferencing is made possible by Internet technologies, particularly on TCP/IP connections. Services may allow real-timepoint-to-point communications as well as multicast communications from one sender to many receivers. It offers data streams of text-based messages, voice and video chat to be shared simultaneously, across geographically dispersed locations. Applications for web conferencing include meetings, training events, lectures, or presentations from a web-connected computer to other web-connected computers.
Web conferencing was designed as an upgraded audio bridge with pictures. It made it possible to share presentations with audio participants located around the globe, and its features, like recording and presenter video, make it great for dissemination of information from few to many. It can still be used for smaller meetings, but it really lacks the features that today’s savvy user has come to expect with collaboration tools.
Video conferencing, on the other hand, gives everyone a seat and a face at the meeting and is intentionally designed around collaboration. The best solutions focus on enabling communication in all of the different ways people meet—direct and meet-me, instant and scheduled, on any device and in multiple languages. Conference rooms and huddle rooms can be set up with video systems that can connect to other conference rooms and to remote users on laptops, tablets and smartphones. Participants can share their screens with the group and can dial in via an audio bridge if video isn’t convenient to them at that moment.
Simply put, if the meeting matters and collaboration is important, you’ll want the high-definition image and audio quality that only video conferencing can provide. Web conferencing works great for broadcasting a single speaker’s speech to a large audience, but if quality, reliability and dialogue are important to you, nothing beats video conferencing.
Traditionally, web conferencing has been used for traditional one-to-many communications like content sharing while video conferencing offers an engaging two-way, face-to-face interaction that resembles a real-time in person meeting. Web conferencing has historically been used when there is a large group to be addressed; events such as a training, town hall meetings and webinars. Web conferencing was also designed for individuals to join from their desktop. The options for participant interaction during a web conference is via chat, desktop sharing or a postage stamp sized video chat.
On the other hand, video conference participants can join from just about anywhere: a desktop or laptop, conference room video system, universities, home offices, mobile devices, the list goes on. Traditionally, video has been used for meetings between two different locations utilizing specialized video equipment at both locations. Blue Jeans video conferencing solution has moved beyond the boundaries of specialized conference rooms and into the mainstream offering connectivity to anyone with an internet connection and camera (or if you don't happen to have a camera handy you can even join via plain old audio!).
While the differences in these two platforms has historically been application based, today the difference between these two conferencing tools is blurring. Today, web conferencing applications are adding two-way video capabilities and video conferencing solutions are including the ability to share content and present in unison with the video. Today's worker doesn't want to have multiple tools for different meetings. A single tool that supports the needs of any meeting use case is in high demand.

During my research I reviewed three different Web Conferencing Software programs I believe will meet our criteria. In addition to price points, there are four areas of features and functionality that I will use to evaluate when choosing a web conferencing solution: 1. Ease of use 2. Browser-based technology 3. Cloud computing 4. Mobile access. The three programs are Fuze Meeting, GoToMeeting and WebEx. Of these three Fuze Meeting was the best fit for our company. Fuze Meeting makes it easy for users to get up to speed with the product and participate fully in meetings from the very first time they access it, without having to download any software. Fuze Meeting’s advanced integrated audio functionality gives users multiple ways to connect – toll, toll-free, Skype, and VoIP – as well as supporting international access in over 20 countries. The Fetch feature gives users a simple way to track down meeting invitees, meaning you may never again have to start a meeting late because a key participant is missing. Fuze Meeting up to date browser technology allows it to be compatible with IE, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome and Opera. ...

...Jane Doe EHR/120 Unit 8 Web Conferencing Assignment January 15, 2012 This is a 5 minute-long YouTube video script on how to train co-workers in guidelines for using web conferencing. This summary will account for the length of the video. It will include a plan for reducing background noise, visual distractions, and jerky movement. It will plan for appropriate distribution of the video. It will cover web conferencing and its uses along with good guidelines for web-conferencing. Web conferencing is a network based technology used for a variety of purposes. It is mainly used for training and meetings. For example, there are live web-based courses used to train students and employees in a workplace or school settings. It is said to have an “asynchronous supplement” in training. Because web conferencing is based to network technology the connection must be secure. Here are a few things one must be sure of before beginning web conferencing; equipment testing; proper connection; system access; and installation of special software. At the last minute, you wouldn’t want anything do go wrong. If all of these requirements are met, everything should go according to plan. After everything is in place for web conferencing, one must host an effective presentation. There are many helpful tips to make the presentation effective such as: large bold fonts; limiting text to 6-8 lines per page; using the right backgrounds; avoiding tedious animations; providing learning objectives...

...| Flex Technologies | Memo To: (Manager) From: Cory Beehler CC: Date: [ 12/2/2011 ] Re: Web Conferencing Programs Research Hello (Manager's name), This is the information I have found on the research project for Web Conferencing Programs. I have cited three different programs for web conferencing; Infinite, Cisco Webex, and FUZE Meeting. I believe the best choice would be Infinite. Infinite is highly adaptable as it runs across the major operating systems; Windows 7, Vista, XP, and Mac. The competitors Cisco Webex and FUZE meeting are limited on choices for operating systems. FUZE Meeting does not support Windows 7 and Cisco Webex does not support Windows 7 and Mac. If we need to upgrade our workstations from Windows XP Infinite would be the best choice. Regarding the features each conferencing program has Infinite can hold one-thousand attendees at once, file transfer to/from audience, leader-synchronization, and video/webcam integration. Cisco Webex and FUZE Meeting do not have any of these features and can only hold between 25-45 max number of attendees at once. An important issue I would like to bring to your attention about these programs is security features. I know we have been talking about application sharing being a priority for the meetings. I was checking out the security features of these three programs and found that Cisco Webex and FUZE Meeting do not have any security features for specific application sharing. This could be a huge issue...

...From: Michael S De La Fuente Subject: Web Conferencing Programs The purpose behind this memorandum is to instruct management concerning the different web conferencing available to our organization. Web conferencing is a social tool we can use to have long time social affairs with our counterparts. The organization will have the ability to bring our offsite get-togethers thru web conferencing. The program that we chose will save extra time and money while bringing offsite and the organzation together as one. There are five web conferencing programs that were researched, Cisco Webex, Fuze Meeting, Gotomeeting, Infinite Conferencing, and Intercall. As shown underneath in (Table 1) most essential characteristics are discussed. During the research it was found that, FuzeMeeting and CiscoWebEx would not be able to support our needs. FuzeMeeting doesn’t have the capabilities to support VOIP, video or webcam capabilities. CiscoWebEx was not capable of recording the meetings. While Gotomeeting and Infinite Conferencing have max number of individuals that can be on during web conferencing. The one program that meets all of the organizations needs is Intercall. Intercall has the availability to support 124 participants, VOIP, video or webcam capabilities, and recorded meetings. We can also develop with this venture and secure a splendid web conferencing mechanical assembly for future usage. ...Dakotah McQuay Corporate Memos Eng/221 4/1/13 Christine Brazanskas Date: 4/1/13 To: Christine Brazanskas From: Dakotah McQuay Subject: Web Conferencing Software This memo is used to determine the best type of Web Conferencing software to be used. I did some research on various types of software, (InfiniteConferencing, Intercall, ClickMeeting) and have found that the best for our company is InfiniteConferencing. The pros on this software far outweigh the cons. The InfiniteConferencing software is a fair price of $35 a month, and with a company growing as quickly as we are, I believe that this is the best web conferencing program for us. This software allows up to 1000 participants, instant pulling, one click publishing with Microsoft Office, Full Desktop or Specific applications sharing, easy control passing, allows you to invite members on the fly, full Microsoft Outlook integration, and fully customizable session settings ("Http://www.onlinemeetingsource.com/web-Conferencing-Reviews/infinite-Conferencing-Review/", 2013). InterCall and ClickMeeting had many good credentials as well, but weren’t best suited for our company. InterCall could not be hosted on a Mac, which is used by many of our employees. The price per month was $42 dollars and didn’t allow as many participants. ClickMeeting only ran about $10, but was not as user friendly and required knowledge of the software. The functionality and security did not score as high as the other two types...
