Evaluating Websites

...Evaluating Websites More and more people are using the internet every day. It is important to know whether a website is credible or not. There are many websites out there that give false information or they give information trying to sell a product or they want you to believe a certain way, so the information is one-sided. Anyone can set up a web page, so how do you know if what you are reading is credible or not? You ask yourself some questions about the webpage. You want to ask questions about five different things; accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency, and coverage. I decided to research the United States Health and Human Services website. This website is informational website designed to present facts, letting the public know about what services are offered and how to take advantage of them. With an informational website, the URL Address frequently ends in .edu or .gov, as many of these pages are sponsored by educational institutions or government agencies. Examples of these are: dictionaries, thesauri, directories, transportation schedules, calendars of events, statistical data, and other factual information such as reports, presentations of research, or information about a topic (Alexander, Tate, 1999). I asked myself the following questions about accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency, and coverage.. . Accuracy – how accurate is the information on the page? Ask yourself the following questions: Can you verity the information (sources), is...

Website Evaluation

...Evaluation of www.DHMO.org The website www.dhmo.org is very deceptive and biased in the information it provides. Using the five steps listed on the University of Berkeley website to evaluate this site, I will show that this site is trying to deceive people of the effects of Dihydrogen Monoxide (Evaluating Web Pages: Techniques to Apply & Questions to Ask, 2012). It is imperative in today’s age of technology that we do or due diligence and apply effective critical thing skills to verify our internet sources. The first thing I did was check the website’s URL. The site gives the appearance as being a nonprofit organization. The site is listed as Dihydrogen Monoxide Research Division. The page is not a personal page, and the name of the site correlates to the URL. So far the site would look legitimate to the average person. After taking a quick look around the page there is no background information about the organization. The only things we can learn from the site are that it is based in Newark, Delaware and is operated by Tom Way. There are no other credentials for the organization or the owner of the site. One would assume that this site is backed by the U.S. Environmental Assessment Center due to their logo being present near the top of the page. Although, after clicking the link it only redirects you to another DHMO page. Lastly, there is no way to contact the owner of the website. Next I looked for quality information. The links provided on the page give no...

Website Analysis

...Website Analysis Paper Website Analysis Paper I am going to evaluate the page layout, navigation, and performance based on my knowledge of www.worlds-worst-website.com, website that from my knowledge was designed to be a bad designed website. However I for this paper I will treat it as if it was a website to give facts or information about things on the internet or world. I well discuss what the website has as content, who was this content made for, the way it navigates, and how it can be improved. This website is really bad so my goal is to try to come up for a way this website is bearable. There are meaning things wrong with this website that make it bad. What is on www.worlds-worst-website.com? Well there are many links on this site that take you to different websites. Two of the links send you to same website just to two different pages of that site. One like seems to take you to a game that has something to do with Obama. One is just a video of cats. Then there are links on different dinosaurs and one link about bicycles. There is also a link that makes you take a quiz of a show. This sites content is well everywhere. There is no actual main content on this site. There is just random links to different sites and it makes the site more like a share link site if anything. I am also going to say that the websites it sends you to are better than this site; however I still do not think they are better or really look that impressive. The look really old and need to...

...Evaluating Website Credibility Introduction The internet is the primary source individuals use when researching information including, but not limited to, medical information. The goal is to review the credibility of a website using five key criteria which are accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency, and coverage (Colorado Community Colleges Online Library, 2015). For the purpose of the assignment, the website being evaluated by these five criteria is www.midwife.org which was found using the search engine Google that can be located by using the domain google.com. I chose this website because it provides accurate and up to date information in regards to the ever growing and evolving practice of midwifery both in the United States as well as other developed and underdeveloped countries. The full name of the website is the American College of Nurse-Midwives and the URL to locate this site is http://www.midwife.org/. There are many options for hosting the web site internally, including software choices to hardware architecture. This document will review the tasks that need to be performed, document the process of performing those tasks, and justify the software and hardware choices. Hosting Solutions There are a couple different alternative to how this web site is hosted. The company could host the web site with an external service that maintains their own servers and services. This method is commonly used by start-up businesses and web sites that do not require a huge amount of customization, monitoring, bandwidth, and storage. When a company wishes to have more control over their site and how it is hosted, they can chose to use a server service. With this kind of service, a company that owns a large server farm leases out one or more servers to the company.
