...Children's Online Privacy Protection Act which was set in place to hinder websites from collecting identifying information from children under the age of 13. This paper will examine the Act, the need to have such an Act and will also seek to identify any loopholes in the Act and possible solutions to address these loopholes.  I. Introduction       The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, and effective in 2000, applies to the collection of personal information from any child under the age of 13 on the internet. The Act dictates requirements in an online Privacy Policy, the requirements of seeking parental consent and how to go about it, and also includes operator responsibilities of protecting those under the age of 13 with regard to their privacy online.  II. Content    A . Purpose of the Act and a Brief History.              In today's age, many minors are comfortable using computers and the internet and recent studies show that 90% of children over the age of three use computers and almost 60% use the internet. Because they are so apt at using the equipment, they increasingly do not need to be int he company of an adult and can now go online at school, libraries, internet cafes, or at the home of a friend or relative. Minors under the age of 13 are a highly sought-after market for many companies and as such, are a highly marketed segment of the consumer population. Using websites designed to attract this audience, it was common practice to target these...

Right Or Faulty: What Is Wikipedia Valid?

...To see if an article on Wikipedia is valid, I would look to see the sources they list to see where they got their information. I would look for primary source documents and for trusted books or websites by historians who are experts in that field or educational organizations or universities. If the author of a Wikipedia page hasn’t listed many sources, or websites with .com, then I will not trust that article as much compared to one that lists many sources which include primary sources and valid secondary sources, such as books. People can contribute to Wikipedia relatively easily. The only requirement for posting an article is that you are a registered user. Wikipedia posts suggested guidelines that you should follow such as not using more than a couple sentences from other material. These guidelines aren’t enforced though. They are suggestions that Wikipedia has put up to make sure your articles aren’t plagiarizing work. Wikipedia also provides you with many tools for people to make well-written and educational articles. There is a flip-side to this creational freedom though. Because there is so much freedom and the extent of their enforcement are suggestions, it is very easy to post an article with stolen or faulty information....

Analyzing a Web Page

...believe that it can be a terrible idea. Some believe that it is easier to deal with troubles and concerns by them and that is not a good way of thinking because asking for help can help an individual. The web site that I have researched was the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (www.hhs.gov). I decided to use this website because it deals with many different people with various issues. The government has many different state funded programs and resources which are used to assist those in need. The government is very involved and people may not know that because they do not advertise and make the information aware of like they should. The government wants to make sure that all health option is available to all Americans in need. The purpose of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services web site is to protect the health of all Americans and to provide the essential human services to those who are able to help themselves. This web site is an official government page but it does not specify who is responsible for the information that is available on the page. The website is very accurate seeing that it is an official government website. Unlike Wikipedia, anyone cannot just post information on this...

Information Technology Acts Paper

...encourage teenagers and younger children to participate in gathering information via the Internet. Access to the web by children led to the enactment of laws such as the Children Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). These acts were implemented as a security method to aid in the protection of minors. Some websites containing nudity, online pornography, and other explicit content are banned from exploiting children. Children are viewed as easy victims to trick into providing private information or soliciting monetary compensation for obscene content. Because of this perception, additional laws are necessary to protect children when in comes to information technology. CIPA places restrictions on schools and libraries such as limiting the support of federal funding if certain requirements are not adhered. This act was signed by former President Bill Clinton in December 21, 2000. The design of CIPA is to protect children while using internet websites. Libraries and schools are required to implement filters that will eliminate or attempt to eliminate objectionable material from website possibly viewed by children (Children’s Internet Protections Act (CIPA) to Affect Libraries and the Online Community, 2001). Schools and libraries are eligible for discounts on purchasing...

Ethnical and Legal Issues

...answer to that would be "yes." As bloggers, we should all be held responsible for what we decide to discuss in our blogs and we should also have copyrights and guidelines to follow. Blogging has become a new wave of the future and I feel that it will be around for years to come. I feel that bloggers and journalist a like, all want to report opinions, ideas, and information that our society wants to see and hear. It is also important to have good ethical views when reporting the news through blogging. One would want to be sure they are using their own work and following all copyright laws. I wouldn't want someone stealing my work and quoting it as their own, so I would not want to do the same to someone else. The same with academic integrity, plagiarism is something that happens every day, whether intentional or not. I can see where bloggers would fall under the same belt. Internet ethics should not be any different than society's ethics in general. You want to be respected for your own work, not someone else's. Too many sites today offer websites to download free music or movies. This is not only illegal, but it is also taking money out of the pockets of the artists and producer’s themselves. Sure artist and the music industry are using the internet to its advantage, but we all are. I feel there should be guidelines for bloggers as well as others when reporting news information. If we...

...Website Migration – Tony’s Chips Website Migration – Tony’s Chips With Tony's Chips being purchased by the Acme Company, they would like a new change the way the website is used for the business. The old method was an externally hosted site with no online ordering options. The new website plan is for it to be redesigned to allow for online ordering, onsite web hosting, and site redundancy to allow for maximum uptime. What they are asking for is called the system development life cycle (SDLC). Systems development life cycle is defined as "activities and functions that systems developers typically perform, regardless of how those activities and services fit a particular methodology” (Shelly & Rosenblatt, 2011). The systems development life cycle contains the following steps in the model: required analysis, testing, implementation, documentation, deployment, and maintenance. Discuss what it will take to build a Web architecture, move an existing Website with minimal downtime, and provide a disaster recovery solution to ensure the site is always available. The new web architecture is a complete change from the previous implementation of the site causing an entirely new template and architecture. Previous setup used manual ordering, so they would have to call in or physically come in to order the chips. The new architecture will allow for online ordering that will free up more user time in answering phones taking orders. I am assuming the previous network architecture is...
