...The website that I have chosen to review is WiseBread. I chose this site mainly because it was available and no other students had picked it yet. After reviewing it, I would probably have picked this site anyway. It has a more real world approach than the “mainstream” financial websites and is geared towards personal applications. The home page is very inviting and has the right “hooks” to keep you looking. The screen shot below is a great example of this. Saving money, hot topics, and keeping in contact with you kids traveling are the main topics in today posts. These are items that most of us are facing right now and at least appeal to me versus reading stuffy post about investments that I am not doing anyway. The main focus of WiseBread is budgeting and living on a small income. As I was browsing through the site, I drilled down into the budgeting tab and focused on doing a “Spending Freeze”. While I have not yet done a spending freeze, I was able to use the tips to calculate the benefits that I would receive if I were able to do so. My family of 4 could save between $500 and $700 per month of discretional spending. Wow, I had no idea that much money was slipping through the cracks each month. That is a nice car, pool, or boat payment if I can reduce that unnecessary spending. The target market of WiseBread appears to be the 30 to 40 something’s that are living on a budget. It has connections to Facebook and many other social networks which allow for instant access...

...Websites should be of a simplistic design. This would allow the users who see the site to feel welcomed to use the site and be able to actually use the site. They should be able to discern this within a short time of first seeing the site. Mozilla’s website is one of the Best website designs currently out there. Mozilla’s site has many positives to its design. First off, just by looking at the home page, it is easily discerned that this is the Mozilla site. The bold title helps with this. There is minimal flashing or changing pictures, with only one news feed of pictures that change at a relatively slow rate. The information is spaced well, with plenty of white space to use as borders for each piece of information on the page. The amount of color is kept to a minimal; only use a new color for the most important things. This example can be seen with the download Firefox button being the only green on the page, beside green in the news feed. Source - Mozilla The amount of information on the home page is limited to only what is needed. While at first it seems like a lot, most of the important information is at the top and easily accessible to the users who just want to download Firefox. Information lower on the home page is design for easy access for users who want more advanced information about Mozilla, such as the operating system for the mobile web. Even the new feed of pictures is clear on what each picture represents. Source – Mozilla Navigation is simplistic as it...

...Mark Twain’s “The Art of Inhumation” I recently took the opportunity to review an advocacy website pertaining to the infamous Mark Twain and one of his many revered works entitled “The Art of Inhumation”. It was a welcomed opportunity as I have always enjoyed Twain’s writings and, although this particular work was largely unfamiliar to me, I was excited to explore this site to learn more. All of this build up of excitement turned to disappointment early on, however, as I found the site (http://essays.quotidiana.org/twain/art_of_inhumation/ ) less than desirable from a visual and graphical viewpoint. When I first took a look at this Twain site, I was immediately disturbed by the bad bordering that affected the look of the home page. The photo of Twain in the upper left corner of the page was nice, but it was probably the only feature that came across as acceptable to me during this initial first impression moment. The entire right side of the page shows a complete misuse of white space and leaves the page quite out of balance. The white space that is demonstrated on this site is not quite how one should utilize this element of design within a web page. Many times an experienced professional web designer will skew the balance of a page by placing the heavier weight on one side of a page but counter it by placing two or three smaller scale designs on the opposite side of the same page. This is definitely not one of those occasions as the balance is not even close to...

...check when easiest for them. For our company to use Yammer., a basic setup would cost the company around $115,500 per month and $1.386 Million per year. I give Yammer.com a score of 3. Jive Software As soon I log onto the Jive Software website I was instantly attracted to this site. The site is visually appealing, clean, and looks like a fun business tool. Jive would be used at my company for our internal social networking / file sharing site, and may be instrumental in connecting different departments in the pursuit of common tasks. Since our company has a low social media presence this could be a nice addition. Unlocking social achievements and activity rewards would probably make the site more fun. This software solves the business problem of reducing email clutter, better collaboration across departments, version control would allow us to pull up older iterations of a documentation with tagging for easier searching. For the package our company would need it would cost the company $126k per month and $1.512 million per year. SocialCast Socialcast is very user friendly, with a great user interface. ...Website Review and Summary: Black Lung Michelle Hampton HCS/457 January 30, 2012 Sally Kohls Website Review and Summary: Black Lung Pneumoconioses, also known as Black Lung is a group of interstitial lung diseases caused by the inhalation of certain dusts and lung tissue’s reaction to the dust (CDC, 2011). It has been noted that the cases of Black Lung are workplace related, and rarely environmental. Black Lung has been prevalent throughout hundreds of years; therefore, the material available for research or the curious person are abundant. Websites are available on all three levels of government—local, state, and national; however it is noted that the more survey and statistical websites are found in the national databases. The local websites depicted information that was more for the enlightenment, rather than the enforcement of rules and regulations. Websites that were based on newspapers such as the Register-Herald and the Courier-Journal described stories of coal miners now suffering from Black Lung and what they face to come. They told stories instead of statistics and were written to be more personable to the reader. Stories that tend to pull at your heart strings bring more attention than those that are full of facts and figures. This is the beginning of an overlay between the different levels of government. State websites combine education with enlightenment. They provide the statistics with the stories to educate. It allows them to show the...

...can make our own breakfast and so on. Wireless Internet and airconditioning are also a must. So we start our search for the holiday at the websites of different travel agencies. These websites are very easy to use, you can check several points in the sideline which you find important and then a couple of possible holiday options are shown. But once we thought that we found a good option, we always look on www.zoover.nl. This is a review site with information on the locations, appartments, resorts and near surroundings, all by other travelers who has been there. So, consumers’ reviews and their experience stories. From these reviews you are exposed to a lot of other information, than the formal information on the websites of the travel agencies who only wants to sell the holiday. Positive remarks are made, but also negative topics are discussed. So after reading the reviews you can make the decision yourself to choose for that particular appartment/holiday or look further for another appartment/place. For example when a appartment complex is very noisy and the Wi-Fi connection is very bad, this will only become clear after reading the reviews. Travel agencies are not going to put that on their website, because they only want to sell or maybe even not are fully aware of this particular circumstances. I’m then glad with this review, because I’m not going to...

...http://www.aasc.ucla.edu/ Summary of the information found on this site: The UCLA Asian American Studies Center was established to educate the international public about the intellectual, cultural, and political diversity of the Asian American and Pacific Islander. The Asian American Studies grew out of the social movements and civil struggles of the 1960’s and 1970’s. This organization has a number of helpful links for managers to access that address issues such as biases against diverse ethnic and immigrant communities of Asian American and Pacific Islander populations. I specifically liked the connection this information has that can be utilized for Asian community development. For example: 1. Fellowships and Scholarships 2. Service Learning and Internship Program 3. Student Leadership Development and Organizational Development I chose to elaborate on the Student Development and Organization Development, because these student organizations prepare students in leadership through campus and community issues, work on campus, and alumni groups. These organizations are good resources for companies who are looking for future talent with leadership and organizational skills. 2. Diversity Resources http://www.diversityresources.com/ Summary of the information found on this site: Diversity Resources publishes diversity and multicultural educational and training materials for organizations. ...1. Good Review – The good review I found was on goodreads.com for Life of Pi. The author of the review did not regurgitate the synopsis found on the back of the book nor laden the review with spoilers, but rather gave his/her opinion on the book, the narrative style, writing and structure and what was enjoyable about the book for him/her. 2. Bad Review – I found a bad review on amazon.com for The Girl on the Train. The reviewer, J.Regan, noted that the story was well written, that it keeps the reader’s attention but that the main character could be hard to like at times. There was no detail as to the writing style, nor why or how the author was able to keep reader’s attention. The reviewer also failed to explain why he/she did not like the main character at points in the book. With no further details, this review does not help someone interested in the book decide whether they may like it or not. 3. Fake Review – As I was looking for reviews on the book I’m reading for the critical review project, I Don’t Have a Thing to Wear: The Psychology of Your Closet, I found a title of a review that struck me as odd and the review itself was a bit over the top which to me comes off as fake. It was rated five stars and the review appears to be written by a girl’s boyfriend stating that “she can’t put it down” and “she just raves about it constantly” (Bouton, 2003). The one part that really puts me off about this review is that he says “and I wish I had a nickel for each time I've...

...To Pimp a Butterfly leaked just 24 hours before its official release date, March 15, and that most major music websites published their reviews of the album within three days of the leak. On such an immediate deadline for filing a feature-length album review, it’s nearly impossible for a young critic to stunt. At Jezebel, Clover Hope just wrote the truth. With bits of personal and political context interspersed, Hope framed her review as a first-take impression of the “overwhelming blackness” of an album about funk and self-destruction. “This initial feeling is suffocating,” Hope wrote. “It’s the essence of Dis Tew Much.” I think most fans and critics would agree that Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly is, indeed, overwhelming. I reviewed To Pimp a Butterfly in about 72 hours. In that narrow band of time, I "got" the album's messages and themes but couldn’t grasp the motivations for the album’s sound. Why, in. You’ll recall that To Pimp a Butterfly leaked just 24 hours before its official release date, March 15, and that most major music websites published their reviews of the album within three days of the leak.
